According to sources, Trump cut his ties with Epstein, once Trump found that Epstein had assaulted an underage girl.

Bradley Edwards, a lawyer who represented Jefferey Epstein’s victims, stated in court documents that Trump had barred Epstein from his Mar-A-Lago estate “because Epstein sexually assaulted an underage girl at the club.”

Yes, thank you very much for that, @ sallypelt, I am sure that is correct.

What about Epstein's connections to Tony Blair and the Tony Blair Foundation?

I don't know anything about Epstein's connections to the Blairs, other than Tony and Cherrie Blair, and Laura Booth are in Epstein's "Black Book".  No doubt, something will come out, eventually.

However, I still believe that Trump knows more than he's letting on. Take this article, for example. Virginia Roberts was employed by Trump, prior to becoming a "sex slave" for Epstein.

Some voices claim Tony Blair’s best pal, Peter Mandelson, is a major player in the VIP paedophile network.

According to the Mail:

” Lord Mandelson yesterday maintained his silence over the extent of his contact with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The former Business Secretary did not respond to questions about why the convicted paedophile’s ‘little black book’ featured ten entries for him and his partner Reinaldo da Silva.

The online contacts book had 16 numbers for Prince Andrew and home numbers for politicians”.

There is an orchestrated effort to denigrate Donald Trump across the globe, more so in his homeland.

If the critics can find some dirt to dish, they will, be it true or false.

What exactly is Epstein's little black book - a list of contact numbers?  If so, I've got one of those!

Doesn't mean I jump into bed with them all  sick .

How the media love this salacious hype.

I don't think Trump is behind Epsteins death either. They never expected Trump to become President. Trump is NOT one of their people and a lot of sh*t hit the fan in Tel Aviv when he was elected. It was not a good day for them. Trump might be behind the move to bring Epstein back to face justice again after his ridiculous "sweetheart" conviction for sex trafficking a minor in 2008.  Trump certainly knew Epstein, but he knows everybody. Epstein was one of Trumps competition when they were both "property speculators" moving amongst the same social financial elite group.
Clintons do seem to have a long list of dead witnesses and associates. It certainly would not appear beyond them to silence another troublesome stoolpigeon. But we need to look behind the curtain to see this entire blackmail op for what it was. We know WHAT it was. We can have a good idea WHO it was by asking who BANKROLLED it? Who was controlling Jeffrey Epstein? Jeffrey Epstein did not bankroll it. Who was always there actually running things? This operation was too big, he was just the front man, earmarked for the position years ago. So, what tiny over represented country benefits from blackmailing World Leaders to get what they want? . . . .

Jeffrey Epstein: sex abuse allegations against billionaire socialite began in 2005

Many of them distanced themselves from him in the wake of his recent arrest on charges of sex trafficking, but they included politicians, socialites, royals and top business figures.

Donald Trump

Donald Trump has called Epstein a “terrific guy” and “a lot of fun to be with”. Epstein paid two visits to the president’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, in 1997 and 2000, posing for photos with Trump on both occasions. Epstein’s personal address book, leaked in 2009, contained 14 phone numbers for Trump and members of his staff, according to reports.

Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton has praised Epstein for his intellect and charitable work in magazine interviews. Flight logs have revealed the former US president took trips on Epstein’s private plane, reportedly nicknamed the “Lolita Express”. Clinton has denied any close relationship with Epstein, instead linking their contact to aid work in the developing world.

Prince Andrew

A longtime friend of Epstein, their relationship dated back to the early 1990s. The pair were reportedly seen partying together in St Tropez and Thailand. Buckingham Palace has issued outright denials of all allegations against the Duke of York for any improper behavior.

Alan Dershowitz

The Harvard Law professor emeritus, famous for defending celebrity clients such as OJ Simpson, has also been linked to Epstein.
Alan Dershowitz was reportedly identified as participating in Epstein’s sex ring by at least two of the women engaged in a 2007 case against Epstein, allegations he has dismissed as “unequivocally and completely false”.

Ghislaine Maxwell

Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of the late press baron Robert Maxwell, has never denied her friendship with Epstein. In documents filed by Virginia Giuffre’s lawyers, one accuser claimed in a deposition that Maxwell “recruited her under the guise of a legitimate assistant position, but asked her to perform sexual massages for Epstein”.

