Finally PROOF private parking firms ARE scamming motorists! Wardens are sacked for doctoring timings on photos meaning legally parked cars were hit with fines

  • Dozens of drivers have been wrongly fined at car parks run by UKPC

  • Neil Horton was given ticket after 15 minutes, despite being allowed 90

  • He claims photos were altered to suggest he was at the site for two hours

  • Police fraud squad and parking trade body have launched probe into UKPC

  • UKPC said the 'staff implicated are no longer working' for the company

  • Have you experienced a similar parking discrepancy? E-mail steph.cockroft@mailonline.co.uk or phone 02036151786

Driver Neil Horton claims he was given a ticket after parking his car in a UKPC site for just 15 minutes. Photographic evidence suggested he left his vehicle at the site for almost two hours but Mr Horton believes the images were taken at the same time as they both feature the same car in the background with its boot open

To be succinct, my opinion is that this photo was more likely taken on the 28th April, very soon after arrival at the resort.
I know that PeterMac and others think the Sunday fits better, but I respectfully disagree on that point. smilie
@ Lance de Boils

It would be interesting to know your reasoning. Maybe you have given your reasons before.

If you think the Last Photo was taken on the Saturday, you will have these issues to address:

1. The 'Last Photo' shows extremely short shadows consistent with the photo having been taken when the sun was at its very highest - which was 1.35pm that time of year in Portugal

2. Bearing in mind the flight to Faro and then the transit to the Ocean Club, plus being shown to their room etc., I think it was around 3pm when they checked into their actual apartment. The shadows on people would already be lengthening by then, always assuming that the whole McCann family immediately dashed to the pool instantly they arrived at their apartment (unlikely - surely there was a short period for some unpacking?)

3. As I think PeterMac has shown, the weather on Sunday and Monday was warmer and sunnier than on the Saturday. Kate McCann refers to a 'cool breeze' on the Saturday ('madeleine', page 47, hardback edition). For that reason, Sunday (or Monday) is a better 'fit' than Saturday

4. The three 'playground' photos were I think by common consent on the forum taken in the late afternoon/early evening of the Saturday (long shadows). Madeleine in those photos is wearing clothes the same as, or remarkably similar to, the ones she was wearing (a) in the airport bus and (b) when filmed climbing up the aircraft steps. BUT, in the 'Last Photo', she is wearing a pretty pink dress - quite different, therefore, from what she was wearing on the airport bus, on the plane, and when playing in the playground. You would need to explain, therefore, why she's in red trousers on the bus, and then the plane, the McCanns than change her into a pink dress by the pool, and then change her back into her red trousers again when she goes back to the playground. The apparent change of clothes which would have occurred during Saturday, according to your hypothesis, seems most unlikely.

Could you please return and explain why you think the photo was taken on the Saturday, and if so could you please deal with all the above 4 points?

TIA

Hi Tony.
As promised.

1. I looked at shadows charts etc. I haven't got them to hand (on a different pc), but I've probably posted them before. There's a period of say 4 hours, when the sun is at its highest, when the shadows hardly vary at all, in both length and direction. I remember looking at it and realising that it'd be nigh on impossible to tell the difference between say 1.45pm and 3.45pm. The difference in shadow lengths and directions are much more easily distinguished earlier and later in the day, but a couple of hours either side of the sun's highest point are very difficult to distinguish. If I get time, I'll try and find the particular chart I looked at before which led me to this conclusion.

2. Partly answered above.
Re arriving and unpacking, I'd suggest that Gerry, Kate, 3 kids and luggage arrived at 3ish. Kids very excited, wanting to see the pool etc. Quick change into shorts for Gerry, then he takes the kids out of the way to leave Kate in peace to unpack. So imo, not impossible for them to have been at the pool virtually straight after arrival. Re weather - I think it does fit with the Sat - I remember looking it all up before, but would need to refer to my other pc for more specifics. I do remember checking out the weather and seeing that either Sat or Sun were possible. I couldn't rule out one or the other.

