MADDIE TENNIS TWIST Gerry McCann played tennis with ‘Tannerman’ on the day Madeleine went missing
THE dad of Madeleine McCann played tennis with a man wrongly identified as her abductor on the day she went missing.
Witness Jane Tanner spent up to half an hour watching Gerry McCann and Dr Julian Totman, 46, play on May 3, 2007.

Less than three hours later, she saw a man carrying a child in pyjamas near the McCanns’ apartment in Praia da Luz.
But she did not recognise Dr Totman and cops pursued the lead for four years, despite the GP saying it was probably him.
But retired Met detective Ian Horrocks still believes Ms Tanner saw the abductor.
He said: “It would appear that Julian Totman was known by sight to Jane Tanner.

"Therefore, is it credible that she would not have recognised him?”
The startling revelation comes a day after what would have been Madeleine's 15th birthday.
Kate McCann was reported to have left presents in the missing girl's bedroom on the eve of her birthday in the hope that she would be back to open them one day.
The brave mum, who says “hope and perseverance remain”, has been carefully choosing gifts to reflect the teen's age.
She placed them, along with cards and messages of support, in Maddie's pretty pink bedroom which remains unchanged since she vanished during a family holiday in Portugal 11 years ago.

Kate, 50, previously said: “I do all the present buying. I think about what age she is and buy something that, whenever we find her, will still be appropriate so there’s a lot of thought goes into it.”
She referred to the birthday of her eldest child as a "difficult time because that’s when you really feel her absence.”

Maddie was kidnapped after being left sleeping alone with her twin siblings at their holiday apartment in the Algarve’s Praia da Luz.
At the time her parents were dining with pals at a nearby resort tapas restaurant.
She was discovered missing from her bed in the rented flat by her horrified mum shortly after 10pm.

I'm very confused about this story about Totman, which has now appeared on the Mail website. Who alleged that he was Tannerman/Crecheman, who saw whom, who said what
To give my brain a rest, I'm giving up trying to understand, as I don't believe there was an abductor anyway.

Re: MADDIE TENNIS TWIST Gerry McCann played tennis with ‘Tannerman’ on the day Madeleine went missing
The Sun seems to be attempting to cast doubt on the solution of the Tannerman mystery, stressing how Jane had spent up to half an hour watching Totman play tennis with Gerry and then somehow failed to recognise him a mere 3 hours later. It would appear that not everyone is happy at the death of Tannerman as the suspected abductor and there are pathetic attempts to resurrect him. Totman has put a fly in the abduction ointment. Even if he was not Tannerman, given that he was walking in the very place of the sighting at the exact time, then logically, he too should have spotted the "abductor".
With Tannerman dead in the water there is no abductor and no abduction. There is also no alibi for Gerry "at the moment Madeleine was taken". Oh dear!

Re: MADDIE TENNIS TWIST Gerry McCann played tennis with ‘Tannerman’ on the day Madeleine went missing
"Please Sir ...... can I 'ave some more?"
The odds are stacked against Jane Tanner recognizing a fellow tennis player when out of his sports gear, on a dark night, in the distance, walking swiftly, carrying a horizontal semi-clad child, only to be seen for a few seconds.
Above all else, he wasn't dressed like a tourist, which one would expect a tourist to be. Anymore than it can be believed that the stranger allegedly seen by the Smith family would be Gerry McCann not looking like a tourist.
What a load of tripe! Still, it achieves the desired effect - gets the populace all frothed-up over nothing. This practical joke has being going on since April/May 2007 yet still it commands unparalleled interest - works every time .

Ok. Jane described a man she said she had seen carrying a child at 9.15 pm, he became known as Tannerman.
The Portuguese police were not convinced about this sighting, instead they wished to focus on a man seen by the Smith family at 9.50 pm.
The McCanns, however, promoted Tannerman as their main suspect on their website, asking for any information about him.
When Scotland Yard got involved, they said they had spoken to, and discounted Tannerman as a suspect. They had identified him as a father carrying his own daughter home from the creche.
The McCanns continued to show Jane's drawing of Tannerman on their website.
Within the last week the newspapers have named the father carrying his child from the creche as Dr Totman.
He said, incorrectly, that he believed the Portuguese police had been looking for Tannerman for four years, despite him telling them that he believed himself to be Tannerman.
Meanwhile, the McCanns continued to show the picture of Tannerman as their main suspect.
Today, the newspapers are questioning whether Dr Totman could possibly be Tannerman after all, on the grounds that Jane was watching McCann and Totman play tennis on the evening May 3 rd.
How could she have failed to recognise him crossing the road, about 20 - 30 ft in front of her. just over 2 hours later?
Retired detective Ian Horrocks is suggesting that there might still be a Tannerman unaccounted for.