Leslie Wexner

The billionaire behind the Victoria’s Secret lingerie chain hired Epstein in 1991 to manage his money, giving him vast power over his investment and tax affairs. Epstein reportedly made more than $200m from the deal. But last week Leslie Wexner said the financier had “misappropriated” more than $46m of his personal fortune. “I am embarrassed that, like so many others, I was deceived by Mr Epstein,” he said in a letter to the Wexner Foundation trustees. “I know now that my trust in him was grossly misplaced and I deeply regret having ever crossed his path.”

Wouldn't someone who had died by being hanged have a contorted face? I have no knowledge of medicine, of course, but the images of Epstein being wheeled out show a calm person, who could be sleeping.

There are conflicting reports as to whether Epstein was placed on suicide watch following that incident. The New York Times reported that he had been under observation, but was taken off the watch more than a week before his death.
"How on earth is he not under special protection? What's really going on here? I think that's a question that we must get a full answer to," said Mr de Blasio.

In a letter to Attorney General William Barr, Republican Senator Ben Sasse said "heads must roll."
"The Department of Justice failed, and today Jeffrey Epstein's co-conspirators think they might have just gotten one last sweetheart deal," he said.
"Every single person in the Justice Department - From your Main Justice headquarters staff all the way to the night-shift jailer - knew that this man was a suicide risk, and that his dark secrets couldn't be allowed to die with him," he added.
The attorney general said there were "serious questions that must be answered". Mr Barr added that he was "appalled" by the news of Epstein's death and said the justice department had opened its own investigation.

Jeffrey Epstein: Questions raised over disgraced financier's death

Epstein was awaiting trial on sex trafficking and conspiracy charges

The FBI has opened a formal investigation into how US financier Jeffrey Epstein was able to apparently kill himself in prison while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

His body was discovered early on Saturday at a facility in New York.

Last month Epstein was found semi-conscious in his cell after an apparent suicide attempt.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said it "way too convenient" that Epstein could no longer incriminate others.

"What a lot of us want to know is, what did he know?" Mr de Blasio, who is also running for the Democratic presidential nomination, told reporters in Iowa.

"How many other millionaires and billionaires were part of the illegal activities that he was engaged in?

"Well, that information didn't die with Jeffrey Epstein. That needs to be investigated, too."

 • Profile: Disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein
 • Prince Andrew 'groped' woman, court files allege

Conspiracy theories started to emerge immediately following his death.

Epstein, 66, pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and conspiracy charges last month and was being held without bail.
His death came a day after hundreds of pages of court documents were released that revealed new allegations against him and some of his high-profile associates.

What were the circumstances of Epstein's death?

Epstein died shortly after being found unconscious early on Saturday at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City, considered one of the most secure in the country.

Last month, shortly after he was denied bail, Epstein was found in his cell with injuries to his neck and taken to hospital, in what prison officials had been investigating as a possible suicide attempt.

Epstein's body was taken to a hospital in Manhattan where he was pronounced dead

What reaction has there been from victims?

Elsewhere, Epstein's alleged victims have expressed disappointment that he will no longer stand trial. "I am extremely mad and hurt thinking he once again thought he was above us and took the easy way out," Jena-Lisa Jones said in a statement.
"I am angry Jeffrey Epstein won't have to face the survivors of his abuse in court," another alleged victim, Jennifer Araoz, told CNBC.

"We have to live with the scars of his actions for the rest of our lives."

A lawyer for some of the alleged victims, Lisa Bloom, said she would still seek compensation for them.

"We would have preferred he lived to face justice. Our civil cases can still proceed against his estate. Victims deserve to be made whole for the lifelong damage he caused," she wrote on Twitter.

"I've sat with my clients as they have cried and talked about how their lives were changed forever," she told MSNBC. "They deserve compensation."

US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Geoffrey Berman, said the news of Epstein's death was "disturbing".

"We are deeply aware of their potential to present yet another hurdle to giving Epstein's many victims their day in court," he said in a statement. "We remain committed to standing for you, and our investigation... remains ongoing."

What was he charged with?

Epstein was accused of paying girls under the age of 18 to perform sex acts at his Manhattan and Florida mansions between 2002 and 2005.

He was arrested on 6 July after landing in New Jersey on his private jet. He avoided similar charges in a controversial secret plea deal in 2008, and instead pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Epstein faced up to 45 years in jail

That plea deal was closely scrutinised in recent weeks and, last month, US Labor Secretary Alex Acosta resigned over his role in it.

Prosecutors also accused Epstein of paying large amounts of money to two potential witnesses ahead of his trial, which was scheduled to take place next year.

