LISA IRWIN, 10 months: parents make tearful plea - AND - Aaliyah Lunsford, missing in U.S., aged 3: LATEST

The parents of a missing 10-month-old Kansas City girl are begging that she be dropped off someplace safe, no questions asked.
Jeremy Irwin and Deborah Bradley spoke to the media for the first time Wednesday, almost two days after their daughter Lisa disappeared. The couple made a tearful plea for information about their child and took no questions from reporters.
The parents are not considered suspects, police said, as federal agents searched the family's home with dogs.
Lisa Irwin was last seen around 10:30 p.m. Monday when her mother put her to bed. Her father, an electrician, discovered Lisa missing when he got home around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday from a late-night shift at work, police said.
Police have said they are investigating the possibility that someone entered the home through a front window and snatched the baby. Police said it appears a window at the home may have been tampered with, Fox affiliate WDAF-TV reports.
On Wednesday, FBI agents with dogs searched the family's home, a light-green ranch-style home in a cozy neighborhood along a winding street. An FBI spokeswoman acknowledged the agency was committing significant resources to the search, but declined to discuss why the agents entered the home or what they found.
City police meanwhile combed a nearby wooded area and knocked on doors in the neighborhood to find out what people saw. Neighbors have been reluctant to talk to the media, and on Tuesday shooed reporters away from their homes.
Kansas City police Capt. Steve Young said investigators interviewed the girl's parents until about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, but did not take them into custody. He declined to say where the parents are now.
"They were cooperative, but at this point we have new to nothing to go on," Young said.
He said police have invited the parents to address the media, but they had not taken up that offer as of early Wednesday afternoon.
Kansas City police spokesman Darin Snapp said the lack of leads was frustrating.
"We're just waiting for the right tip to come in," Snapp said.
He said a report that a neighbor saw a man in the neighborhood carrying a baby overnight Tuesday "went nowhere."
Lisa has blue eyes and blonde hair. She is 30 inches tall and weighs around 28 pounds, police said, and was wearing purple shorts and a purple shirt with white kittens on it.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said it is doing all it can to assist in the investigations.
The center's president, Ernie Allen, was cautiously hopeful that Lisa would be found, saying that of 278 infant abductions nationwide over the past 28 years, only 12 of those children didn't come home safely.
An Amber Alert issued for Lisa Tuesday morning was called off after 12 hours. Police said that was just a formality because the alerts are designed to raise awareness early in an investigation.
"Generally early notification is to provide key information about these cases through an Amber Alert, then they move on to other kinds of public awareness and media," Allen said. "The full explanation is that Amber Alerts are meant to be the initial call ... to mobilize the eyes and ears of the public."

It's hard to imagine that there will be a happy ending to this story, whatever the truth of it turns out to be. I don't think that you-know-who will be proclaiming "there you are, we were right all along, these things do happen!" for the time being at least.

mobile phones missing
Missing 10 month-old Lisa Irwin's parents spoke in-depth Thursday morning about their daughter.
They said their cell phones were stolen but that nothing else appears to be missing from their home.
They also described the first few moments when they discovered that their little girl was missing from her crib inside their home in the 3600 block of North Lister Ave.
They frantically searched their home but discovered only an open window, an unlocked front door and lights turned on.
Jeremy Irwin said he immediately knew something was wrong when he returned home from work early Tuesday.
Jeremy Irwin said he came home from his overnight shift around 4 a.m. Tuesday. He noticed a window opened in the front of the house. After checking on his 6- and 8-year-old sons he went to the bedroom of his daughter, Lisa, and noticed Lisa missing.
Crime scene technicians in white suits on Wednesday are combing the parents' Northland home and backyard for clues in an effort to find Lisa. Agents focused on a first-floor window
through which the family believes the kidnapper entered the home.
Dogs are also being used in an effort to find the girl's scent. Officers on all-terrain vehicles searched a sandpit north of Highway 210 Wednesday afternoon.
"The family is being cooperative with detectives," Young said. "If there were any holes in their story, we would know by now. There are no holes in their stories. . . . There is a 10-month-old who isn't where she belongs and we are trying to find her. We will keep going bigger as long as we need to."
"What makes this case unusual is we still haven't really developed any hard information to go off of," Young said.
According to police, it appears the suspect entered and exited through a bedroom window. Young said a first-floor window appeared to have been tampered with. Police waited more than three hours to issue the Amber Alert because they wanted to interview family members and ensure their stories checked out.
One neighbor told police that a stranger was seen walking a baby wearing only a diaper about 1 a.m. in the street by the baby's home. Young said this tip didn't pan out.

