I was thinking that.  The EU wanted to do away with Monarchy for a start.

The media are not only dragging Andrew through the mud, they've gone way over the top with the Harry and Meghan coverage, that's blown all out of proportion.

@sharonl wrote:Where are the investigations into Epsteins other friends? Where are media reports?  Andrew befriended a paedophile after he had been exposed, he may slept with a number of woman but apart from being a womaniser, if he was, and befriending Epstein, where is the evidence that he has committed a crime?

If he was knowingly up to no good with an underage girl, would he be daft enough to stand there and pose for the evidence?  More so, does Roberts look like she's being forced into doing something against her will?  Or this this another case of smile for the camera in case you influence your abuser?

How old was Roberts really when that pic was taken?

It seems to me that Andrew is being named and shamed to draw attention away from the real abusers.  But, even if I'm wrong, I find Roberts claims very dubious, especially years later and after Epsteins' death.

Exactly Sharon - in a nutshell thumbsup .

It's a campaign to destroy the Royal family and part of Britain's heritage.

Epstein was a Yankee, Markle is a Yankee - she's the next nail in the Royal coffin.

If folk object to the existence of the Royal family then fair enough but don't resort to devious tactics to undermine our heritage.

Play fair and try to dismantle a centuries old institution with reasoned argument. Not by smutty gossip.

The German one?

The one where "Muttersprache" was the language of Buckingham Palace? (Google it).

The Royal Family is an abhorrence.

Andrew was going to be made an Admiral for his birthday!!!

He's deferred it now.

What an insult that would have been to people who actually serve in the Navy properly!!

Military ranks as birthday presents!

Prince Andrew did serve in the Royal Navy properly, as a flight pilot.

He also got his green beret in the Royal Marines.

Poor Andrew - Royal Marines service, Royal Navy service, prevented from being an Admiral, some slut whose moment(s) of fame would otherwise be "worth on age without a name" (can't remember the poet), Blue Bag as secretary of his fan club (not), niece-in-law MeSparkles, daughter's wedding a mere shadow of the Sooks of Essex... I think I would rather be boring me - and I even have some German DNA alongside the convict DNA from Essex!

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone ....

Interest in the opposite sex and infidelity are common place in society - it's not a sin.

Marriage between man/woman is slowly fading away. The average marriage/relationship lasts but five minutes - with or without children.

This is all about an alleged incident, no make that a direct accusation, of something that happened many years ago - why rake it all up now. Money perchance?

So what if he did have a dalliance with a youngster at an age referred to as a young woman when it suits, yet referred to as a child when it suits. So what if he did have a friendship with some millionaire who turned out to be a bad egg - it's the circles the rich and famous mingle with. This is nothing more than an exploitative witch hunt.

And I'm might glad I ain't one of them!

That lot in Buck palace are cuckoos in the nest of the centuries old institution. They have next to NOTHING to do with the true rightful descendants of centuries ago.
Within living history they anglicised their name to fool the public. That is dishonest of them and undeserving of respect. They are not high on my list of honourable people.

City watchdog investigates Barclays boss Jes Staley’s links with Jeffrey Epstein

Jes Staley said he had no contact whatsoever with Mr Epstein since taking up role of chief executive in December 2015
By Simon Foy 13 February 2020 • 9:03am

Barclays chief executive Jes Staley is under investigation by the City watchdog over his links to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison last August while awaiting trial on charges of sex-trafficking underage girls.

The bank said the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority had "commenced an investigation, which is ongoing, into Mr Staley's characterisation to [Barclays] of his relationship with Mr Epstein".

Barclays said: "Mr Staley developed a professional relationship with Mr Epstein.

"In the summer of 2019, in light of the renewed media interest in the relationship, Mr Staley volunteered and gave to certain executives, and the chairman, an explanation of his relationship with Mr Epstein.

"Mr Staley also confirmed to the board that he has had no contact whatsoever with Mr Epstein at any time since taking up his role as Barclays Group CEO in December 2015."

Mr Staley said he "deeply regrets" the relationship with Mr Epstein in hindsight.

The pair became friends while Mr Staley was a top executive at JPMorgan Chase. Over the course of their relationship, Mr Epstein referred dozens of clients to Mr Staley and the US bank.

The banking boss even visited Mr Epstein in his Florida office where he was serving some of his sentence following the 2008 conviction of soliciting underage prostitution, the New York Times reported.

The lender said it conducted a review with external lawyers and believes Mr Staley has been "sufficiently transparent with the company" regarding the relationship and has the "full confidence of the board".

The board will continue to co-operate fully with the regulatory investigation, the company said.

Mr Epstein was arrested on charges of sex trafficking of underage girls in July 2019. He died in prison in August by suspected suicide.

The revelation came as the bank reported a 25pc increase in pre-tax profits to £4.36bn for the year. Excluding legal and conduct costs, profit rose 9pc to £6.2bn, beating analyst estimates.

Analysts at RBC said the "reasonable" results would be "overshadowed by the FCA probe". Shares fell 2.9pc to 174.2p.

Barclays' annual report was also published, showing that Mr Staley took home a pay packet of £5.93m, up from £3.86m a year earlier.

