Lance: Denny Laine was in the group Moody Blues (their best known song was "Go Now") but during the 1970s he was a member of Paul's group Wings.

So we can safely say that he didn't masquerade as Paul or we wouldn't have been able to see them together!

They are in fact from the accident which killed the Guinness heir Tara Browne (male despite the name) on 18th December 1966.

I do agree that some of the "post" Paul era photos do look a bit strange! I will look into this when I have more time.
