I've tried Googling the Missing People bash and only got this forum - FIRST on the list (brilliant) but no media column to look up.

Can someone tell me what the celebrity auction was auctioning?

Seriously, what was physically being auctioned? was it really to auction a firework? Have things sunk so low?

£100,000 raised by a few celebs sponsoring a 'light a firework' campaign?

I was being facetious - of course!  I think your edit says all.

I can tell you that X-factor stars G4 (never heard of 'em) performed at the bash and in addition donated an auction package of VIP tickets to their Christmas By Candlelight concert in London - and wait for it - Hugh Grant was there !

Sounds to me on a par with the celebrity bash held at Branson's Kensington Gardens venue in days of yore.  Another publicity stunt to sing the praises of St. Katherine?

No can do!  Came across the G4 thing indirectly.  Wouldn't dream of saying anything bad about Trevor McDonald - he's safe with me.  Providing he's cautious about the company he keeps.

I thank you - don't know anything about X-Factor so just googled youtube for a listen, I'm quite impressed.  Not overkeen on contemporary opera but have to admit their rendition of Puccini's Nessun Dorma's pretty good as is their version of Bohemian Rapsody.  The front man even sounds a bit like Freddie Mercury.

Certainly makes a change from the usual mainstream boy band pop claptrap.  That's naturally just my opinion.

'Spent valuable time with the frontline team' - it's her bloody job (for which she is paid handsomely) to know what's going on in her organisation. Tweeting drivel that she has spent time anywhere within her organisation is beyond comprehension. As for this time being 'valuable' is really taking the michael and smacks of examining the ranks.

Publishing some real facts and figures on this charity's achievements seems beyond their capability. The amount of missing people fluctuates dependent upon where they stand at any given moment. The latest is 140,000 people under the age of 18 go missing in UK each year. There is nothing, I repeat, nothing on their website that gives any breakdown/verifies these figures.

This charity has recently rolled out a pilot project for some form of aftercare (in North Wales) and continues to have its feet snugly under the table with the UK Police.

It's my opinion that this charity is nothing but a quango in disguise.

National charity Missing People begins a series of events at police forces across Wales today to launch a pilot service that supports returned missing persons and their families.
Missing People has over 20 years’ experience providing emotional and practical support through its helpline, 116 000, to many of the 14,630 people who go missing each year in Wales and their families. The charity is now launching its innovative new “Aftercare” service at the events, beginning with Dyfed Powys Police Headquarters in Carmarthen today. Aftercare is a free service delivered by telephone, SMS and email to support missing people and their families in the months following the missing person’s return.
Funded by a grant from Big Lottery Wales, Aftercare offers non-judgemental, confidential support after a missing episode and the opportunity to discuss the reasons behind a disappearance, aiming to reduce the frequency and duration of future missing episodes. A missing episode is often the first indication of a problem and the Aftercare service will identify the help needed by the formerly missing person whilst supporting families who may be struggling to reconnect.
The service is to be rolled out across Wales with a view to it being established in the rest of the UK, and can be delivered in Welsh through a language line service.
Karen Robinson, Head of Partnerships and Development at Missing People, says “For years, people who go missing and their families have told us that when someone is found a new challenge begins. The charity Missing People has responded to this by developing an Aftercare service, designed to continue our support in to the next difficult weeks and months in the family’s life. We are delighted to have received funding from Big Lottery Wales to fill this gap in service for some of the most vulnerable people in society”
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Cockwell at Dyfed Powys Police says “The Aftercare Service provided by Missing People will provide much needed support to missing persons and their family when they return from home. There are many issues that the family may need to resolve and the ability for police forces to refer a case to this service will provide the family with an opportunity to obtain support and advice from a non-statutory agency, in a safe environment. Llandrundod Wells must be a real hotbed of people going missing then, alongside Carmarthen....oh these are bi-lingual locations and you're going to have to work bloody hard to get a grant from anything Welsh unless you throw in the language...

ETA: of the claimed 14,360 people who go missing each year in Wales how many of those do you think will benefit from a telephone service?

Public bodies are legally bound to provide English and Welsh versions of documents.