3. As in 2.

4. Not sure. I'm not convinced by the playground pic at all. Perhaps Madeleine was so desperate to wear her new dress, that she changed into it as soon as they arrived, when Gerry was changing into shorts, before getting the kids out from under Kate's feet. As I said, the playground pic seems rather anomalous, so I'm not taking that as proof of anything in particular.

Apart from anything else, it's Gerry's t-shirt. It's identical to the one he wore on the journey. Anyone who's flown anywhere will know that planes give your clothes a very distinctive, very unpleasant smell. I cannot believe that he would have put the same t-shirt back on the following day. In my mind, it makes much more sense that he just changed his jeans to shorts to take the kids down to the pool, and then showered/changed properly before dinner.

The other observation I'd like to make is that Gerry's hands show very prominent veins. This is a classic sign of having been on a flight very recently. The air pressure within a civil aircraft is usually equiv. to being at abt 8000ft altitude. This does cause some swelling, and it's particularly noticeable in hands and feet/ankles - veins tend to become more prominent. Also exacerbated by lugging suitcases around and being tired.

So, all things considered, whilst I wouldn't rule out Sunday as a possible day of the photo, in my mind, Saturday virtually straight after arrival (as explained above) is more likely.

Will that do ya? smilie

But where was Sean? Was he left with Kate? Who took the photo?

Kate? Since there is not a ghost around the swimming pool, just them.
Sean must be with Kate.

It's not inconceivable, imo, that because the kids were all excited to look around at the pool, and they were grumpy from being tired, K&G agreed to more or less dump their suitcases off and take the kids out for a while, then afterwards they could gets the kids fed, bathed and to bed, then get themselves ready for the evening meal out.

So, yes, it's possible that all 5 of them went out in this scenario.

I'm not saying you're wrong but such a pretty picture ( the girls all dressed up for a sunshine holiday ) surely would have included the twin brother  if Kate and he were in the vicinity? It could/ should have been a proper family portrait........................this  first/ last  photo.

So, yes, it's possible that all 5 of them went out in this scenario.

From the book . . .
We found the people carrier plus driver we’d pre-booked to meet us at Faro airport and arrived at the Ocean Club resort in the village of Praia da Luz at around three. After checking in we were driven over to our accommodation in a minibus by a Mark Warner rep.

We removed the cots and shoved the twin beds together. In the other room, we pushed the beds further apart, positioning each against a wall, to make room for the cots, which we placed in between them.
After reorganizing the sleeping arrangements and unpacking some essentials, we went down to the pool area at the back of the apartment to join the rest of the holiday group – Jane, Russell, Rachael and Matt and their kids had arrived a few hours ahead of us.

The weather was pleasant enough, although there was a cool breeze. It was still April, after all. As I am one of those people who really feel the cold (‘Get a bit of meat on yerself!’ my hardy Scottish in-laws are always telling me), when Madeleine immediately wanted me to go swimming with her, I was not exactly keen. But she was so excited about the pool. I took one look at her eager little face and went off to put on my costume. The water was absolutely freezing, but Madeleine was straight in there, even if her voice disappeared for a second or two with the shock of it. ‘Come on, Mummy!’ she called when she’d got her breath back. I tentatively inched my way in. ‘The things you do for your kids!’ I remember commenting to a dad lying on a sun-lounger with his two sons nearby, watching us. I told Madeleine to count to three and steeled myself. It was worth it – it will always be worth it – just to see her delight. Even if it did take us both the best part of three hours to warm up afterwards.
We were still shivering when we went off to a ‘welcome’ meeting with the Mark Warner team, who outlined the facilities and events on offer. We booked the children into the kids’ clubs, starting the next day. These provided a wide range of activities, both indoor and outdoor, that varied from day to day: swimming at the indoor pool, ‘ice-cream’ trips, boat rides at the beach, sandcastle-building, games like mini-tennis and the usual arts and crafts, singing and stories.

