Here we go! "Madeleine: Book Sheds Light On Mystery Predator"
Madeleine: Book Sheds Light On Mystery Predator
The intruder fled when he was caught in a villa close to the apartment from where three-year-old Madeleine disappeared in Portugal in 2007.
Author Anthony Summers told Sky News that a British mother answered her door to a stranger asking for donations to an orphanage.
"She soon realised he wasn't really looking at her, but was staring intently at her young daughter of three or four who standing at her side, holding on to her skirt.
A mystery sexual predator is being investigated by Scotland Yard
"She later saw that man watching her place during the afternoon. The next day she went upstairs to fetch something for a moment and as she started to come downstairs she saw what she thinks was the same man in the room where her child was and as soon as she started to come into the room he scarpered."
The woman was convinced the man intended to take her daughter and has been interviewed by Scotland Yard detectives investigating Madeleine's disappearance, said Mr Summers.
The incident in the Praia da Luz report is recounted in Looking For Madeleine, published next week, by Mr Summers and his co-author Robbyn Swan.
The authors spent two years studying Portuguese police files and British documents for what they claim is the first objective book on the Madeleine case. They did not interview Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry McCann.
Authors Robbyn Swan and Anthony Summers
The book also reveals how another intruder got into the bed of a young girl in the nearby resort of Carvoeiro three years earlier.
The man fled after the girl and her sister woke up and asked if he was their daddy or uncle, said Ms Swan.
She said: "What they noticed about this man was that he was wearing what seemed to be a surgical mask and he had wound laundry around his feet, seemingly to keep from making prints or leaving marks.
"He disappeared without interfering with the two girls."
A mystery sexual predator and three burglary suspects are the focus of the current Scotland Yard investigation.
The authors claim that the McCanns' holiday apartment, no 5a at the Ocean Club complex, was being watched in the days leading up to Madeleine's disappearance.
A man was seeing behaving oddly in a lane close to the McCanns' apartment
Ms Swan said: "Two separate witnesses apparently saw a man, whom both described as very ugly or with a spotty or pimply face, staring fixedly at apartment 5a. They both described him being in the same position in the street.
"That's combined with the fact that on the very day Madeleine disappeared, a lady visiting the apartment upstairs saw from her balcony a man behaving very oddly in the lane between the apartments and the pool.
"The man was going out of an adjacent gate, closing the gate repeatedly to see if it was creaky. He seemed to be looking around and generally acting very peculiarly before leaving."
Madeleine was nearly four when she vanished. She was sleeping in a room with her younger brother and sister in the apartment while her parents were dining with friends in the complex's poolside tapas bar nearby.
The McCanns said they had left the sliding patio door unlocked, while checking on the children every 30 minutes.
Kate and Gerry McCann were not interviewed for the book
The authors say that Mrs McCann has said she was told by the then British consul Bill Henderson that before Madeleine vanished he was aware of a spate of child sex assaults along the Algarve coast and had discussed it with holiday companies.
Mr Summers said: "Had there been a warning note in the apartment, do we think the McCanns would have left the patio door unlocked on the night they went to the other side of the pool to have dinner away from their children?
"One would be tempted to think they would make sure everything was firmly locked up."
The McCanns' tour operators Mark Warner Ltd said its policy was not to comment. The Foreign Office told the authors it had no information to give them.

Re: Here we go! "Madeleine: Book Sheds Light On Mystery Predator"
I wonder if the authors didn't interview Kate and Gerry out of choice, or because Kate and Gerry declined to be interviewed.
I also wonder if the authors interviewed any of the Tapas friends.
I wonder if this will just be a rehash of available news stories, rewritten in the authors' own words and packaged up to look like original writing.
It'll be interesting to see if there are any new revelations that we haven't seen before.

If the McCanns think they've got the 'look of contempt' down to a fine art, they need to take a look at the bloke in the background to the right of Gerry.
If that's not a 10/10, I don't know what is!

Did you ever hear such botlocks?
So... he's knocking on doors a few hours before on the prowl - so is an opportunist and has no advanced plan.
In that few hours he works out the McCann's open patio door checking rota, kills Madeleine and lets her lie there for 90 minutes so that cadaverine is produced then takes her away without leaving a trace he was there.
If this is the standard of the book it WILL BE RIPPED TO SHREDS by anyone who knows anything about this case.
Poor... very poor.
You wonder how they all sleep at night.

