I honestly can't say why, but I always found that statement to sound rather odd..
That is the only occasion I have seen where Kate seems genuinely distraught. My theory is, that as Catholics, knowing that Madeleine is dead, they believe she is in Purgatory. The only release , according to the doctrine, is by prayer. Whether the church still tells its members that large amounts of money have to be paid to allow their dead loved ones into heaven, I don't know.

No, as a Catholic myself (although somewhat lapsed), I can tell you that we do not believe young children go to purgatory, they go straight to heaven as ready made angels. Especially those of an age who would not have made their first confession and communion, as they are considered to be ignorant of evil and therefore pure in heart and spirit.

The part I found odd was her saying "she's lovely", which just sounded awkward and completely out of character with the woman we had been listening to up to then, who seemed not to have much praise at all for her missing daughter. I may be just a bit hyper critical here, but as soon as I read the topic title that quote came into my head.

Yes, the Roman Catholic Church very much still does believe in a place called ‘purgatory’. See here and in numerous other places:

http://catholicstraightanswers.com/do-we-still-believe-in-purgatory/

Further, the Roman Catholic Church has always taught that if people pay money to its priests, the priests will pray for their loved ones to have ‘time off’ in purgatory. That is why the Papacy is so rich! And they still ask for money to pray for time off purgatory in Fenruary 2017 - I have seen the 'Indulgence Boxes' in today's Roman Catholic Churches.

It was the gross abuse of this practice that led Martin Luther in 1517, exactly 500 years ago, to nail up his ’95 theses’ against the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church, thus ushering in what we now refer to as the Reformation.

The Bible most certainly teaches life after death. In a reminder of what may have happened to Madeleine McCann, one of Christ’s many miracles was the raising of Lazarus from the dead after he had been dead four days and – despite his family and friends having pointed out to Christ that his body ‘stank’ (John 11 vv 1-57). This was the event that finally led the Jewish leaders of the day to plot His arrest and trial in a charge of ‘blasphemy’.

And Christ Himself was raised back to life on the third day, being crucified after a blameless life in which he healed the sick, cast out devils, and performed many miracles in the presence of many witnesses:

“Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not. After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country…Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16 vv 9-15).

The Bible nowhere speaks of a place called ‘purgatory’.

Instead, the writer of Hebrews states:

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment”. (Hebrews 9 v 3).

On the subject of that Day of Judgment, Christ said: “Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops". (Luke 12 v 3)

And in the book of Romans, Paul wrote:  But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of  Christ” (Romans 14 v 10).
There is no need to pay any money to be assured of salvation. Christ offers this freely to those who frankly admit they are sinners, and seek His help.

"Seek, and you will find..."

Yes, Purgatory is unscriptural , borrowed and developed from Greek philosophy. In this context , however, s mother asking all to pray for her 'lost' child would not be surprising.

@davek16 wrote:Is it just me or do many people on here just simply 'want' it to be the McCanns who perpetrated Madeleine's disappearance in order to feed some deep rooted fantasy of their own or what? Unless you found yourself in the McCann's position on April 3 2007, it would be difficult to predict how anyone would react and how those reactions might be perceived by others far removed from their situation. Much better, surely, to keep an open, non- judgemental approach. After all, mere speculation probably won't bring us any closer to finding out what really happened. And finally, there are abduction/murder/foul play cases that remain unsolved after several decades, so probably best to 'let it lie' until such time as Madeleine miraculously re-appears as a traumatised teenage hostage victim or a new lead is uncovered that leads to the identity and confession of the actual perpetrator. IMO it's more likely RIP Maddie and we never find out the truth.

Well, exactly, what was the McCan'ts 'position' on 3rd (THIRD) of APRIL 2007 as you 'note'...'davek 16'?

You 'tell' us!

Much better, surely, to READ the case 'files'!

Re: 'QUOTE OF THE DAY'

Post by Verdi on 04.02.17 15:03

4th December 2007

Dear Mr Rebelo,

I hope you do not mind me writing to you and that you will read my letter. I am Madeleine McCann's mother.

I am not sure if you are a parent or not, but for my husband and myself, and the whole of our family, the last seven months has been the most difficult, sad and unbearable time that any parent could possibly imagine. Madeleine is the most precious thing in our life.

As her mother, the pain and anxiety I feel for her is indescribable and the feeling of helplessness overwhelming. The 'accusations' and media smearing, although upsetting, are very much secondary.

I am appealing to you as a fellow human being to work with us (if possible include us) and to remember that we are Madeleine's parents and have needs.
With regard to this latter point, I would be grateful if you were able to keep us informed to some degree as to how the investigation is going - what work is being done to help find our daughter etc.

I'm sure you will agree that this request is not unreasonable and is in fact humane.

