On May 4, 2007 the news broke that a British child had gone missing from the seaside town of Praia da Luz in Portugal the night before.

Pictures of Madeleine McCann - who was just shy of her fourth birthday - quickly began circulating around the world as the search got underway.

As the days passed it emerged that parents Kate and Gerry, from Leicestershire, had left Madeleine and her younger twin siblings asleep in their ground floor apartment while they had dinner nearby with friends. The parents had been checking on the children regularly until Kate - originally from Liverpool - discovered Madeleine missing at 10pm.

The story was heavily reported across the world, with Madeleine’s picture on the front page of several British tabloids, every day, for six months.

But sadly, Madeleine has never been found and the search goes on.

And just below that article is the murder of 11yr old footy fan, Rhys Jones, in August 2007. Everton players left flowers and football shirts a the scene.

That's two adverts for Everton F.C.

I wonder how much money changed hands between Everton FC and Trinity Mirror Group. thinking

The Liverpool Echo also boasts an archive entry in the name of Madeleine McCann. A cusory count amounted to nigh on 200 reports over a period of time - something to do with Everton F.C. per chance?
