LET'S HOPE THAT SHE IS FOUND Ruth Langsford defends Kate McCann in Loose Women discussion about missing Maddie
Panel discussed the grieving parents' latest legal setback

BY EMMA GRITT  1st February 2017, 1:42 pm

RUTH Langsford has defended Kate McCann against claims she ‘shows no emotion’ about the disappearance of her daughter Madeline.

On today’s Loose Women, the panel discussed the McCann’s legal battle to silence Portuguese cop Goncalo Amaral’s book in which he claims that the couple covered up their daughter’s death.

Janet Street Porter compared Kate McCann to Lindy Chamberlain, whose daughter was snatched by a dingo in Australia
Ruth said: “You could never give up hope could you?

“Unless you’re presented with evidence that was conclusive to say sorry but your your daughter had died, you have to believe she is alive.”

Janet Street-Porter then compared the case to Azaria Chamberlain, the baby snatched by a dingo in 1980.

She explained that the tot’s mum Lindy had been to jail for killing her, although she was completely innocent.

Janet said: “Michael and Lindy Chamberlain were camping by Ayres Rock and a dingo took their baby and has never been found.

“Because Lindy had a rather forbidding presence and she didn’t smile alot and she looked quite stern, the public judged her as being a murderer and she went to jail until she was released.”

Ruth then compared her to Kate, citing people who often comment on the doctor’s lack of emotion.

She said: “People say, ‘she seems quite cold and she doesn’t cry’… people expect you to be weeping.”

Speaking about Maddie’s disappearance – which happened ten years ago in May – the panel agreed that they, like the rest of the UK had been totally fascinated by the case.

Lisa Riley revealed that she was so obsessed with the case that she travelled to the resort in Portugal where she was last seen and worked out how far the family’s holiday apartment was from the restaurant they dined in the fateful night that she went missing.

She admitted: “I didn’t want to judge her, so I got the book and I read it and I have to admit,  chapter by chapter I kept changing my opinion of her.

“When I was in the Algarve I did actually go and I went to the holiday complex where they were.

“I kind of wanted to judge where the restaurant was myself and the actual distance to the apartment.

“I haven’t got kids… would I have done it? No I wouldn’t.

“It’s a long way, it is a long way. I personally couldn’t have done that.

“My problem is the amount of children that are going missing day by day in England – one every three minutes.

“Millions has been ploughed in to this one  case – can we spread the money? Can we see some other cases?”

Ruth agreed: “It is staggering.”

The McCanns were left devastated on Tuesday morning after after Portuguese Supreme Court judges ruled against a lower court’s decision last April to reverse their 2015 libel win against the former cop.

Supreme Court judges met in Lisbon on Tuesday to resolve the couple’s fight against a lower court’s decision in April last year to reverse their 2015 libel win against the former detective – with the ruling handed down on the eve of their younger twin children’s 12th birthdays.

Although the hearing took place in private – and an official public decision is not set to be sent to lawyers acting for the litigants until later in the week – it emerged late in the afternoon that the case had gone against Gerry and Kate McCann.

It’s a blow to the couple who have committed thousands of pounds in the search for Maddie, and who hoped to force the former detective to pay more than £1million in compensation.

Kate McCann has never pulled up a chair and taken a seat on Loose Women and is never likely to. Kate McCann belongs to a PR machine that decides what is best for Kate McCann. That same PR machine decides what is best for their own raison d'être (see Clarence Mitchell's boasts of the perfect campaign).

...and where is Madeleine in all of this?

She's bottom of the pile. She's reduced to an iconic photograph and a whole heap of more PR from a charity that can't explain its own existence (Missing People) other than to use Madeleine McCann and procure massive amounts of money and not disclose how effectively that money is spent.

Madeleine McCann's life has been reduced to this.

It's staggering isn't it... its what's known as a "cash cow"

My heart bleeds for little Madeleine, an innocent amongst greedy cheaters, liars and sinners IMO

I can only urge people to read the Missing People website in detail. It takes hours and is akin to a labyrinth of beating anyone with a modicum of intelligence and a life to lose interest and not pursue anything in depth.

There are some decent journalists who take a very great interest in major charities - and Missing People is now a major charity that has absorbed all others in its wake. It's of very great interest that Missing People had little clout (and little finance) and was by no means an uber charity prior to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann but boy hasn't it become a big important and all embracing 'go to' institution supported by the UK Police and yet with all its fun raising (yes, the emphasis is on fun and not fund) it still can't publish its effectiveness in any way whatsoever. Just get on your bike, run in a park, hold a cake bake, give us your money.

I'm probably not explaining myself well here but take a look at the history of this charity and ask a decent journalist to investigate it.

I've noticed that these people rushing to the defence of the McCanns have usually never studied the case in depth and are simply buying into the mythos that Team McCann have generated.  And as far as the dingo baby case is concerned - it was never actually proved that a dingo took the baby as far as I'm aware - though enough reasonable doubt was provided to set the mother free.

Interesting you should say that, galena. I have been wondering if Ruth Langsford accompanied husband Eamonn on a trip he took to Lagos. If so, she kept quiet about it on Loose Women yesterday when Lisa Riley talked of visiting PdL and checking the distance of 5a from the tapas bar.

Here is a transcript of Eamonn Holmes on Sky Paper reviews.
News, Morning News Programme - Presenter Eamonn Holmes Sky News 18 April 2012
With thanks to A Miller for transcript

Eamonn Holmes and Louise Court, the editor of Cosmopolitan magazine, discuss the headline in the Daily Express - 'Madeleine 'Spotted in Spain''

Eamonn Holmes: And we are going to start Louise, front page headline, and I hope this is true, there is some foundation to this. This is the front page of the Express Madeleine Spotted in Spain we re coming up to the 5th Anniversary of disappearance of young Madeleine McCann.

Louise Court: I think it's the point you've made Eammon I hope it's true. I mean there's supposedly been this tip-off that a girl looking like Madeleine has been spotted in Nerja the Costa del Sol.

Eamonn Holmes: Nerja would be about 270 miles, if you went right across the coast of Spain and Portugal, away from where she was abducted in Lagos.

Louise Court: And it must be totally the news that her parents want to hear. But I just also wonder how they must feel because, you know, your hopes are lifted and, you know, for them to be dashed again. It's just unbearable.

Eamonn Holmes: But you see, part of me just doubts whether this is true or not, or is it about just keeping the awareness, keeping the profile, keeping us all thinking about it? The parents may be complicit in this, I don't know, and encouraging these stories and keeping them out just to keep people aware. I found myself last week amazingly in Lagos, and then you do that thing - Where was the hotel? Where was the church they went to? Whatever. And you know a beautiful small place and you just wonder how it could have happened? But it is right that we all should be aware of this and we only hope there is some truth in that.

Louise Court: But you always seem to get these sightings in the Mediterreanean and in in these coastal towns. And you think, well if you had taken her you would think that you wouldn't have... you know, why would she only be spotted in those places.

Eamonn Holmes: Well, sometimes it's all very close to home.