I just found out about this case and would like to make a couple of points. I read a comment on a American news site (yes they are allowed!) and someone made an interesting point about the 3 stolen mobile phones. One was the dad's phone..............wouldn't he have that on him at work?
And this article is interesting too: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
They seem to be searching a specific area 3 miles from the home. Here is google link to give an idea of locations: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
"A" is the search area and "B" is the home.
I hope this case has a happy ending though............

Parents Of Missouri Baby Stop Cooperating
The parents of a missing 10-month-old Missouri girl are no longer cooperating with investigators, police said late Thursday – an assertion the family quickly and firmly denied.
At an evening news conference, Kansas City police spokesman Steve Young said Jeremy Irwin and Deborah Bradley stopped cooperating with authorities Thursday. The couple had been working with police since the disappearance of their daughter, Lisa, who the parents say was snatched from her crib sometime late Monday or early Tuesday.
"Tonight, they decided to stop talking to detectives, and I don't have to illustrate how that affects the investigation. That speaks for itself," Young said.
Relatives of the couple later called their own news conference, where a sister of Irwin read a statement saying "we have never stopped cooperating with police."
"We've been cooperative from day one, and we continue to assist the police with the investigation," the statement.
Young also said the parents' claim that whoever took their daughter also stole their cellphones hadn't produced any leads. And he reiterated that investigators still have no suspects.
Asked after the news conference what would happen to the investigation without the parents' cooperation, Young said he could not comment.

I think this was the clip I saw very briefly this morning showing the parents, with the Mother making a request to the kidnapper to bring her daughter back. I need to see it again, but what I think I saw, as I was in the middle of doing something, was the exact same gesture made by Karen Matthews. "Please bring her back", head should be nodding 'yes', but in this case, it was shaking left to right 'no'.

It was bad enough that Shannon Matthews was a victim of a McCann-style faked abduction, but please God don't let people start doing this with little babies.

Latest report from ABC News: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
The police sound like they are getting at bit pee'd off. Have shut down the command post.
It is a bit worrying with every updated article there seems to be added detail from the mother.
The story so far goes like this:
1, Baby put to bed at 10:30pm
2, Mother forgets to lock front door (for the first time) and leaves the family's 3 mobile phones on the kitchen worktop waiting to be reprogrammed.
3, Mother goes to bed sometime after 10:30pm (Later to add with her six year old son and a stray kitten)
4, Father returns home at 4am (Later video report state it was the first time the father did a night shift) to find door unlocked, lights on and window open.
All the people the parents could think of that have visited the home recently have been cleared by the FBI. So I assume all family members and neighbours have too?
All this leads to it either being a stranger abduction who chose the "perfect" night to do it, or the parent(s) are involved.
Is that a fair overview?

I wonder why the father automatically assumed the baby had been snatched before checking the house? The baby could have been in bed with her mum.

Good post The Truth Will Out and let's hope that it will in this case and another one closer to home!
I've been reading about another missing child in West Virginia for nearly two weeks - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Very sad looking little mite; from what I've read elsewhere, the family sounds like a cross between that of Shannon Matthews and Kiesha Abrahams, the Australian girl who also supposedly disappeared from her bedroom but whose mother and stepfather have been accused of killing.