He faced up to 45 years in prison if convicted.

Who was Jeffrey Epstein?

New York-born Epstein worked as a teacher before moving into finance.

Prior to the criminal cases against him, he was best known for his wealth and high-profile connections.

He was often seen socialising with the rich and powerful, including President Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton and the UK's Prince Andrew.

In a 2002 profile in New York Magazine, Mr Trump referred to Epstein as a "terrific guy".

But he later said the pair fell out "12 or 15 years ago" and reiterated last month that he was "not a fan of Jeffrey Epstein".
Reports of Epstein's wealth vary, with his Virgin Islands-based firm generating no public records.

History of the allegations

2002: The earliest allegations of abuse covered by the recent case take place.

October 2002: Donald Trump tells New York magazine he has known Epstein for 15 years, and that he is a "terrific guy.... it is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side".

2005: One of Epstein's alleged victims, aged 14, reports him to the police in Palm Beach - sparking the first investigation.
May 2006: Epstein is charged with unlawful sex acts with a minor. Later in the year, the case is referred to the FBI.

2007: A plea deal is struck with Alex Acosta, the US attorney in Florida. Instead of facing federal sex-trafficking charges, he pleads guilty to two charges of soliciting prostitution, including with a minor.

June 2008: Epstein is sentenced to 13 months in prison - a private wing of a county jail. He is also allowed to leave for work - up to 12 hours a day, six days a week. He does, however, have to register as a sex offender.

April 2017: Alex Acosta is appointed labor secretary by now-President Donald Trump.

November 2018: The Miami Herald publishes its explosive investigation into Epstein, the plea deal, and the dozens of women alleging abuse.

July 2019: Epstein is arrested on new sex-trafficking charges, which he denied. Alex Acosta resigns.

How did the billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein get away with it?
The clue is in the question of course. He was operating in plain sight, in fact. If the allegations are correct, he was not hanging around school gates in a van waiting for his prey. No, he employed and presumably paid people to do it – every one of them witnesses if not accomplices in his activities. He had staff, assistants, associates who would travel the globe looking for young girls  – procuring then, as the chill phrase goes. This was done on an industrial scale – hundreds of them it is alleged, aged around 14 to 17 or so. It was hardly a secret to them. A few have come forward including one, Jennifer Aranzubía who says Epstein raped her when she was 15 years old, a horrific accusation. She says she was groomed by an adult female who approached her outside her New York high school.
Among those caught up in the allegations about aiding and abetting Epstein’s sexual exploration of under age girls is Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of the late and in turn disgraced media tycoon Robert Maxwell. Ghislaine is accused of helping Epstein young women for sex with him and various world figures and politicians. This is where Prince Andrew’s name comes in. The Queen’s second son denies categorically any impropriety with minors and, in fairness, all the allegations levelled against him were struck out by the court in 2015.
Now that Epstein is dead it may be that non disclosure agreements and other legal or other bonds of trust with him will rapidly dissolve. Although he himself has evaded justice, conveniently for some, the courts may release more details and the NDAs will no longer have any force. The tawdry, depressing depraved truth will soon be uncovered in a huge volume of revelations. Hundreds of women imply thousands of offences and scores of high profile names.
So Epstein was operating in plain sight in the sense that he deployed substantial protections to facilitate his fairly blatant activities – but then covered them up, and there are plenty of lawyers and others around him who helped him further victims and witnesses into silence.
Like Michael Jackson, Epstein could buy the best legal advice, and that matters. Money is powerful in that way, and there’s no use denying it. Only with a brilliant legal team could he have avoided a long if not life sentence for sex trafficking back in 2008. There doesn’t need to be anything corrupt about this to make it shameful – the authorities just didn’t want to fight such a powerful legal team as Epstein’s, and they knew he had powerful friends. Alexander Acosta, then US attorney in Florida, was one of those who approved the plea deal with Epstein. Acosta has now had to resign as Donald Trump’s labour secretary following criticism of his role in the earlier Epstein prosecution.
So much was Epstein operating in the open that he was often photographed with his influential friends and these remarkably young female companions, or otherwise at parties and the like. Witness the endlessly replayed footage of Epstein with a much younger Trump, partying away. Take Trump's praise of Epstein in a New York magazine profile back in 2002: “I’ve known Jeffrey for 15 years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”
Maybe like Trump, Epstein was just able to “grab em”, down at the Trump Mar-a-Lago resort. You surely recall what Trump said on the famous leaked recording? “When you are a star they’ll let you do anything.”
You might, though, have forgotten what Trump added in 2016 when it all came out about another guy in their circle, with a certain reputation, Bill Clinton, who “has said far worse to me on the golf course – not even close.”
Much more will come out in the next few days about these ageing playboys, frolicking in New York, Thailand and St Tropez. I, for one, would like to know much more about Prince Andrew and the incident involving his latex Spitting Image puppet, which as I recall featured a long string of pork sausages. I’d like to know more about Trump and the kind of fun they had. Also Clinton’s grips on Epstein’s plane, apparently known as the Lolita express. And professor Alan Dershowitz, celebrity lawyer, faced with allegations he dismissed as “unequivocally and completely false”. And, most curious because of her own back story and her gender, Maxwell, the woman usually said to be a “socialite”, which is a funny sort of life.
It was she who called one of the accusers, Virginia Giuffre, formerly Roberts, a liar and is now being sued for defamation by Giuffre. It is in those defamation papers that some of the Prince Andrew stuff lurks, including the 2015 claim that HRH slept with Giuffre three times and had an encounter with the Duke of York in a bath tub – apparently dried because the tub was “too small for a man of Prince Andrew’s size to enjoy a bath in let alone sex.” For her part, Maxwell’s spokesperson says “the allegations made against Ghislaine Maxwell are untrue” and “she strongly denies allegations of an unsavoury nature, which have appeared in the British press and elsewhere, and reserves her right to seek redress at the repetition of such old defamatory claims”.
Well, more broadly, we will see some of the truth about all this in the weeks ahead. Unlike the recent Carl Beech fantasies in the UK about a VIP sex ring, the Epstein affair has multiple claims, eye witnesses and corroborated material around it – a huge volume of documentation. This time, the victims will be heard and they deserve to be as they describe what they claim happened to them. Epstein won’t be around to hear them say it, but plenty of others, presidents, princes, professors, will be.
Even if none of them did anything remotely wrong, let alone illegal – and there is no reason to assume that they did – they might wonder what sort of a man Epstein really was, and how foolish they were to allow themselves to be associated with him.

