It seems to be heading towards a "Parents Not Guilty" conclusion. All of this dubious evidence is considered, the evidence of the dogs undermined, and the glaring lack of evidence that any stranger had been in the apartment the supposed fatal night.
IMO, of course

Paedophiles whitewashed from the disappearance! Not a mention of child trafficking rings or numerous little girls being assaulted in their beds by smelly, bulls-eye-T-shirt-wearing men. It seems it's burglars or the parents - take your pick. Kate and Gerry must be gutted. They've told us for years they were carefully targeted by a paedophile ring. No mention of how unlikely it would be to carry out a burglary on that night when there was so much to-ing and fro-ing around 5A, almost non-stop activity, nor how unlikely burglars would take nothing but a child. Only the Portuguese police pointed out that nothing had been stolen. Hairy Bert did his best to have a burglar open the shutters from outside but failed to mention how a burglar could leave no trace on the bed. In any case we're now apparently looking for a strong woman in a purple top. The thing which struck me most from the Sky and BBC close-up photos of Madeleine is the fact that she had no noticeable coloboma. It, like the paedophile connection, has been airbrushed from the story.

i did like the last statement in the BBC News at Ten, it was something like, one thing we don't know is how it happened.

However, (this is not  reported speech from the programme but my observations) the parents say they know; she was abducted. So they know-but the rest of us don't.

The shutter opening was staged because the window seemed to be already unlocked ready for sliding across & you didn't see the shutters being lifted right from the bottom, they were already open several inches when the clip started so the internal cord could have been pulled to give the shutters some slack.

Anyway even if the shutters could be opened as per the demo then why did the McCanns say they'd been forced or jemmied according to Jill Renwick so the McCanns still lied no matter what.

If I'd have been doing the demo, obviously aimed at discrediting the shutter evidence, & knew it could be done, I'd have gone to great lengths to do it slowly with a running commentary at each stage & explaining how the shutter mechanism could be forced open to allow the few inches needed to access the window.

I didn't think it was same apartment, unless it was done before the bars were fitted.

The size of the cover-up is pretty big isn't it.

It goes right to the top of the establishment.

It's obvious the official establishment mouthpiece is in on it.

Only a couple of observations, apart from the usual bias and twisted facts from the Beeb, until I view it again:

- PJ boss Pedro do Carmo's comments towards the end along the lines that it was evidence that was needed but that 'his heart' already knew the answer; ( and he didn't mean abduction)

- Clarrie stating that the British media were called between 12 and 1am and that you couldn't blame them for doing that - he would have done the same if he had been in their situation; not sure if he said who called?

- the appalling way that Bilton went around questioning local men (not interviewing) who had NEVER been on the Portuguese's radar and who had been completely ruled out of any involvement;

- the complete disdain in which Op Grange is viewed by the PJ, depsite what is said officially about co-operation between the 2 countries;

- Oh yes! Now I remember the one that p***** me off the most - some MET officer stating that the reason the McCanns/Tapas 7 had not been investigated by Op Grange was because at the very start of the review they had sifted (I think he said) through all (yes, all) the information and it was quite clear from the word go that the McCanns didn't have anything to do with it.

  Simple as that then - a quick cursory sift through everything did the trick. But up to now we have been told by the MET that Grange's remit was to investigate the disappearance as an abduction because the McCanns had been cleared by the initial Portuguese investigations - no other reason. What do they call it - oh yes that's right, back fitting - seems it's not just a McCann thing. Now that the world has been told by Portugal's highest court that actually, no, the Mc's were never cleared of involvement in their daughter's disappearance, the Met has suddenly had to come up with some other credible reason why the McCanns and Tapas 7 have been given complete immunity from investigation by the British. Now we know, the multi-million pound investigation led by Britain's finest investigative minds, completely exonerated the McCanns with a bit of speed reading and deduction. You'd have thought they'd have had the abductor within days wouldn't you.

@BlueBag - yes, my overwhelming impression at the end was exactly that, it goes right to the top.

No interview with Lee Rainbow, Mark Harrison or Martin Grime which could have been done by video link. Creche Dad's strange journey of walking toward the night creche WITH his child while going to COLLECT his child glossed over. As Kate would say they "just dropped it and moved on". Colin Sutton mentions the importance of mobile phone history and the unusual turning off of phones yet no reference to the deleted phone records or Gerry's incommunicado period. Correct me if I'm wrong but I always believed the trip to Huelva was filmed by John Corner's crew and not the media pack as suggested by Clarrie The Pink. He seemed particularly sensitive about this. The hounding of local men was disgusting but needed to fill time as Grange has discovered zilch. Did my eyes deceive me or was that Jose Socrates sneering about Dr. Amaral and the Lisbon Treaty. Naw, can't have been or they'd have mentioned his fraud conviction?

Did I hear right?

RB: 'The McCanns set up a CHARITY, Madeleine's Fund'

If the McS are 'claiming' Madeleine's Fund, IS a 'charity'..................that's FRAUD.

They were 'refused' charity 'status' by the Charity Commission, right from the 'outset', because their 'fund' was only for their 'benefit' and for their ONE 'child', and not 'the wider public good'.

https://madeleinemccannthetruth.wordpress.com/2011/11/12/the-fund-the-charities-commission-and-the-truth/

The BBC WOULD have 'KNOWN' this, before 'broadcasting' their programme last night, wouldn't they?

The dodgy remit of Operation Grange has now been fully exposed, and their crackpot excuse for not initially investigating/questioning the McCanns under caution, has left them all stinking of sea bass!  No pink ponce, PR mumbo jumbo is going to airbrush this away.  It places the finger of suspicion right back where it belongs, and neatly paves the way for Goncalo Amaral and his new book, which I predict will fly off the shelves! nod

Post by Richard D. Hall 04.05.17 11:08

I think one of the objectives of this programme was to minimise the fact that the UK and it's agencies leant on the Portuguese in order to get them to drop the case.  They presented it simply as the two police forces having two different theories, and that this was the issue of contention, rather than a blatant cover up.  It's what I call the "phony bone of contention", which was being constructed throughout the show.  Some of the "actors" were included purely to be able to present their denials.  ie the former Portuguese prime minister and Robert Murat.  No background was explained as to why and how Robert Murat and Jose Socrates may have played their part in a cover up.  Just simply given a platform to deny any involvement.  So although the programme concludes there was not enough evidence to know what happened and therefore is helping to protect the McCann's (IMO), it seemed to me the programme was more concerned about hiding the involvement of the UK  government in the cover up.  And where do they get these Irish accented actors from to do the voice of Martin Smith? - I'd like to see him interviewed on camera.

They made it seem as though the British and Portuguese investigations were running simultaneously and were at odds with each other which is not the case.  The Portuguese investigation had been shelved for what, 3 years? - before the UK police "officially" got involved.

Yup. It was Jose the fraudster, pity they forgot to mention this. Another outrageous (ta Tracey!) claim is that loads of witnesses placed Gerry elsewhere during the Smith sighting. While I don't believe they saw Gerry, this is factually incorrect. The only diners after 9pm were the Tapas 9 (how strangely convenient) and the waiters do not place Gerry or the rest there for the full duration of this period. Someone needs to tell the BBC that Drogheda folk do not speak with Northern Irish accents. Drogheda is essentially a satellite town for Dublin and its residents sound like north county Dubliners. I Agree with Richard H. This program is an attempt to minimize the political interference in the case.