I'm aware of the history, just confused over recent reports emerging about Totman.
I think Jill's post above makes it clear of the importance of the sighting to reinforce abduction.

Re: MADDIE TENNIS TWIST Gerry McCann played tennis with ‘Tannerman’ on the day Madeleine went missing
So Andy Redwoods guy who turned up after 6 years, Dr Totman, Robert Murat and the abductor were all dressed alike with similar haircuts and were all carrying a barefoot child in light floral pyjamas away from the apartment block around 10pm on May 3rd 2007.
Were the four men chatting along the way?
Did Redwood guy, Totman & Murat not see the abductor?
If so, why didn't they report this?
Why didn't Tanner see four possible abductors?
And which one of these was Smith supposed to have seen? Or is Gerry no 5 in this list of lookalikes?

Just to let you all know that on Tuesday last week (8 May) I asked a further supplementary Freedom of Information Act request of the Met Police on the subject of Operation Grange, the efits, Smithman, and now Tannerman.
I received an acknowledgement on Friday (11 May). The details are below.
You can check back on the history of this particular FOI Act request in the link at the end.
I shall go over to the forum's FOI Act Section and copy this post over there:

Dear Mr Bennett
Freedom of Information Request Reference No: 2018050000336
I write in connection with your request for information which was received by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) on 08/05/2018.
I note you seek access to the following information:
QUOTE LETTER
Dear Metropolitan Police Service (MPS),
In view of the claim by Dr Julian Totman, who in 2007 was working at the government's biological, chemical and nuclear weapons research establishment at Porton Down, Wiltshire, that HE and NOT the man identified by DCI Redwood on BBC CrimeWatch in 2013 was the man allegedly seen by Jane Tanner at 9.15pm the night Madeleine McCann was reported missing, it becomes still more important that the Met Police gives the public open, transparent and FULL answers to all reasonable questions about alleged abductors and suspects.
I have one more question please. Does Operation Grange now agree that Dr Julian Totman was the man seen by Jane Tanner?

Today's Mail Online
Did anybody see today's McCann story in the mail? Sorry I don't know how to post the link. I thought operation Grange had identified Jane Tanner man a few years back which put the whole abduction theory in question. Rich Hall was suspicious rightly. Is Totman now officially Tannerman? And this story today has Tanner knowing exactly who he is having seen him play tennis with Gerry. So why did she a) not recognise anyone at the time hence eggman b) then decide it was defo Murat, then c)it was Redwoods man (was Tanner called to positively identify that bloke?), now it's Totman. I'm confused....