WHO IS, OR WAS, JEFFREY EPSTEIN?

The 66-year-old was born in Brooklyn, New York City and grew up on Coney Island.

His father worked for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.

Epstein attended classes at Cooper Union, a private college, but dropped out in 1971.

He then went to the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University but left before he completed his degree.

He started his career in finance in 1976 as an options trader at Bear Stearns and became a limited partner in the firm in 1980.

Epstein then formed his own firm, J Epstein & Co in 1982. The firm changed its name to the Financial Trust Company and based itself in the US Virgin Islands for tax purposes.

The wealthy financier knew a lot of rich and powerful people including Prince Andrew, Donald Trump and Bill and Hillary Clinton.

His friendship with Prince Andrew dates back to the early 1990s and the pair were reportedly seen partying together in St Tropez and Thailand.

Buckingham Palace has issued a complete denial against any suggestions the Duke of York was involved in any improper behaviour.

Trump has referred to Epstein as a "terrific guy" and "a lot of fun to be with" in the past.

Epstein visited Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida on two occasions, in 1997 and 2000.

Bill Clinton had praised Epstein for his charitable work in interviews.

Flight logs have revealed the former US president also took a number of flights on a plane owned by Epstein.

Clinton has denied having a close relationship with Epstein, saying they knew each other through aid work in the developing w

What was Jeffrey Epstein's cause of death?

Jeffrey Epstein's death comes two weeks after he was placed on suicide watch after he was found nearly unconscious in his cell with injuries to his neck.

Law enforcement officials confirmed on August 10 he had taken his own life at Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan, which is where is had been held without bail pending trial on child sex-trafficking charges.

It is understood he hanged himself.

A stretcher carrying a man who looked like Epstein was wheeled out of the Manhattan Correctional Center around 7.30 am.

The ambulance went to New York Downtown Hospital, reports the New York Post.

What are the 2019 trafficking charges?

Epstein was arrested on July 6, 2019 on sex trafficking charges.

Court documents allege that at least 40 underage girls were brought to Epstein’s mansion for sexual encounters.

He was arrested at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey.

FBI agents are also said to have broken down the door to his Manhattan townhouse.

He pleaded not guilty to child sex trafficking charges in New York and could face 45 years in prison if found guilty.

