McCanns delay Madeleine book launch

8:01am Monday 3rd January 2011

Kate and Gerry McCann have put back publication of their book about their daughter Madeleine's disappearance to avoid clashing with the royal wedding.
The couple's account of how the little girl vanished on a family holiday to Portugal in 2007 was due to hit the shops on April 28 2011, just before the fourth anniversary of her disappearance.
But publishers Transworld postponed the release date by a fortnight after it was announced that Prince William would marry Kate Middleton in Westminster Abbey in London on April 29.
The book, which is being written by the McCanns themselves and is simply entitled 'Madeleine', will now be published on May 12, the missing child's eighth birthday.
All proceeds from sales of the book will go to the McCanns' official fund to look for Madeleine, which had been in danger of running out in 2011.
McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: "The publication date for 'Madeleine' has now been moved on to May 12, 2011 in the light of the royal wedding and the subsequent media coverage that will generate.
"Kate and Gerry are very happy with the new date, as are the publishers, and it will still be very much tied into the fourth anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance."
Madeleine was nearly four when she vanished from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in the Algarve on May 3 2007 as her parents dined with friends nearby.
Despite a massive police investigation and huge publicity worldwide, she has not been found.
The official Portuguese inquiry into Madeleine's disappearance was formally shelved in July 2008, although private detectives employed by the McCanns have continued the search.

ETA My mistake, it was the 28th, I thought for some reason it was originally the 29th.

This is one of the most preposterous things one has heard since the last time they issued a statement. Mitchell is going to have to do better than this. It is a very poor move to announce that the ''scathing book'' is going to be delayed at all, without he blame it on a clash with a royal wedding.

The PJ are chomping at the bit to crack on with this case, so it may be that the McCanns never get around to seeing their ''scathing'' book in the bargain baskets of Tesco and Oddbins.

I can't believe how selfish Kate and William are to plan their wedding around the date of the McCanns book launch...don't they know they're now on the list of people who have disrupted the search for Maddie who's believed to be in a secret lair in a lawless village in PDL where the McCanns have never bothered to look?

Now that one has managed to compose oneself after all the merriment and mirth which the story has created in this household, one has noted that it is Transworld who are allegedly postponing the date, and not Mitchell.

Whilst one already finds it quite befuddling for the McCanns to bring out any book at any time, it does rather look as if they really do not expect her home anytime soon. It will be interesting to hear Amaral's comment on this delay.

This was Amaral's comment a week or so ago:

Gonçalo Amaral: “It’s being said that the book is an aid to find their daughter. As it will only be published towards the end of April, we can conclude that until then, their daughter won’t be found.”

Now, now...of course they can get married - but apparently they should have consulted with the McCanns first because now Maddie will have to wait a little bit longer to be rescued from her secret lair.

Kate and Gerry are happy with this, i am sure.

I imagine that Kate and William are much relieved with this also! Imagine having your big day pushed off the front pages by fresh cucial information from Rothley. I am sure Madeleine will not mind waiting a few more weeks in that secret lair before the revelations coming hot press to the attention of the nation and bring fourth her freedom, however i am sure the little girl would love the spectacle of the wedding so why not bring publication forward so she can enjoy it as well?

Headlines of the day?

Kate and Gerry give consent for Royal Wedding to proceed.

Clarence Mitchell gets desk diary for Christmas.

I think a lot of people are thinking the same thing today, when they get off the floor laughing. Oh dear oh dear.

I seem to recall a similar Royal Wedding that rather went on for weeks and weeks, before during and after, for years. Maybe a two week delay will just miss the Royal honeymoon, the Royal couple come home. With this in mind i am sure it would be prudent to delay publication until the poor girl is 16 maybe?

I wonder if Zara Phillips will learn from this and consult with the McCanns in case the book is further delayed because of her wedding?

Well well all these people getting married all over the place, Royal Wedding fever. Pictures of dresses, magazines full of the romance stuff, the nation rejoicing or cashing in and rejoicing, as Dave Cameron said it will cheer things up. The future King and Queen....the future!

Ideal circumstances for the launch of a tired old story, strike while the iron is hot Clarence and all that.

What rag is going to think 'Lets run with 71st anniversary of German troops advance upon Trondheim'? I suspect that with the papers getting less interested as the days go by they are going to be less interested by 29 April 2011, hardly a feel good story to go with the flow.

That couple never cease to amaze me.

Are they expecting an invite? One obviously can't attend a royal wedding - and launch a book on the same day.
Talking of book launches - will they be at my local Asda for a book signing session? We've had Peter Andre and Jordan.

Well with Jordan today in the press with talk of a new man perhaps the McCann's will be avoiding the next media event/wedding. Celebs will be falling over themselves to get a piece of the action in the weeks surrounding the other Royal event. I dare say a fair bit of competition, maybe Cheryl Cole, a bit of Elton and another baby, Simon Cowell getting married, bloody X factor?

A lot of publicity machines will be going into action with fresh piffle.

With the book launch....one day...there must be a round of interviews on TV all over the place. Daytime with Christine and mmmm lots of others i am sure, lots. Probably several.

Wouldn't surprise me to see them selling Kate and Gerry Mugs in their tacky online shop to commemorate their 'Big' Day.

Their arrogance is breath-taking.

Their arrogance certainly is breathtaking Autumn...almost to the point that they know most people realise this fairystory of theirs is a hoax and they're sticking two fingers up at us all regardless.

Hurry up kikoraton and get their 2011 off to the appropriate start.

And yet again they announce to the world, or at least those who case to listen, that Madeleine will not (or cannot) be found before the 4th anniversary.

Why does no journalist ask them what the hell is going on ?

Blood and cadaver alerts
dismissed by UK Government

Retired DCI Gonçalo Amaral: "The English can always present the conclusions to which they themselves arrived in 2007. Because they know, they have the evidence of what happened - they don't need to investigate anything. All this is now a mere 'show off'."

Retired murder DCI Colin Sutton: "I would also like to make the point that Operation Grange was so restricted from the start as to be destined to fail."

Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley made public on national TV that Operation Grange is a complete fraud.

Ex-DCI Andy Redwood had a "revelation moment" on BBC's Crimewatch on 14th October 2013 when he announced that Operation Grange had eliminated the Tanner sighting - which opened up the 'window of opportunity', in accordance with their remit, to allow the fake abduction to happen.

Despite "irrelevant behaviour" from blood and cadaver dogs in the McCann's apartment, on Kate McCann's clothes, and in the car they hired three weeks after Maddie disappeared, Ex-Chief Inspector, Ian Horrocks, said: "The thought that Kate and Gerry McCann had anything to do with the death of their daughter is frankly preposterous."

Gerry McCann called for example to be made of 'trolls'. SKY News reporter Martin Brunt doorstepped Brenda Leyland on 2 October 2014. She was then found dead in a Leicester hotel room. Brenda paid the price. She paid with her life.

Ex-Deputy Chief Constable, Jim Gamble QPM, congratulated SKY reporter, Martin Brunt, on twitter for doorstepping Brenda Leyland on behalf of Gerry McCann.