Gerry McCann 'played tennis with man wrongly suspected of abducting Maddie' as he and Kate share heartbreaking 15th birthday tribute saying 'we're still waiting… we'll never give up'
Gerry McCann was seen with Dr Julian Totman on May 3, 2007 by Jane Tanner
Ms Tanner did not recognise him later when she saw him carrying his daughter
Ian Horrocks, a retired Met detective believes Ms Tanner may have seen the abductor and not Dr Totman
By Bridie Pearson-jones and Tracey Kandohla For Mailonline
The father of Madeleine McCann played tennis with a man wrongly suspected of abducting her on the day she went missing.
Gerry McCann was seen with Dr Julian Totman on May 3, 2007 by witness Jane Tanner, one of the so-called 'Tapas Seven' dining with Kate and Gerry McCann in Praia da Luz.
The GP was later carrying his daughter back from a creche when he was again spotted by Ms Tanner.
But despite Dr Totman telling police about his movements detectives on the Algarve continued to hunt for the so-called 'Tannerman'.
Key witness Ms Tanner saw a dark-haired man carrying a child wearing pink floral pyjamas around the time that the four-year-old vanished from her parents' holiday apartment.
But it was only an hour later, when she was told that Madeleine had gone, that Ms Tanner realised it could have been the abductor.
The police pursued the lead for four years, despite Dr Totman, saying it was probably him.
Ian Horrocks, a retired Met detective who has done extensive work on the McCann case believes Ms Tanner may have seen the abductor.
'It would appear that Julian Totman was known by sight to Jane Tanner. Therefore, is it credible that she would not have recognised him?' he told the Sun.
The revelations come the day after Madeleine would have turned 15.
Last night her parents posted a poignant tribute to mark their daughter's 15th birthday - telling her: 'We love you and we're waiting for you and we're never going to give up.'
Gerry and his wife Kate wrote 'Happy 15th Birthday Madeleine!' on the official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page.
The message accompanies a cherished last photo of her as a three-year-old, smiling under a wide-brimmed sun hat and is posted alongside a green and yellow ribbon symbolising hope, strength and solidarity.
Their gesture comes after it was revealed Kate had laid presents in Madeleine's bedroom, hoping one day she will be back home to open them.
The brave mother, who says 'hope and perseverance remain', has carefully chosen gifts to reflect the teen's age.
She placed them, along with cards and messages of support, in Madeleine's pink bedroom which has become a shrine to her and remains unchanged since she vanished during a family holiday in Portugal 11 years ago.
Madeleine's great uncle Brian Kennedy said: 'It would be lovely to have a celebration one day. We never lose hope.'
Kate, 50, previously said: 'I do all the present buying. I think about what age she is and buy something that, whenever we find her, will still be appropriate so there's a lot of thought goes into it.' She referred to the birthday of her eldest child as a 'difficult time because that's when you really feel her absence.'
The ex-GP and eminent heart doctor husband Gerry, 49, prayed for their daughter's safe return during a low key family 'party' at home yesterday. Along with their 13-year-old twins Sean and Amelie they blew out candles on a special cake for Madeleine.
A family friend said: 'They had a get together with a few friends and family to remember Madeleine on her birthday. There were prayers and quiet reflection but also a cake and presents to mark her 15th birthday. It's a poignant time for the family coming just days after the 11th anniversary but they remain hopeful and vow to never to give up the search.'
Madeleine's birthday falls just nine days after her parents joined an informal prayer gathering in their home village of Rothley, Leicestershire, to mark yet another painful anniversary of her disappearance in May 2007. During the outdoor service Kate read a poem called The Contradiction to remember Madeleine with haunting words: 'I trace your steps, I map your face. You're all I know and so unknown. I cannot hold you, yet I do.'
The couple cling onto a glimmer of hope that their daughter - who was snatched as a three-year-old - could still be alive and told in an anniversary message on the Find Madeleine website that the continuing support from family, friends and well wishers was 'a real tonic and boost to our spirit.'
They stated: 'She is a real person and still our 'little girl' and as we always have we will endeavour to do whatever it takes to find her.
'Hope and perseverance remain.'
Kate, who is now a part time medical worker, still spends precious moments each day in Madeleine's bedroom which she reveals has 'shocking pink walls and stars on the ceiling' and where her dolls and teddies are on display, along with an ever growing number of presents.
She said she could never ignore Madeleine's birthday and the family 'still celebrates her being part of our lives'. She told BBC's Panoroma to mark last year's milestone decade anniversary: 'I couldn't not, she's still our daughter, she'll always be our daughter. She should be here and we should be celebrating with her!'
She said: 'Everything's the same and there are photographs all around the house. Whether it be a birthday, family occasion or even an achievement that is when you really feel her absence.'
She also told in her mind's eye how she jumps from seeing her eldest child as she was when she was kidnapped to envisaging her as she would be now.
Madeleine was kidnapped after being left sleeping alone with her twin siblings at their holiday apartment in the Algarve's Praia da Luz. At the time her parents were dining with friends at a nearby resort tapas restaurant. She was discovered missing from her bed in the rented flat by Kate shortly after 10pm.
Detectives believe she was stolen by child traffickers, sex fiends or during a burglary gone wrong.
Scotland Yard are still chasing 'a final line of inquiry' and have been given extra £154,000 funding to keep their Operation Grange investigation going until the end of September.
Kate said: 'Information continues to come in, incredible as it may seem after so long, although we are grateful for that, and work goes on.'

Why do you think Dr Totman has made himself known to the media now? It seems such an odd thing to do after eleven years? After Scotland Yard protected his identity and everything.

Since Dr Totman works at the Government's secret Porton Down facility, is he a low level member of the secret services? And if so, did his bosses tell him to make this statement?
