Profligate Charities

Post by Jill Havern on 05.10.18 11:19

Following the disasters in Indonesia we now have another Charity of which many people may not be aware.
Disasters Emergency Committee
www.dec.org.uk

"DEC only appeal when we know we can help. We bring together 14 leading UK aid charities in times of crisis. Since our launch in 1963, we have run 70 appeals ... "

So they are a Charity set up to co-ordinate 14 other Charities.
The list is on their website

  • ActionAid UK
  • Age International
  • British Red Cross
  • CARE International UK
  • CAFOD
  • Christian Aid
  • Concern Worldwide
  • Islamic Relief Worldwide
  • Merlin
  • Oxfam GB
  • Plan International UK
  • Save the Children
  • Tearfund
  • World Vision UK

In 2014 the Telegraph had a look at them all
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/10223961/Revealed-who-is-getting-the-most-money-at-Britains-biggest-aid-charities.html

and published the Salaries of the CEOs in 2013

DEC £ 90,460
Red Cross  £ 184,000
Oxfam £ 119,560
Save the children

£
163,000
Christian Aid  £ 126,000
Tearfund  £ 92,000
Action Aid  £ 88,933
Age International

£
90,000
CAFOD £ 87567
Care International

£
110,000
Concern Worldwide£ 70,000
Islamic relief  £ 50,000. (estimated - they say no one more than 60,000)
Merlin £ 110,000
World Vision  £ 96,000

The then head of Islamic relief is now CEO of DEC, so he has had a 50+% payrise

The total for the CEOs in salary alone is £ 1,447,520

DEC is currently asking us all to donate £ 5.
The first 295,504 people who do so will be paying the salaries of the CEOs
The next will pay for the pensions,  payroll, premises, promotions, and parties, the 5 'P's of Charity.

Missing People didn't get a mention, nor did PACT !
