not sure re helicopter activity, but iirc Lagos is in the opposite direction to Burgau and Sagres.

Thanks RD.
"look there, not here"?
Sagres?
eta: search 'between PDL and Lagos' (east)
That WOULD include Kate's 'dream' cliff(s) then, wouldn't it?
Although Kate did NOT have a 'dream about cliff(s)' as GM forcefully told us outside the courtroom in Lisbon!

How does Tony Stewart know the search effort was wasted?

Not sure if you're being sarcastic but in any case, how where they to know what they'd find?

Clearly not a live Madeleine. Everyone in the world with more then three working brain cells knows knows that Madeleine died in apartment 5A on or before 3rd May 2007.jeanmonroe wrote:PMac:
WHAT are they actually extensively 'searching' for, in your opinion?
Obviously NOT a 'live' Madeleine.
It is not just a case of her not having been seen for so long - ( because if that were the case then the Fritzl scenario might apply - however unlikely.)
In this case we have not only the disappearance but the Positive evidence of TWO specialised dogs, each trained to locate different things.
So, as you observe, clearly not an alive Madeleine,
Edgar's ludicrous Hellish lairs are just that - Ludicrous fantasy, - assuming he actually believed it, though it is more likely that he was told to say it, and paid for doing so.
So what are they looking for ?
Short answer - I don't know know, though I can guess, or work it out.
As can anyone else.

They have found a hole . . . (wait for it . . .)
And the Police are "looking into it"

asked him, no reply yet. Josh Halliday recommended we read the tweets from TS's balcony in PdL after he left the town yesterday, so JH seems to trust him... I don't understand why the PJ didn't tell SY how new the drain was and if they did why SY would go ahead.

No one can accuse them of not being thorough.
Smithman could have been heading for the snail.
There seems to be a report of Smithman on a phone and this does not tie in with the Smith's statements. Was there another witness? I wonder where this was? Was he still holding Madeleine?
I wonder if soil samples were found in the Scenic boot and these tie in with the soil at the snail. Are they then from a temporary resting place or a final resting place?
I think they are looking for somewhere that was temporary or current hiding place for a body.
Does anyone have a link to an aerial picture of the snail area in 2007? Are there areas that are now built on?

Exactly so maybe they told them and they have good reasons to proceed with the dig.
I've read a recent tweet of Tony Stewart's and he says most Brit journos out in PdL are open-minded about the latest activity.

Think that is possible, I could be wrong but usually finger tip / forensic style searches are carried out on a sector by sector basis, this looks like they are acting on "specific intelligence" (an almost meaningless expression in this case) eg they have pin pointed areas, cordoned them off then searched only those areas in detail. Sure the dogs are there but if they wanted to corroborate anything they found then other material from elsewhere in the site could be invaluable. Doesn't look like that type of search, unless "Someone" (guess who??) has given incredibly accurate info on the whereabouts of certain item/s in which case I'd doubt that sort of search would be carried out under the full glare of the media.
I'd like to think they are acting on specific intelligence but going by their wide coverage areas, to include a couple more locations (maybe Lagos Rocha Negra area), it does not appear they were working on tip off; else you'd think the location would be narrowed down to one only.
The terrain at the snail scrubland must be more expansive than can be captured on camera, and sectors of finger tip search would be guided by geo radar or dogs showing interest in the sector or whatever, but they cant possibly be covering every sector square metre by square metre as it is too time consuming. It they are moving on to the next location it is a good indication they haven't located the "goods" so to speak.

Could this in anyway be linked to the items allegedly found by the roadside some years ago which were claimed to be possibly linked to Maddie's disappearance? I remember an Aztec design towel being mentioned.

A new thread starts itself automatically and this one locks automatically, nothing to do with mods.

Moving on to different locations would make sense if the police have information that Madeleine was initially hidden on the snail maybe in or close to the children's den then moved to a second and maybe third location. The discovery of the previously unknown den, with or without further forensic evidence, would add weight to the intelligence.
