Let's not forget Great Uncle Brian Kennedy's unambiguous statement very early on that the Madeleine Fund (or the fighting fund, as called by the interviewing news reporter) was going to be used for 'all sorts of reasons but probably mainly for legal expenditure'.

Note: The reporter would not have come up with the term 'fighting fund' herself, it must have been given to her by someone closely involved.

Despite Brian Kennedy's apparent honesty and the reporter's description of the fund, the money poured in.

On the same video ( You Tube....Brian Kennedy Publicly Requests Money for Legal Expenditure), Gerry's mother comments about her son
' Feeling a lot brighter in his voice and I think us being here with the family and the fund starting, that's uplifted him and his Doctors from the hospital especially Doug Skehan, who's his immediate boss, he has been wonderful.
Good uplifting news, so that's probably made his voice a bit brighter, not as anguished. And that's what I found in him today'
No mention of Madeleine, then.