Meanwhile the bank said that the manner in which the UK leaves the EU will have a "marked impact on general economic conditions in the UK and the EU".

It added that the UK's future relationship with the EU could take a number of years to resolve, leading to "a prolonged period of uncertainty, unstable economic conditions and market volatility".

Well, Epstein's dead and gone - so the fun and games begin.

It's so easy to control a situation when the star player is no longer around to give evidence.

I bet he's got a few skeletons dead and buried with him, never to see the light of day again.

Now why would that be?

He said in the TV interview that he was willing to cooperate with any investigation, yet now finds the need for an extradition lawyer!

Full Telegraph article below:

Prince Andrew hires General Pinochet's former lawyer as he fights FBI Epstein probe

Clare Montgomery QC, the leading expert on extradition law, whose clients have included Augusto Pinochet and Nirav Modi has been hired

By Victoria Ward 6 March 2020 • 9:00pm

The Duke of York has hired Britain’s most respected extradition lawyer to fend off an FBI inquiry into his friendship with the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, the Telegraph can reveal.

Prince Andrew is receiving legal advice from Clare Montgomery QC, the leading expert on extradition law, whose clients have included Augusto Pinochet, Chile’s former dictator and Nirav Modi, wanted for India’s biggest fraud. She has been described as “the most formidable member of the bar.”

Ms Montgomery is being briefed by Gary Bloxsome, a criminal defence solicitor who has defended British troops against war crime allegations and is understood to have been appointed directly by the Duke.

The powerful legal team was assembled by the Queen’s 60-year-old son following a demand by the FBI and US prosecutors to interview him about his relationship with Epstein.

Yet their identities have been shrouded in secrecy, with Buckingham Palace aides refusing to reveal who is acting for the Duke.
The disclosure that he is using such an eminent team of lawyers suggests the Duke is taking hugely seriously the threat of investigation by the FBI. It is understood to be the first time the Royal Family has needed to use such a powerful team of criminal lawyers.

Ms Montgomery, a senior barrister at Matrix Chambers, which was co-founded by Cherie Blair,  is thought to command fees of around £1,000 an hour.

Clare Montgomery has previously been instructed by Augusto Pinochet and Nirav Modi

She is also one of the most highly respected specialists in criminal and fraud law and is well known for her work on legally and factually complex cases.
Her clients have included Shrien Dewani, the newlywed charged and acquitted with murdering his new bride in South Africa. She also worked on behalf of the British government in the high profile case of British “superhacker” Gary McKinnon as he fought extradition to the US.

She prosecuted the Metropolitan Police when it stood trial under health and safety legislation for failures leading to the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, shot seven times in the head during a failed anti-terror operation.

An online profile of Mr Bloxsome reveals that he often receives instructions from “leading companies and ultra-high net worth individuals” in international jurisdictions as well as in the UK. He is also known for reputation and crisis management.

A partner at Blackfords, where he is co-head of the dispute resolution team, he shares a love of golf with the Duke.
One acquaintance said: “He’s as sharp as a blade, he’s absolutely brilliant.”video on www.youtube.com, or enable JavaScript if it is disabled in your browse
In January, US prosecutors took the unusual step of publicly accusing the Duke of ignoring their repeated attempts to contact him, publicly humiliating him and sparking a stand-off between the two camps.

Geoffrey Berman, the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York who is leading the investigation into Epstein’s co-conspirators, made what was deemed an unprecedented move when he announced that the Duke had provided  "zero cooperation" following the FBI’s requests for an interview.

In response, sources close to the Duke accused US prosecutors of “failing to play with a straight bat” and revealed that his lawyers were preparing to counter the claims.

A friend suggested he was “angry and bewildered" by the suggestion he had refused to cooperate, insisting he had not been approached.

But since then, there has been silence. Buckingham Palace has distanced itself from the ongoing crisis, avoiding repeated questions with the excuse that the Duke is no longer a working royal and as such, they did not represent him.

Having effectively washed their hands of the scandal, they would say only that the issue was being dealt with by the Duke's legal team, which they declined to identify.

Even David Boie, the lawyer representing Epstein victim Virginia Roberts Giuffre, has been kept in the dark, telling a Sunday newspaper: “This attempt to shroud everything in secrecy and hope somehow it will go away is I think misguided and ultimately counterproductive. This is not going to go away. This is not something that if you simply ignore it, people will lose interest in it.”

Sources have confirmed that the Duke has held regular meetings with his legal team about the Epstein case, which cost him his career as a working royal following a badly received interview with the BBC’s Newsnight.

Typically, US prosecutors intending to speak to a witness in Britain would go through the legal attaché at the US embassy in London.
But sources at the New York prosecutor's office confirmed they went directly to the Duke's lawyers, a decision that may have been prompted by a public statement he issued in the wake of the Newsnight interview, confirming he was "willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required".

As a result, it has been suggested that any contact may have been discounted as it had not come through official channels.

Ms Roberts Giuffre claims she was forced to sleep with the Duke three times, including once when she was trafficked to London by Epstein as a teenager in 2001.

The Duke has vehemently denied the claim and said he had no recollection of ever meeting her.

  • Cover-up means the billionaire's wealthy friends have so far avoided scrutiny