I am fairly familiar now with the workings of 'judicial secrecy' but even if we could have a little bit of information in the broadest of terms it would help.
Lack of communication and a void of information, particularly as the parent of a missing child, is torture. We will continue to work with the PJ (and are keen to do so as soon as possible!) as we have done since that moment when I discovered that Madeleine had been taken.

This shouldn't be about 'finger-pointing blame', nor should it be about differences in culture. It should be about a beautiful, innocent little girl who is still missing. She is the victim in all of this.

It would be good for Madeleine if we could all work together to help find her and the person(s) who took her.

I would be very grateful if you could give some thought and consideration to my letter and look forward to your reply. I can only ask.

Yours sincerely,

Kate McCann.

Such blatent audacity - shame on you Dr Healy/McCann.  So how does this fit in with their litigation against Mr Amaral?  The Portuguese authorities should have presented this open letter to the Lisbon court, before the trial commenced, it could have halted the whole futile process there and then!

Kate McCann..

"A witness claimed to have seen Gerry and me carrying a big black bag and acting suspiciously. This was absolute nonsense, but 'evidence' of this kind came down to one person's word against another. And it appeared that, as far as the PJ were concerned, our word counted for little...."

Jane Tanner, during her rotatory interview in April 2008, replies when questioned about her telephone records..

“Yeah this is the one I think it would be, this is erm, this is Charlotte, my friend in Exeter who was actually out in Portugal with us when we were there, but I think I rang her, she went home on the Saturday and she hadn’t taken her mobile out with her, cos I’d (inaudible) texted her, that day we were supposed to go, it was her husband’s birthday, I must have, I’ve still got the text on here that she, we were supposed to go to their apartment for a barbecue at lunch time, so I text her in the morning and said, (inaudible) text (inaudible), there you go, I text her in the morning and said that, so you see what time that is and but she didn’t answer so, cos she hadn’t got her mobile phone”.

So at least two other people 'who were actually out in Portugal  with us when we were there' Did they lunch with, play tennis with, have fun nights in the tapas bar with these two. They went home on the Saturday.

Gerry McCann

One of the ideas is maybe getting all the people who have publicly supported us to come together. I don’t just mean from the UK but from different parts of the world. We want a big event to raise awareness that she is still missing.

We would look at high-profile people who have already pledged support. It will be some sort of focus around an anniversary, to tell people thatMadeleine ’s still missing. I think it would be later this year, once media attention has dropped, to bring it back up, hopefully, for a short period.

It wouldn’t be a one-year anniversary, it will be sooner than that. What we’re doing at the minute has its role but doing that down the line in a few months won’t have anything like the same impact. We might have a sporting event, something arts, something music.

We’ve had backing from sporting people up to now. We have had backing from certain musical celebrities as well. We’ve got some other musical contacts that we are exploring, who are happy to offer support.

We’re not saying it would necessarily be one big concert, it might be that on a certain day they are playing her DVD.

What we want at the current time is maximum message out there now, about her disappearance but then just events to bring it back up occasionally just to remind people, if she’s not found.

I always get the feeling they are deliberately taunting.  They must think they are so well protected that nothing can touch them - they're certainly cocksure of the 'no evidence' - the rest is just gloss.

'Find the body and prove we killed her'.  I must check out the source of that comment - if genuine it deserves a place all of it's own in quote of the day.

Yes... that quote of Gerry's says they know she won't turn up any time soon.

As does Clarence Mitchell's decision to give up a big job for the Government.

Kate McCan't: "It was the fifth night. We reserved a table at 8.30. By 9.00 everybody was… was there. It was on the third check, which was my check, errm… that I went, errm… and I discovered Madeleine had been taken."

Oooops!

Jeez! That's just 'basic'..........getting your 'stories' straight!

Also, on 6th May 2007:
Alan Pike plants in McCanns’ minds the idea of reducing the size of their support group. Trish, Sandy, Michael Nicki would be asked to stay on,

This was raised with family earlier than anticipated – on the Sunday evening.

"Gerry had gone round to one of the family containing apartments, something was said that annoyed him. Gerry’s mum says to Susan Healy “ Well Sue – it looks as though we’re on the Granny Express home.”
------------------------------------------------------

"something was said that annoyed him"

'something' like?

'Why the fcuk did you tell us all to 'lie' about the shutter' being 'forced, broken into, jemmied and smashed'?

Strangely, KM said on her bike ride for Missing People..........'you need as MANY eyes and ears you can get when 'searching'

Strange they did NOT 'want' then, both grandmother's 'eyes and ears' to 'help' the 'search' for their grand daughter.

Just like they did NOT 'need' GM's 'tennis buddy' JW's 'extra pair of eyes' for the 'search' in the early hours of 4th May 2007.