'You did it,' police tell mom of missing Kansas City, baby
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The mother of a 10-month-old girl who went missing from their Kansas City home said police told her she failed a lie detector test and accused her of being involved in her baby's disappearance.
Deborah Bradley said Friday that police never showed her the results of the test and denied knowing anything about what happened to her daughter, Lisa Irwin. Bradley and the baby's father, Jeremy Irwin, say Lisa was abducted from her crib late Monday or early Tuesday.
"They said I failed (a polygraph test)," Bradley, 25, told the Associated Press. "And I continued to say that's not possible because I don't know where she's at and I did not do this."
Irwin, 28, said he also offered to take a test but that police said that was not necessary.
Kansas City police spokesman Steve Young declined to comment Thursday on whether the parents have been tested, citing the ongoing investigation.
Bradley and Irwin, both dressed in jeans and sweatshirts, held hands and teared up several times during the 20-minute interview. They reiterated that their main focus "is to bring Lisa home."
"We need her. We have to have her. She's our link that ties everybody together," Irwin said.
They said police have treated them like suspects and that Bradley in particular has been preparing for the possibility of charges being filed against her.
The mother said detectives told her: "'You did it. You did it. And we have nothing.'"
Irwin, an electrician,
"The main problem I think that we're facing is that everybody (else) has an alibi," Irwin said. "I was at work. I've been cleared. All these other people we were worried about ... the FBI said they've been cleared. The only one you can't clear is the mother that's at home when it happens 'cause there's nobody else there."
On Thursday, police told reporters that Bradley and Irwin were no longer cooperating with authorities in their investigations, but the family later released a statement insisting they had never stopped