On July 18, a federal judge said that the disgraced financier presented a "danger to the community" and must stay in one of New York's toughest prisons while he awaits a trial over the sex trafficking accusations.

The shamed financier was locked up amid fears he would flee the country.

He was caught with piles of cash and a fake Saudi passport in his £60million Manhattan mansion during the raid, prosecutors said in court on Monday.

Attorney Spencer Kuvin, who represents three of Epstein’s accusers, says he “sees lots of similarities” between the banker and shamed paedophile British TV star Jimmy Savile.

He told The Sun Online: “For many years Savile was a large benefactor and he gave to a lot of different charities and used his money to make it look like from the outside he was a good person and he was doing good things.

“Epstein was doing the same thing.

"He worked a lot with Bill Clinton’s foundation in Africa to assist people with Aids and other non-profit foundations.

"Like Mr Savile, Mr Epstein was using his wealth to try and make himself look good when the dark reality was he was abusing young girls for many years.

“So there is an interesting connection between the two.”

Kuvin says the three victims that he represents - including Jane Doe 1 who was the first to go to police in Palm Beach and spark the initial investigation - are still affected daily by the alleged abuse.

He said they were "angry and frustrated" that Epstein was handed such a short sentence in 2008.

Mr Kuvin said: "These women are still affected by what Mr Epstein did to them without a doubt.

"None of my clients want their names out there - it’s still a stain on their past history and they don’t want to have to relive this unless they absolutely know it’s going to make a difference.

"It affects them everyday it affects their relationships with men and husbands it affects everything abut their lives going forward.

“When you abuse a child it forever creates that scar on their persona.”

His friend Donald Trump is reported to have said of Epstein in 2002: "I've known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy. He's a lot of fun to be with.

"It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side,” according to New York magazine.

What was Jeffrey Epstein charged with in 2008?

In March 2005 a woman contacted the Palm Beach Police Department in Florida and alleged her 14-year-old stepdaughter had been taken to Epstein’s mansion by an older girl.

There she was said to have been paid$300 to strip and massage Epstein.

The cops began an undercover investigation and also searched his home. The FBI also became involved in the case.

During the investigation they interviewed five of the alleged victims and found that some of the girls had been under 18.

Papers filed in 2006 were also said to contain allegations Epstein had installed concealed cameras on his property to record sexual activity with underage girls by prominent people as a possible means of blackmail.

A plea deal was eventually agreed and Epstein pleaded guilty to state prostitution charges, register as a sex offender and pay restitution to three dozen victims identified by the FBI.

He pleaded guilty in June 2008 to a single charge of soliciting prostitution from girls as young as 14.

What's Jeffrey Epstein's 'paedo island'?

Epstein's private Caribbean island has become the centre of a sex trafficking probe against him, amid claims underage girls were used as sex slaves and repeatedly abused inside a temple.

The billionaire bought the island of Little St James more than two decades ago - transforming it into a high-security private oasis, complete with a mansion and a bizarre blue and white gold-domed structure.

To date, the island has remained Epstein’s main residence, but has been shrouded in mystery.

It's high security, secluded location and locally-known moniker as "Pedophile Island" has given rise to more sinister theories about its use.

Neighbouring islander Kevin Goodrich, who operates boat charters from nearby St Thomas, said: “Everybody called it ‘Paedophile Island' ... It’s our dark corner.”

Epstein set about building an enormous stone mansion with cream-coloured walls and a bright turquoise roof surrounded by a maids’ quarters.

Years later, and on the other southwest edge of the island, he built a square-shaped blue and white building resembling a religious temple, topped with a gold dome.

Many have speculated that the child sex abuse Epstein has been accused of may have occurred in this secluded space.

Jeffrey Epstein: How conspiracy theories spread after financier's death

Jeffrey Epstein, pictured here in 2004, was found dead in his jail cell on Saturday aged 66

Just hours after the high-profile financier Jeffrey Epstein was found dead on Saturday, unsubstantiated theories about his death began to gain traction online.

Epstein, who was set to stand trial on sex trafficking and conspiracy charges, killed himself in his jail cell in New York. He was accused of running a "vast network" of underage girls for sex, and pleaded not guilty to the charges last month.

The 66-year-old was known to court famous friends and acquaintances. President Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton, and the UK's Prince Andrew all had ties to him. Some of his powerful associates have been embroiled in the allegations against him, which has only served to fuel the conspiracy theories and misinformation.