I reckon this takes the visit to the pool - if it happened  - at the absolute earliest around 4pm, then Kate has to go back to change - what was Madeleine wearing for this swim ? - which is all the way out of the pool area, up the road, through the FRONT DOOR - since she ways they started leaving the patio door open a bit later - (After the first couple of days we barely used the front door, coming and going through the patio doors and up and down the steps.)  and it is inconceivable that having just arrived, and been seen, by lurking swarthymen, arriving with all those bags, cameras, wallets, passports, they would then within an hour leave the whole place wide open . . .
then she has to locate and unpack a cossie, changing into it, put on shoes and find a towel or two, going out through the front door again through the car park, down the road, through the entrance, round the main pool . . .  This is measured in tens of minutes, and if she had Madeleine with her, also to change into a cossie, this could easily have taken a quarter of an hour.  Anyone with children will understand the logistics.
Or did they just chuck Madeleine into a freezing pool, on her own, in her day clothes ? She says they both took 3 HOURS to warm up. For an adult that it not good. For a tiny 3 yr old child is it cruelty and negligence and mis-treatment
The book is very clear that Madeleine was in the pool some time BEFORE Kate, which is also simply not acceptable, on any test, but another example of corporate negligence

We are up to half past 4.

even IF she had taken a camera pushed down the front of her bikini  it is too late for the Last Photo.
This is why I believe, given the available evidence above, and the weather data and the many other photos, that it was taken at lunchtime on Sunday.

Of course it is a story from the book, so it makes no sense anyway, and we can place absolutely no credence on it at all !

Taken from Gerry McCann witness statement - 10th May 2007

...having travelled immediately to the OCEAN CLUB in an airport mini-bus where he arrived at around 14h20/14h30...

That, on the first day, given that they arrived at lunch time, they ate only sandwiches both on the plane and on the bus during the journey from the airport to the OCEAN CLUB. After completing the check-in at the main reception, where they were dropped off by the mini-bus, which lasted until 15h00, they went to the apartment where they unpacked their bags, which lasted 16h45.

Subsequently, at around 17h00, the whole group, including children, went to the TAPAS restaurant, located at the back of the apartment, next to the pool, to attend a welcoming committee arranged by MARK WARNER, where they met the tennis and sailing instructors, and other resort employees, which ended at around 18h30, several glasses of sangria having been served to them.

After they passed through the secondary reception, they went to the TAPAS restaurant, next to one of the swimming pools, the adults having sat down in a covered area outside, while the children stayed next to the small pool playing on the playground that was there. That during this time all the adults stood up and went to watch the children near where they were. The deponent and his wife took turns watching.

When the reception committee was over, the nine adults and eight children walked to the MILLENIUM restaurant. They went back to the secondary reception, turned left and, at the top of the road, turned right, then left again, then right again, up to the main street that leads to the restaurant. Because it was a long way, at some point in time the deponent and his wife KATE had to carry the twins in their arms, but not MADELEINE, who was always on foot.

They arrived at their destination between 18h50 and 19h00, having sat at a large table where they all had dinner, including the children who were seated among the adults, never leaving the place, except for one of the twins who went to the toilet with the deponent. About an hour later they finished dinner, and returned, equally walking, by the same route, though going wrong in one of the streets where they should have turned left, ending up only turning only at the next street. He adds that, as they were all very tired they went directly to the apartment, where they arrived at around 20h10/20h15, the route back having been slightly faster given that the twins were carried all the way.