Lisa Irwin update: Bizarre twists in missing Missouri baby case
Isabelle Zehnder
Missing Persons Examiner
October 8, 2011
KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Isabelle Zehnder reporting) -- The case of missing 10-month old Missouri baby Lisa Irwin has taken bizarre twists Thursday and Friday.
Events over the past two days have greatly changed public opinion about the couple who says their baby was snatched from their Kansas City, Missouri home earlier in the week. Slideshow: Photos of Lisa.
On Friday, Marc Klaas, Founder of Klaas Kids Foundation for Children, wrote a blog post entitled The Strange Case of Baby Lisa saying he believes baby Lisa’s case has deteriorated due to some terrible choices her parents have made over the past 24-hours.
They have focused the attention back upon themselves, he said, and raised questions about their intent.
Couple stops talking, tempers flare
It was reported that Lisa’s distraught father, Jeremy Irwin, was seen leaving a police station Thursday afternoon. Questions arose as to why Lisa’s mother, Deborah “Debbi” Bradley didn’t leave with him.
It was later reported that the reason Jeremy left the police station was because he was tired and didn’t like the way police were handling their questioning.
Things seemed to spiral downhill from there.
At around 7 p.m. Thursday evening, the couple was scheduled to speak at a news conference. Shortly after they arrived they were called away to a wooded area near their home that had previously been searched, and that police were searching again.
Reporters said that once the parents arrived at the search scene voices were raised, arms were flailing, and the couple once again sped away in a nearby vehicle.
Police say parents no longer cooperating
Shortly after the confrontation Kansas City Police spokesman Steve Young announced the baby’s father, Jeremy Irwin, and her mother Debbi were no longer cooperating with police.
Within the hour the police command post shut down and police tape was removed from around the Irwin/Bradley home.
Police say those events had nothing to do with their announcement that Lisa’s parents were no longer cooperating with them. It was simply a matter of not needing to be there any longer.
Family says parents are fully cooperating with police
One of Lisa’s aunts, acting as a spokesperson for Lisa’s parents, quickly fired back. She issued a public statement about an hour later Thursday evening saying that Lisa’s parents never stopped cooperating with police and promising further statements from the parents Friday.
Parents allegedly hire lawyer, make deal with national news network
Just after the aunt’s statement media met up with Lisa’s great-grandparents who said Jeremy and Debbi had hired a lawyer and that they’d made a deal with a national news network. He said the couple would no longer be speaking with local media.
Shortly after learning the couple was no longer being cooperative with police Debbi admitted she failed a polygraph test and that police were blaming her for Lisa’s disappearance. She too has had enough.
On Friday the couple’s family said that Jeremy and Debbi spent Friday in a hotel getting much needed rest. Reports indicate they have not slept in their home since their baby disappeared.
Reports mother treated as primary suspect
Fox News reported Friday that law enforcement officials say Debbi is being treated as the primary suspect in her daughter’s disappearance. Police have not confirmed any named suspects in the case.
“Our local affiliate is now reporting that law enforcement says that mother, Debbi, failed miserably that lie detector test and started sweating, this according to the police, when they informed her of it.”
Police would not discuss the results of the polygraph test.
Jeremy told Fox News he was at work so he was cleared, and that the others they’d worried about were also cleared. The only person who hasn’t been cleared, he said, is his fiancée Debbi.
Landfill searched, family questions police tactics
Lerette said the family is also watching developments in the search of a Johnson County landfill that took place Friday. News reports indicated it did not appear police took anything from the landfill when they concluded their search.
Lerette said the family was taking Friday to catch up on sleep after a very stressful week.
Debbi's grandfather, David Netz, Sr., said the couple objected to police-questioning tactics. Tactics that KMBC news anchor said are commonplace in most cases, including traffic infractions.
The tactic – question one parent, then bring the other parent in for questioning to see if there are any inconsistencies in their stories. If they find inconsistencies, then they continue with questioning to see if they find more inconsistencies.
Possible California lead
The latest news came Friday evening that the FBI is looking at surveillance video of a couple in California who were seen with a very young child, KMBC reports.
The news didn’t come from police – it came from a relative of Lisa’s parents, Mike Lerette.
Father said to be void of emotion, robot-like
While Lisa’s mother sobs during most interviews, it has been said her live-in boyfriend/fiancé appears to lack emotion and is robot-like in his responses.
Jeremy rarely looks up at the camera. Maybe he’s camera shy. Regardless, his inability to show any emotion – outside of the occasional sniffle that some say seems phony – has caused people to doubt his credibility and his story.
“For me, it’s pretty much sealed the deal,” said Janelle Wright, who follows missing persons’ cases and has followed Lisa’s case from day one. “He shows no emotion, doesn’t look into the camera, and seems to be reading half the time. I just can’t imagine a guy not falling apart at the thought he’s lost his beautiful baby girl. He’s either scared of the camera, in shock, strong as nails, or is guilty of something.”
“As for the mom,” Janelle said. “She could be genuinely afraid for her baby or she could be showing signs of guilt and anguish if she was involved in her daughter’s disappearance, or if she knows what happened to her baby.”
Statement analysis
Statement Analyst Peter Hyatt analyzed an interview Lisa’s parents gave to KMBC on Oct. 6 transcribed by this National Missing Persons news writer.
In his analysis of the parents’ interview Peter points out that at no time during that interview did either parent speak Lisa’s name.
He said that abusive parents avoid using the child’s first name, often using the proper name less than 10 percent of the time and leaning towards pronouns. Innocent parents, he said, use the proper name often and include nicknames and terms of endearment.
He said that they will often, over time, move away from using the child’s name and often overuse “we” as if to share guilt.Parents' interview.
Peter also stressed that Debbi didn’t say, “I put her to bed” but instead said “I put her to sleep,” which he said could prove to be critical later. Peter's full analysis of the October 6 interview.
Deborah said during an interview with ABC News’ Kansas City affiliate KMBC, “I gave her her bottle and put her to sleep, and that was when we last saw her.”
Peter states that the change in pronoun from “I”, first person, to “we” is indicated as sensitive and said he would have expected the mother to speak personally as she was the one who “put her to sleep.”
Peter further states that the change from “I” to “we” used here is likely an indication not only of deception, but that both parents were involved in concealment. Peter's analysis of the KMBC interview.
Peter's conclusion:
Lisa’s mother is deceptive.
Lisa's mother knows what happened to her baby girl.
Both Lisa's mother and father are involved.
* Permission obtained to share Peter's opinions on this case.
Lisa is described as:
An adorable white, blonde hair, blue eyed baby girl.
She is 30 inches tall and was last seen wearing purple shorts and a purple shirt with kittens on it.
Lisa has two bottom teeth, a small bug bite under her left ear, and a beauty mark on her right outer thigh. She had a cold and cough before she went missing.
It is important to note that if Lisa was kidnapped her appearance has likely changed. She could be dressed like a boy and wearing a hat. It is important to look at her facial features and to note identifying features such as the beauty mark on her thigh.

Sadly it is not looking good in this case.
I also find it interesting that police have questioned a teen neighbour who had the access code to the parents garage but have also took a DNA sample from her, which I thought was unusual.
I am also amazed (though maybe I shouldn't be!) that this 10 month old baby was 30 inches long/tall. 6 inches shorter than the claimed height of a nigh on 4 year old Maddie.
Here is a link to an article that talks about the chances of a stranger abduction: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Stats:
278 young infants abducted since 1983
Only 13 taken from a home by a stranger
Only 1 of the 13 came to harm
The scariest stat though is the 1500 infants (most under 1) are killed by a parent each year.