So we now know
The have not spoken to the McCanns
Mark Warner refused to speak to them
The ForeignOffice told them to 'walk away'
The bogus Charity collectors were on the files years ago
And from that in-depth investigation they can produce the definitive version ?
rather beginning to wish I had not pressed the "Purchase" button now !
But what it will do, if it is at the same level of gibbering incompetence as the bits we have seen so far, here and on the other thread
is to make it pellucid, to the entire world, the the story itself, right from the start, is and always was, total nonsense.

She didn't say anything about testing for creaking gates
CT'We were all seated on the terrace, hummm'talking, and I was inclined to look below and this is when I saw someone leave the apartment of the first floor, closing the gate very gently as they were leaving, opening and closing the gate with much caution and in silence. It appeared to me very strange. They looked to one side and the other, shut the gate and walked very quickly downwards

Maybe this person was testing to if the gate operated properly rather than a test for how much noise it made.

Re: Here we go! "Madeleine: Book Sheds Light On Mystery Predator"
‘Ms Swan said: "Two separate witnesses apparently saw’
‘Madeleine was nearly four when she vanished. She was sleeping in a room with her younger brother and sister in the apartment while her parents were dining with friends in the complex's poolside tapas bar nearby.’
‘The McCanns said they had left the sliding patio door unlocked, while checking on the children every 30 minutes.’
Assuming the reporting actually reflects what is in the book, it is interesting to see what is ‘surmise’ and what is ‘fact’.
‘Kate and Gerry McCann were not interviewed for the book’
‘The McCanns' tour operators Mark Warner Ltd said its policy was not to comment.
The Foreign Office told the authors it had no information to give them.’
So it looks to be even less ‘definitive’ than we imagined!!!
Got to agree with PeterMac about the purchase button mistake, but at least I got it for the special half-price offer at £10 before it’s even published.

Yes, so the poor, neglected children couldn't get out if there was a fire or other emergency......!!! Normal parents wouldn't have left their children at all, with or without a note, that's what "one would be tempted to think"!

Of all the things I have read about this case, this has got to be the most ridiculous statement ever. Now we need a note to tell us please do not leave your children alone, but if you are nipping out for a leisurely dinner with friends please lock them in.
So it's Mark Warners fault then, no signs in the apartment. Another one for Kate's list of who was at fault.

I doubt checks were carried out on any night. Are the McCanns going to come back to 5A from Chaplins on the Tuesday night every 30 minutes? No way.
They were too tight for a babysitter (wasn't it free at the OC?) and should have taken the children with them in buggies IMO.
I have read in USA legal cases where people have won cases coz the instruction manual didn't give a warning. Some were ridiculous cases. Here is a flavour of what I read....It is dangerous to open your car door at high speeds. People claimed that they should have been warned against doing that.

Very unlikely, jozi, as S&S are following the "Official Story" about the "poor, suffering" McCanns.
AFAIK other authors of similar books haven't been sued. I haven't read any of them, B4 anyone asks.

Re: Here we go! "Madeleine: Book Sheds Light On Mystery Predator"
The McCs are on record within the files meticulously studied by Summers & Swan as saying that they locked the apartment when they left it during the day, which they managed to do without any prompting from MW. From that an inference can be drawn that the McCs were indeed aware that their valuables or the property of the holiday company should not be left unsecured, as any theft resulting from such negligence would have been their own responsibility. In admitting that 5a was kept locked during the day when unoccupied, the McCs behaviour in leaving the apartment unlocked while absent in the evenings because "it felt so safe" would have been questionable even if had they not been leaving their children there into the bargain. If they genuinely believedSwannie wrote:"Mr Summers said: "Had there been a warning note in the apartment, do we think the McCanns would have left the patio door unlocked on the night they went to the other side of the pool to have dinner away from their children?

PDL was "so safe" their apartment could be left unsecured they would not have been locking up during the day when leaving. So it will be interesting to see whether the authors, apparently acclaimed for meticulous research, pick up on this particular nugget of information and if so, what they make of it.

So basically a book which outlines SY's ridiculous burglar / predator theory (all which the PJ had debunked) and is conveniently published in time for their last chance saloon visit to Portugal and the conclusion of the libel trial. I despair sometimes!

Well, kids don't come with instruction manuals. If two apparently qualified medics require a manual in order to know they should not leave three kids on their own, then they should not have kids. In fact if anybody on the planet needs a note to remind them, they should not have kids.
It's the blame culture and people failing to take responsibility for their own actions. The adults on that holiday were in charge, responsible for the welfare of their own children. Nobody else.
They may not have given an interview for this book to the authors, I have a feeling it was given the green light on their behalf though, prior to publication.

