I am sorry to raise this, but I thought that when quotation marks are used they are meant to state exactly, and to the letter, of what someone has actually said.

Surely the above is not an actual quotation from GM. If it is not an actual quotation, why is in quotation maBrks?

Quotes have come to mean - imagine the person actually saying what’s in the quote, or it’s as good as they actually said that, even though they didn’t. This has been the case for many years now. People do it all the time in face to face chats with air quotes. Mostly used where it’s clear it’s not an actual old fashioned quote.

It doesn't mean a person literally said this.

I’ve watched a couple of James English podcasts the last few days
One about the masons and the Police ( the guy called Gary’s got a book out about it)
and also a short one where Peter Faulding is getting interviewed

It's not a live case in Portugal so how can there be judicial secrecy.