The parents are establishing a fund.

>>> The latest on the desperate for the latest search for baby lisa irwin. Tomorrow marks one week since the girl vanished from her kansas city home. Jay Gray is live in kansas city with the latest. Jay, what's happening there?
>> Reporter: good to talk to you, Lester. Police spent more than five hours here after getting permission from lisa 's parents to search the property literally from top to bottom. Crime scene investigators returned to lisa irwin's home late Saturday, for the second day in a row, scanning the yard with metal detectors, digging through leaves, sifting through bushes and moving inside the home for a closer look. Detectives shifting kids' toys, taking boxes from shelves and focusing for several minutes on the front door. After more than an hour, firefighters joined in the search. providing ladders so investigators could climb through the roof to comb through storm gutters and peer into vents. Police worked until late into the night, during what was by far the most intense and longest search since the 10-month-old was allegedly pulled from her crib.
>> No tip led to this. We're doing everything we can, and any time another idea comes up, we'll give it a shot and this is a result of that.
>> Reporter: detectives did take at least one bag of evidence from the house. They won't say what they found, though the search apparently did reveal a shift in what police had called a strained relationship between investigators and lisa's parents.
>> This afternoon, the family sat down with detectives, their house, their child, they live here. Who knows more about who has come and gone from this home than they do? They need to be part of this investigation.
>> Reporter: an investigation that after five full days according to police, has failed to provide any solid leads, clear suspects, or substantial evidence.
>> We've tracked down well -around 250 leads and tips, checked out the ones we can so far, nothing has really led to anything.
>> Reporter: and as investigators finally pulled away late Saturday night, an uneasy silence returned to this neighborhood, a quiet that's become hauntingly familiar since baby lisa disappeared. And while lisa 's parents are, again, speaking with investigators, they did not talk to the media on saturday.
>> A cousin says they spent most of the day working to establish a fund that will create a reward for any information that might help them find their little girl. Lester.

And here's an early report on the other missing child from the U.S., Aaliyah Lumsford; once again, the story doesn't quite ring true:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Can you imagine what it would be like to go into your child’s bedroom to wake them only to find them gone and you can’t find them anywhere? Well this is what happened Saturday morning to Lena Lunsford according to reports.
CNN reports that apparently Aliayah had been sick the night before and her mother entered her room around 9 or 9:30 that morning to check her temperature and found the little 3 year old gone.
Lena told police that she and her 9 year old daughter saw Aliayah in her bed around 6:00 that morning.
Lena’s husband, Aliayah’s stepfather, had already left for work at that time. Lena jumped into her car and drove around looking for her daughter, and reports are that she even ran out of gas while looking. She called the police and reported her daughter missing around 11:30. By the end of the day there were about 100 volunteers along with the police out searching for the little girl and they still haven’t found her.
Aliayah was last seen wearing her pajama bottoms with the cartoon character Dora on it and a pink princess sweatshirt. She is about 3 feet tall and she weighs about 35 pounds. She has brown eyes and brown hair. Her ears are pierced and four front teeth are missing.
Aliayah lived in the family home in Weston, West Virginia along with her parents and 4 other children. Her mother is pregnant now with twins. Police say there are no signs of forced entry of the home. They say there is a screen door which doesn’t have a handle and there is a regular door that doesn’t shut very well. State Police Sgt. C.N. Alton said that the other siblings were all home at the time and the whole family is being very cooperative with the investigators.
Aliayah’s relatives say she is a shy little girl and she doesn’t speak to strangers. “She never leaves the house unless an adult is with her,” said grandmother Joann Evans. “She wouldn’t have come out in the yard, or the road for that matter, without her mother.”
The Lewis County Sheriff’s Department is asking that anyone with any information about what has happened to this little girl to please call 304-269-8245.
My prayers are with this family. I pray that God will lead them to their daughter and that she will be alive and well.