Many rumours have centred on what politicians may have known about Epstein's alleged crimes and whether some may have wanted him dead. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest this was the case. And yet, the hashtag [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] trended worldwide on Saturday.

Joke images and memes - suggesting everything from a faked suicide to an orchestrated hit-job - were shared thousands of times throughout the day. Facebook, Twitter and YouTube were rife with unfounded theories about what may have happened to the financier.

This wild speculation was not confined to a fringe minority - far from it. Politicians and high-profile journalists also stoked rampant speculation at a time when little information was publicly available. MSNBC host Joe Scarborough tweeted:

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said it was "way too convenient" that Epstein could no longer incriminate others.

"What a lot of us want to know is, what did he know?" he told reporters. "How many other millionaires and billionaires were part of the illegal activities that he was engaged in?"

Questions like these alluded, without evidence, to a malevolent conspiracy and fed the feverish speculation on social media.
Further rumours centred on how a man who was found semi-conscious and with injuries to his neck just weeks earlier was able to take his own life. Initial reports said Epstein was placed on suicide watch after that incident in July, which led many people to ask how he could have died while being so closely monitored.

"What does the word watch mean in the phrase suicide watch?" tweeted President Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giulani. "Who was watching?" He then said it was "inconceivable" Epstein could have taken his own life under those circumstances.

But prison officials later said Epstein had actually been taken off suicide watch prior to his death. Conspiracy theories then began to focus on why this decision was made.

The speculation, as was the case throughout Saturday, appeared to shift and change with the few concrete details that were released.

Perhaps the most far-fetched conspiracy theories were pegged to the hashtags [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], which both trended on Twitter.

The former was primarily used by conservatives to suggest that former "first couple" Bill and Hillary Clinton were linked to Epstein's death. The latter, perhaps predictably, was used by liberals who speculated that Mr Trump was somehow involved.

Neither side had any evidence to work with.

The unfounded theory of the Clinton's involvement harks back to a long-running, debunked, conspiracy that originated in the 1990s and claims the couple secretly kill their enemies.

"There is no evidence whatsoever to suggest an outside person ordered Epstein's death, and certainly no evidence whatsoever that Bill Clinton was that person," Dylan Matthews wrote in Vox.

"[Mr Clinton] knows nothing about the terrible crimes Jeffrey Epstein pleaded guilty to in Florida some years ago, or those with which he has been recently charged in New York," his spokesman, Angel Ureña, said.

But Mr Trump was quick to pour fuel on the flames. He shared a tweet from Terrence Williams, a comedian and Trump supporter, that alleged Epstein "had information on Bill Clinton & now he's dead". There is no evidence to support this, but the tweet has since been shared more than 55,000 times.

Other theories and tidbits of misinformation have been easier to disprove.

For example, a photo that appeared to show Mr Trump kissing the head of his daughter, Ivanka, while standing next to Epstein has been exposed as a fake. "The 1993 photograph... been manipulated to include Epstein," the Associated Press reported last month.

Similarly, after Epstein's arrest on 6 July, some social media users shared a false claim that prosecutors had struck a secret plea deal with the financier under the administration of President Barack Obama in order to protect his fellow Democrat Mr Clinton. That theory resurfaced on Saturday.

But the deal, which allowed Epstein to plead guilty to lesser charges, was actually finalised before Mr Obama took office under the administration of President George W, Bush. Labour Secretary Alex Acosta resigned over his role in the deal last month.
Some politicians and journalists have urged people to exercise caution given the sheer quantity of misinformation online.

"The immediate rush to spread conspiracy theories about someone on the 'other side' of [the] partisan divide illustrates why our society is so vulnerable to foreign disinformation," tweeted Republican Senator Marco Rubio.

CNN presenter Jim Sciutto, reflecting on his time working in the Middle East, said: "Remember this is about... partisan politics. When I was [there]... folks didn't trust authorities so assumed a plot behind every event."

Yes Peter.

I think we should let politicians and the main stream media tell us what happened.

They are telling us he killed himself, in a room with no hooks and no rope !
Maybe he is not dead after all. They need to know what his kill switch will do . My bet is he is being terribly interrogated in some stinking hellhole. He knows too much not to have a nuclear level  kill switch. They need to know what the fallout will be.

Some people on twitter also don't think he's dead and they've posted these pics to show the differences in his nose and ear.

Although his eyebrows and hairline are the same.

Has it been officially confirmed that he hanged himself?

There are other ways, e.g. overdose.
