Why a full public enquiry is the real way forward
As the Portuguese Police have said on more than one occasion, there is never going to be a re-investigation of this case without 'new and credible evidence'.Cherry wrote:Because it is obvious they are being protected I dont think I personally would trust a review would be fair and just. I think the case needs to be re-opened.
Inquests determine how, when and where someone died. They are inquisitorial, not adversarial; they are designed to get to the truth.
Public enquiries, likewise, are inquisitorial.
What we need is a full and open public enquiry, in the U.K., with a wide remit, charged with the task of finding out how, when and where Madeleine disappeared. If such a public enquiry had the power to summon witnesses (as for example in the Potters Bar train crash, Bloody Sunday and 7/7 enquiries), it could get as close to the truth as we are likley to get, and the McCanns and their friends could all be cross-examined about what really happened. All their discrepancies, changes of stories and outright contradictions would be ruthlessly probed - in open court.

53,898 more signatures needed
The rate at which the McCanns petiton has been signed has increased in the past few days:Tony Bennett wrote:[The last 4 days statistics on the McCanns' petition are as follows:
28 Feb, total 45,338
1 Mar, total 45,585: 47 signatures added
2 Mar, total 45,634: 49 signatures added
3 Mar, total 45,672: 38 signatures added
4 Mar, total 45,713: 41 signatures added.
That makes an average of 43.75 signatures added per day, taking the last four days. If we take the current rate of striking of 43.75 signatures per day, which is below the 50-a-day estimate I used previously, this means that it would now take the McCanns another 1,241 days to reach their target. Their target of 100,000 would be achievable by 23 July 2014...
6 Mar, total 45,804: 72 signatures added
7 Mar, total 45,865: 62 signatures added
8 Mar, total 45,932: 67 signatures added
9 Mar, total 45,981: 49 signatures added
10 Mar, total 46,024: 43 signatures added
11 Mar, total 46,090: 66 signatures added.
That's an average of 60 a day over the past few days.
At this moment the total stands at 46,102.
They still need 53,898 signatures to reach their target of 100,000.
At the rate of 60 a day they will now reach their 100,000 target on 29 August 2013.

Removal
It appears that the McCanns have now removed a number of bogus signatures from the petition.

Sadly for the McCanns, the rate at which people are signing their petition has slipped a bit in the past month.Tony Bennett wrote:The rate at which the McCanns petiton has been signed has increased in the past few days:

Here's the figures for April so far:
1 Apr, total 47,104: 59 signatures added since 31 March (47,045)
2 Apr, total 47,150: 46 signatures added
3 Apr, total 47,185: 35 signatures added
4 Apr, total 47,234: 49 signatures added
5 Apr, total 47,287: 53 signatures added
6 Apr, total 47,346: 59 signatures added
7 Apr, total 47,397: 51 signatures added
8 Apr, total 47,425: 28 signatures added.
That's an average of exactly 47.5 a day over the past 8 days of April.
They still need 52,575 signatures to reach their target of 100,000.
At the rate of 47.7 a day they will now reach their 100,000 target after 1,107 more days, i.e. by 19 April 2014.
That is when they will be able to call for a debate in Parliament on their call for a review.

Re: FALSE NAMES ON THE MCCANNS' PETITION
Surely it would be quicker for them to ask the PJ to reopen the investigation?
Silence in court!
But isn't what they wanted from a 'review', er, to be able to see all those pesky little PJ files that show what else they've got on them?Get 'em Gonçalo wrote:Surely it would be quicker for them to ask the PJ to reopen the investigation?
What about if they joined in Mr Logoa's call for a full public enquiry in the U.K. by a judge who had the power to summon all relevant witnesses (including the ones intimidated by Brian Kennedy into silence?
Judge: Witness A, good morning.
Witness A: Good morning my Lord.
Judge: You are on oath. You have the protection of this Honourable Court. Please tell the Court exactly how Brian Kennedy's men intimidated you into silence.
Witness A: Er, well, I was...
Shout from Adam Tudor of Carter-Ruck in the back of the court: CUT! SILENCE IN COURT! LIBEL ALERT!

Re: FALSE NAMES ON THE MCCANNS' PETITION
I think that the Petition may just be a barometer of public opinion and another way of raising funds. How many times do they need to be told the only way to move forward is to return to Portugal, Re-open the case and answer the questions/do a reconstruction. They have asked Home Office for a Review and got nowhere.

1,229 folk who can now see the McCann-supporters for what they are
The 'Daily Mail' article on Saturday 16 April undoubtedly generated a great deal of interest in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.Tony Bennett wrote:The rate at which the McCanns petiton has been signed has increased in the past few days:
6 Mar, total 45,804: 72 signatures added

At the rate of 60 a day they will now reach their 100,000 target on 29 August 2013.
We are still dealing with the aftermath of thousands of hits on our website, book sales, membership enquiries and numerous offers to distribute '50 FACTS'.
The McCann petition for a 'review' of the case has also had a boost, the number of signatories being added have been as follows:
Apr 11, 47,547
Apr 12, 47,594 - 57 added
Apr 13, 47,657 - 61 added
Apr 14, 47,707 - 50 added
Apr 15, 47,780 - 73 added
Apr 16, 48,078 - 298 added
Apr 17, 48,225 - 147 added.
This temporary boost to their petition, coupled with further boosts as publicity about the new book soars, might man that they reach their target by, say, April or May 2013.
Our wesbite and the McCanns' petition aren't the only ones to benefit from the Mail's 2-page feature article.
Truth-hater Tony Winters runs an 'adult visitors only' blog filled with vitriol against those who dare to question in any way the McCanns' account of events in Portugal.
He has boasted of a huge boost in his stat counter:
710 hits = 16th April 2011
519 hits = 17th April 2011.
Good! So that'll be 1,229 folk who can now see the McCann-supporters for what they are: hate-filled obsessives, opposed to the truth coming out, with no better arguments and nothing better to do with their time that to hurl personal abuse in a futile attempt to counter the truth of leaflets such as contained in '50 FACTS'.

Re: FALSE NAMES ON THE MCCANNS' PETITION
I think that it is sad for Madeleine, not so much her parents, that no police force seem to be looking for her.
If the case was reviewed (who would do that?) and evidence was uncovered from that, then the portugese would have to reopen it wouldn't they?

Re: FALSE NAMES ON THE MCCANNS' PETITION
I'ts very sad that no police force is looking for Madeleine. If her parents had asked for the case to remain open then the police would still be looking for her and she may have been found by now. It makes you wonder why parents of a missing child would allow the case to be shelved really.
