Shannon's 'family' begged for money from the Madeleine McCann fund
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
Updated: 17:55, 8 April 2008
Members of Shannon's family applied for money from the Madeleine McCann Fund in the 24 days she was missing from home, it has been revealed.
As police searched for the missing nine-year-old, someone claiming to be her aunt asked for money from the fund, a newspaper reported.
The McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: "She didn't seem to understand why we couldn't just send a large wad of cash. I must admit I found it a bit odd.
"The fund directors considered helping the search as a gesture of goodwill.
"But I was concerned about the haphazard method of approach and suggested we didn't get involved."

Who were these officials in charge of the fund? Themselves, of course. They begged themselves.

"With no idea the schoolgirl’s snatch was a hoax brave Kate and Gerry reached out to desperate relatives saying how “deeply concerned” they were as they pledged to do “all we can to help.”
They sent a message of solidarity to mum Karen Matthews telling her: “The continued disappearance of Shannon is deeply concerning and our thoughts and prayers are with your family.”.

Perplexed? Not buoyed that little Shannon was found?MrsC wrote:Perplexed is a new one!
Anyway, Madeleine was linked to the Shannon case during those 3 weeks. Unless the McCs have some alternative facts now, had plenty of them over 10 years.

They were prepared to beg....that didn't happen.
I wonder how much begging they had to do to the officials to release the funds to pay their mortgage? That did happen.

Shannon Matthews is alive. The management of the case by the police was carried out professionally. There was no interference by an external government or diplomatic service. The media interest was local as opposed to international. The people at the centre of Shannons disappearance were thick morons not educated evil bastrads like the tapas crew. I KNOW this series is being debated by their children's classmates.

The stats show that in most cases of alleged abduction the family are involved.
The Shannon Matthews case was a perfect example of that.
If only Scotland Yard were allowed to investigate another case on that basis.

Hmmmmm, hurt and perplexed by a BBC drama eh ? No thoughts or emotions yet which they wish to share with the public about the recent decision from the Portuguese supreme court ? Kate and Gerry seem unusually tight lipped on that subject.

They're really not that bright for a couple of doctors are they.
Karen Matthews planned a faux abduction and fund raiser based on your missing daughter....so the drama includes her talking about it.
Perplexing!

Remember this is The Sun and Daily Mail folks, usually a complete load of tripe. Anyone can (and does write anything), these days, there's absolutely no need whatsoever to have the ability to substantiate what you've written.
The Mail especially seems to switch from being pro McCann to anti McCann depending on the weather. It used to be propaganda, then it was misinformation, the latest term is fake news. In my book the correct word is lies, but calling someone a liar might hurt their feelings and we wouldn't want to do that would we.

I agree the media has always been biased, now people call it 'fake news' but that's too simplistic, a dismissal like calling someone a troll.
The thing is with these stories in the Fail, even though it's a load of tripe there's always one consistency, the 'source' close to the family. So at least we can use these stories as a gauge on what the family are trying desperately to control.

This is he same Clarence Mitchell who went on the radio and told people to put money in envelopes and just address it to "Kate and Gerry, Rothley"!!!

The hypocrisy of the McCanns is astounding. When Shannon was found, the McCanns released a statement to sky news within a few minutes about how pleased they were and how it gave them renewed hope to find madeleine.

So "haphazard method of approach" basically means it wasnt a PR or Government employed spokesman so Clarrie decided not to get involved.

Not hurt and perplexed by Amazon selling Goncalo Amarals book ? Time was the McCanns would have been all fired up suing the pants off Amazon and doing the rounds of the TV studios expressing their indignation. No doubt we shall discover eventually why they have gone so quiet. As for the Mathews case, it was the McCanns who gave Karen Mathews the idea for the faux kidnapping. Their own actions linked the two cases.

Re: WE'RE HURT AND PERPLEXED' Maddie McCann’s parents hit out at BBC over ‘insensitive’ way their daughter has been dragged into Shannon Matthews drama The Moorside
There are around 7 ( I lost count) articles on Matthews on the Sun's facebook page. The reams of comments, particularly on the article this thread is concerned with, show how far the public have turned against the McCanns and how the two cases are conflated in the minds of many.
One of these articles talks of Matthew's desire to change her name ..... to Kate.! After Kate Winslett apparently, who she favours playing her part in any future film made about the case. Naturally, there were a few comments along the lines of which Kate!.
That should go down well.

Oh dear the second part of "Moorside " has just finished !
Not a mention of Madeleine or the McCanns !
Will they be "hurt and perplexed "
Will they be " furious "
Will they be " buoyed "
Where is their next headline coming from ?
Get the braincell working Tracey !!!

I've just watched it too, and you're right, no mention at all about the case. And the first episode mentioned it no more than 4 times if memory serves. Those references weren't at all tasteless or insensitive. The Sun said of the first instalment that it kept mentioning it! I'm afraid it is just yet another flimsy excuse to get their rampaging egos mentioned in the press.