In the apartment, they bathed the children and gave them a glass of milk, putting them to bed at exactly 20h45, he remembers that time because it was exactly one hour later than their usual bedtime. After putting the children to bed, the deponent and his wife took a bath, then settled down in the living room to watch television. He points out that at the moment they arrived at the residence, David Payne invited them to go for a glass of wine after putting down the children, but they turned down the offer as they were extremely tired. He thinks that nobody left their apartments on the first night. Asked, he said that in England, when not on holiday, the deponent and his wife would go to bed at 22h30/23h00, the twins at 19h00 and MADELEINE at 19H30.
~~~~~~
Not much room for manoeuvre there I'm sure you will agree.
I hope no-one is deceived by the false comment above which suggests that the face in the picture in the centre (rined in red) is 'totally different' from the one on the right (the 'Last Photo').
It is not different. They are both exactly the same photo. Further, the headline: 'Madeleine: Different hairlenghs' very misleading.
The very blurry image in the centre is a still photo taken from the blurry video which has been re-uploaded by Joana Morais. It is therefore very blurry.
That might cause some peoplem at first glance, to think these the are two different images of Madeleine. A blurred image emphasises certain features e.g. shadows, but does not pick out much of the detail that we se on the very clear 'Last Photo'.
That these two images are exactly the same can be deduced from, inter alia:
* shadows underneath Madeleine's face - exactly the same position
* surface in the background - exactly the same
* wall in the background - exactly the same
* shape of the sun hat over Madeleine's forehead - exactly the same
* angle of Madeleine's head to her body - exactly the same
* position of Madeleine's left shoulder in relation to her mouth, ears etc. - exactly the same
* position where the left of her hat coincides with the top of the wall - exactly the same...
And so on.
We have successfully established on this forum, with the help of two world-class experts, that the Last Photo is a genuine photo - not tampered with except possibly for the date.
Petermac has expertly led a detailed discussion on the date this photo has taken and the balance of the argument on all the 'Last Photo' threads here has been quite clearly that there is strong evidence (a) that it was taken on Sunday and (b) that it was not taken on Thursday, as claimed.
Unfortunately, the comment above suggesting that the blurry photo is anything other than a blurry version of the Last Photo is distracting us, once again, from the true meaning of the Last Photo, and is in dnager of muddying waters which are now clear.
Richard D. Halls' Latest Documentary & The Last Photo
Post by Knitted on 25.02.16 0:57
For some time I've seen the Last Photo as one of the key 'Smoking Guns'. I think Richard's latest documentary has done a most thorough job in pulling together all the relevant information relating to that specific important topic and putting it into one single place.
Since the Last Photo attracts a disproportionate amount of misinformation and obfuscation (...just read the Bobbin's thread on this forum, locked by Admin back in November, to see what I mean) it is clear to me that it is indeed a forgery in that part of its EXIF Metadats, specifically its 'datestamp', has been altered to provide 'proof' that Madeleine was alive on the afternoon before her reported disappearance...and that certain people do not want this easy to grasp fact exposed
Therefore, if it's of any interest in moving future debates and discussions forward that relate to the specific topic of the Last Photo, I've taken some of the high-level bits from Richard's documentary and stuck them together into a 15min mini-video and popped it on YouTube, (along with links to this site, Richard's full documentary and the McCannfiles in the notes section).
So it was cloudy all week but didn't he just say that Gerry was well tanned by the end of it? Confused!
   Skin which has  previously  tanned  can quickly   develop the same when exposed.
@Knitted wrote:For some time I've seen the Last Photo as one of the key 'Smoking Guns'. I think Richard's latest documentary has done a most thorough job in pulling together all the relevant information relating to that specific important topic and putting it into one single place.
Since the Last Photo attracts a disproportionate amount of misinformation and obfuscation (...just read the Bobbin's thread on this forum, locked by Admin back in November, to see what I mean) it is clear to me that it is indeed a forgery in that part of its EXIF Metadats, specifically its 'datestamp', has been altered to provide 'proof' that Madeleine was alive on the afternoon before her reported disappearance...and that certain people do not want this easy to grasp fact exposed
You don't necessarily need to be in constant sunshine to develop a tan, he was after all said to be on the tennis courts for the most part of the week and the weather apparently improved towards the latter part of the week.  Not as though we're talking of a Reagan bottled permatan is it?
