Britain quietly pays up 1.7bn EU bill once described as 'unacceptable' by Cameron

Cameron attacked the charge as 'unacceptable' when it was announced by the European Commission
The Prime Minister originally flatly refused to stump up for the charge, which was a tax on Britain's positive economic performance, when the EU told him last year he had weeks to settle.

But the European Commission has now confirmed Cameron paid the fee in two instalments post-general election.

The second of these came at the beginning of this month.

Speaking last October after the EU had told him he had until December to pay up the £1.7bn he said: "This is completely unacceptable.

For Cameron to label this bill as appalling and completely unacceptable and yet pay it in full shows the sort of politics the man is willing to deal in
Jonathan Arnott, UKIP

"It is an unacceptable way for this organisation to work - to suddenly present a bill like this for such a vast sum of money with so little time to pay it.
"And it is an unacceptable way to treat one of the biggest contributors to the European Union.

It never ceases to amaze me that Germany is the powerhouse of Europe. This is a country whose leadership and many of its people exterminated 6 million Jews in the most atrocious, inhumane and evil way. It's incredible, just bloody incredible that this same nation's government not so many years along is welcoming muslims with open arms and flooding Europe with the last thing it needs - Islam.

I would wager if indigenous UK citizens were offered the opportunity to brick up the Channel Tunnel they'd be there in a heartbeat (and I'm not talking radical idiot groups such as the BNP or EDL) carting their own bricks, mortar, portaloos, skips, tents, food supplies etc.

There is no more room for Islam in UK. I'm sick to the back teeth of bleeding heart liberals.

When will a politician have the courage to say 'close the borders'. It's happening in Croatia, it's happening in Hungary.

Let Islamic countries take their responsibility to look after their own.

Cameron's government slipping in a quiet payment after all the bullshit bravado is to be expected.

Word War II.

Germany and Japan got aid to rebuild.

Britain got none. Britain instead had debt to pay off for decades.

And the end of the British Empire and rise of the American Empire.

One of the multi-purposes of the war.

It's about time someone knocked Germany off its perch.