Parents allegedly hire lawyer, make deal with national news network
They must have heard of Madeleine's case so perhaps they're trying to emulate the mccanns.
If they'd set up "Find Lisa Fund" (as speculated) then it's eerily similar to the mccanns.
This happened in their home country and since they're neither rich middle class nor doctors they wont be able to pull the strings of the rich and influential or the politicians for that matter.
It does not bode well for Lisa. Also, going by statistics, baby Lisa's age is rarely taken from home by total stranger b/c there's no apparent reason or motive for stranger to do that. If her parents werent involved then her other carer or babysitter needs to be looked at.
Peter Hyatt, behaviourial analyst or is it speech analyst who concluded a damning verdict for Lisa's parents should be invited to study the mccanns. He will have a field day since the mccanns had given so many interviews.

Police officer gets stuck in window during re-enactment of Baby Lisa kidnapping - casting new doubt on parents' story
A police re-enactment in the Baby Lisa case today raised scepticism about her parents’ claims that the child was plucked from her crib by an unknown abductor in the middle of the night.
The operation proved difficult for two officers acting as a potential kidnapper, as each had difficulty getting into the home and needed help from other investigators.
One officer got his legs caught in the window after it suddenly slammed closed while he was climbing in.

Missing Baby Lisa: Police Search Nearby Abandoned Well
The search for missing 10-month-old Lisa Irwin entered its second week today with Kansas City police searching the well of an abandoned house near the girl's home.
More than a dozen investigators and firefighters crowded around an opening created in the old wooden deck to access the well. A yellow and red tripod was set up to lower firefighters into the well.
The street in front of the house has been closed off and is filled with police and fire vehicles.

Now they have hired "Bill “Wild Bill” Stanton, a former New York policeman who has served as an ABC News and NBC News security consultant,"
Bill “Wild Bill” Stanton, a former New York policeman who has served as an ABC News and NBC News security consultant, told reporters that he’ll be conducting an independent investigation, but added that he hopes to meet with police.
“I’m here to seek the truth,” Stanton told reporters during a briefing late Tuesday. “And wherever the truth leads, that’s where I’m going to go.”
Police did not immediately comment on the news about Stanton.
“We know she’s out there, and we know what the obvious focus is,” Stanton said. “We want to expand that focus.”

This is really not looking good for little baby Lisa.
Thank goodness for people like Stanton.
A nationally known private investigator is now working with Lisa Irwin’s family to find the missing infant, who disappeared more than a week ago.
Kansas City police will welcome any tips or information that Stanton can provide, but he won’t have access to the case file or any sensitive information in the case, a department spokeswoman said.
Stanton said his focus is on finding the little girl.
“We know she’s out there, and we know what the obvious focus is,” he said. “We want to expand that focus.”
Stanton’s statement followed an unsuccessful search by police earlier Tuesday at a vacant Northland home near the Irwin residence. Investigators focused on a 40-foot-deep well.
Police spokeswoman Sgt. Stacey Graves said the well was drained and nothing was recovered. She said investigators would continue to follow up on tips
In other developments Tuesday, Lisa’s aunt announced on a national news show that the family expected police to charge Lisa’s mother in the case. The aunt later toned down that statement.

So Stanton is not a bogus private detective out to obfuscate matters then....... unlike the mccanns' PIs?
It seems these days people have no trust in Police and seem to have ready money to hire PIs - bit strange to me that.

Actually I have read that he is more of a "Celebrity PI" mainly working as a "security consultant" for ABC and other news channels. He is from NYC so doesn't have a PI certificate for Kansas so the police will share no more with him than with you or I. He is being paid by a "wealthy family" with some connections to but not family of the Irwins.
Personally I think he is a total waste of time and no better than any of the McCanns detectives (I hope to be proved wrong though).
This case is shaping up like the McCanns. The Irwins said that the "abductor" got in through the window and the FBI now say most unlikely if not downright impossible.

Why is it in nearly every child missing case there is always a wealthy supporter willing to finance non qualified PI to interfere with Police investigation. What is the whole point when the police wont recognise the work of the PI or work with the PI? More to the point what can a PI without any credential or experience do that the Police can't?
These wealthy supporter just want to promote their name more like. It's baffling rich people mentality these days...they have more money than sense and too much time on their hands - that the trouble. If not that, then some idiots claiming to be experts will come along to criticise Police or prosecutor handling of forensics evidence and get the perpetrator off.