Do they think we're all stupid.
Have you ever heard of such a ridiculous BACKFILL excuse to explain away the fact that no stranger DNA was found in the apartment as :-
"What they noticed about this man was that he was wearing what seemed to be a surgical mask and he had wound laundry around his feet, seemingly to keep from making prints or leaving marks."

[quote="sami"]
And in England a woman has just gone to prison for LOCKING HER CHILD IN.
Whether you lock them in or leave them in an unlocked apartment the offence of neglect and abandonment is still there.
But this makes one assupmtion - and we bear in mind that the authors did not speak to the McCanns -
Do we really believe that
9 parents left
8 children for
5 nights ? ?

They could've handcuffed the kids to their beds so they didn't wander off in the night. They could still leave the doors unlocked because Portuguese burglers don't nick anything anyway.

We have to ask, why are they leaving out Kate and Gerry's testament to advents, would seem unlikely , and why would they need to leave them out. They know that the book would not be treated as credible because too many people just dont believe the Mcanns account , I suspect.

Re: Here we go! "Madeleine: Book Sheds Light On Mystery Predator"
I am in shock about the Mark Warner note-leaving quote. Firstly any responsible parent would not leave kids alone. Secondly, one might hope that if they then received a note about predatory paedophiles in the area they might decide to NOT GO OUT AT ALL, rather than securely locking the apartment. Disgusting. Can we assume from this that Summers and Swann are also child neglectors? How can any parent read this comment and it not at least arouse suspicion?
ETA in writing this I've just realised the massive quandary that the authors are in. They want to make it seem as if PDL was dangerous and this was a fact known to all, including MW and the PJ. They want to ascribe blame to these two parties and make it seem as if reports of 'very ugly' paedophiles were in abundance BEFORE Madeleine's disappearance because otherwise it is irrelevant and ridiculous back filling. However they can't do that without dropping the macs even further in it because if all this stuff was known then there's no way the kids should have been left alone. Hence the note that Mark Warner should have left

Re: Here we go! "Madeleine: Book Sheds Light On Mystery Predator"
Is THAT it?
geeeez.
jacqui hames, McCanns 'mate' at 'Hacked Off' on sky........................DISS THE SNIFFER DOGS!
I'd like to know if SHE ever 'used sniffer dogs' in ANY investigation she was involved with?
S&S....................DISS THE SNIFFER DOGS!
On the 'previous' attempt at 'abduction' (by PIMPLEMAN) the WEEK before: THAT would have been 'the talk of the resort' (and for WEEKS after) yet the McCanns AND their T7 mates 'never heard' and the McCanns left their three kids ALONE, in an UNLOCKED apartment, with an 'predatory abductor' on the LOOSE, the week before!
Oh please....................
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mrs McCann’s statement said: "While we were having breakfast, Madeleine said: 'Mummy, why didn’t you come when we were crying last night?’.
"Gerry and I spoke for a couple of minutes and agreed to keep a closer watch over the children."
-------------------------------------
"closer watch"?
Hmmmm.
Then BOTH of them promptly went out AGAIN, the very same night, to the tapas restaurant, leaving their THREE kids, ALONE, in an UNLOCKED apartment, OUT OF SIGHT of their kids!
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG????????
geeeez.

Re: Here we go! "Madeleine: Book Sheds Light On Mystery Predator"
I wonder if the book address's JG's statement in the press that the parents should be looked at first, kind of goes against the predator theory and actually makes the initial PJ suspicions spot on. What is the real purpose for this book and who's behind it?

Woofer"]Do they think we're all stupid.
[Wonder whether he brought the laundry with him or had to locate/raid the laundry basket first. The few minutes the abductor would have had to commit the crime according to the timelines just became incredibly busier, since he surely would not have arrived in what seemed like a surgical mask and laundry wound around his feet. Even though the evening was quiet it was only 9.15 and it's on record that there were people around, none of whom reported seeing this apparition. Attempting to link the M disappearance to the case above seems tenuous and seriously flawed.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/507849/Madeleine-McCann-hunt-slowed-by-court-chaos I think the media has been reporting similar stories. Does not look like it is going anywhere soon.
“This all means that Maddie is taking a low priority because all the effort is going on keeping the courts running. There is also a new prosecutor in Portimao on the Algarve who is having to be fully briefed on scores of cases, including Madeleine’s, and that all takes time. Wonder who is briefing the new prosecutor.
