Much of this late surge appears to result from Richard Hall's reminder to his followers in his latest 'round robin' email - thank you Richard
There are a total of 2,909 petitions on the Prime Minister's website and this petition on Operation Grange has climbed up to 241st position - thank you again to every one who has taken the trouble to sign.

Getting close to 2,800 signatures now. Maybe there will be a surge of signatures in the final week Verdi. I hope so.

A long way to go I fear - sadly I don't think it will reach the required target. Would it help if we shout?melisande wrote:Getting close to 2,800 signatures now. Maybe there will be a surge of signatures in the final week Verdi. I hope so.

No, doubtful it will reach anywhere near it's target. It's sadly tailed off now with only a handful of signatures in the last few days. Shame that. :-(Verdi wrote:A long way to go I fear - sadly I don't think it will reach the required target. Would it help if we shout?melisande wrote:Getting close to 2,800 signatures now. The lack of interest perhaps could be partly due to the negative comments circulating about the petition. It seems that some people are determined to destroy it's purpose (shooting the messenger?) by ridiculous claims such as it's interferring with a live investigation and/or preventing a fair trial should the case ever reach a court of law (splutter!). Unfortunately, as this case alone has shown time and time again, some people can't think for themselves so are easily manipulated.
It's obviously been widely read, if nothing else at least it may have raised a few eyebrows on the subject.

I would have thought everyone would have got together and made it work considering the purpose for the last 9 years was to get justice for a 3 year old girl and for that reason , I don't understand the in-fighting between members on various sites. Grouping together regardless of feelings about individual members would have been the ideal opportunity to get it out there and be seen as a serious group and not just a handful of 'trolls' , 'nutters' and McCann haters. For me, the petition wasn't just about getting the government to provide details of how and where the £12 million plus was spent, I hoped that it would show that there are tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people who are now ready to start questioning what has been going on since the day Madeleine went missing. At the end of the day there will always be strength in numbers.

How I wish that were true, alas the past nine years has proved to be the contrary. For many people I believe this is but a game to fill the empty hours or a massive ego trip for the feigned "I've read the files from beginning to end many times and I'm expert on all aspects of science, forensics, specialist dogs, policing, law, health care, media, international protocol, statistics, child welfare - and I can cook a mean bubble and squeak".melisande wrote:I would have thought everyone would have got together and made it work considering the purpose for the last 9 years was to get justice for a 3 year old girl and for that reason , I don't understand the in-fighting between members on various sites. As you know, one only need look at the vile abuse heaped on this forum alone to realize that different questionable priorities are abound. I find it difficult to ignore but I guess counter attack is not productive, however strong the temptation to strike back.
I have to say, those behind the administration of this forum have the unenviable task of keeping the forum clean, so to speak. You can't stop people trying to destroy the forum from the outside but at least from within members can stand united in the quest for justice for little Madeleine McCann (even if we can't agree on every point), the little girl who is so frequently forgotten in the quagmire of the power crazy.
So sad - even now the name Madeleine McCann is but a commodity.

The map below shows where people have been signing the petition..
The grey areas are constituencies where not one person has yet signed. There are not many of those left.
Otherwise the darker the colour, the more peopel have signed, up to a maximum of 18 in the constituency of Halton.

In the last 6 days another 127 have added their names, taking the total number of signatories to 2,927.Keitei wrote:We have a nice round figure of 2,800 signatures tonight.
With the news of Goncalo Amaral's clear victory in the Portuguese Court of Appeal yesterday, the petition has suddenly become even more relevant.
More and more voices are questioning almost everything about the case, and Monday's claims by the Met Police that they had 'reasonable lines of enquiry' showing that 'Madeleine may still be alive' convinced absolutely no-one. Especially since the previous DCI, Redwood, had told a press briefing that Madeleine 'may have been dead before she left the apartment'.
Many people may have trusted Scotland Yard at the beginning of Operation Grange. Hardly a soul does these days.
So please - with just two clear days left to collect more signatures - do all you reasonably can to help swell the numbers so that the powers-that-be recognise the degree of concern about this very strange investigation.
Thanks!

With one day to go, the total stands at 3,031 signatures which has helped it to rise to 221st position out of 2,903 petitions currently on the PM's website.
+++++++++++++++
SECOND MADELEINE MCCANN PETITION
I should add that ANOTHER Madeleine McCann petition has been launched.
Someone called 'Scott Fisher' began a petition on 15 February which simply calls on the government to stop funding the search for Madeleine.
So far it has attracted 32 signatures. I think he might be from the Isle of Wight as 7 out of the 32 signatures come from that constituency.
Here is the link to that petition if anyone wants to sign it:

Re: [Petition closed, with 3,111 signatures] MADELEINE MCCANN PETITION ON PM's WEBSITE CALLING FOR A FULL REPORT FROM OPERATION GRANGE
Yesterday nearly 100 more signed, bringing the final total to 3,111.
Thank you once again to everyone who signed it and especially all those who actively promoted it in one way or another.
I will hand in the petition result and a covering letter at 10 Downing Street next Friday. A new thread to discuss this has been opened up here:
