WOW, British funded dig to include forensic archaeologist on the team.
The Forensic Archaeologist has probably been carefully selected to make sure they dig in area's where they are absolutely certain not to find anything. " alt="" title="">

Since Madeleine's DNA isn't exactly the cut and dried subject it might be, theirs could just be weasel words.

Thank you for the informative update.Mirage wrote:Google translation of article of 2 mins ago TVI 24. Site has a video report too. A backdrop of scrubland I believe. Will check Link given below.

Searches for Maddie authorized only on one land
PJ was on site to finalize details of the excavations in Praia da Luz, Lagos, advancing early next week
It is a TVI news...The arrangements are authorized for only one land
Everything is ready for the letter rogatory is fulfilled. It will be a vacant lot, along the road April 25. An extensive area, with work for several days .
'Smithman' was heavily featured in the CrimeWatch McCann Special on 14 October 2013. There was a reconstruction of the sighting. Mention of an irish family. Two e-fits which we were meant to think came from the Smiths.
This is how the Daily Express reported the CrimeWatch programme the following day:
"Mr Smith’s statement, written out by a Portuguese detective, says: “After leaving the bar he (Mr Smith) travelled in the opposite direction and reached a set of stairs which gave access to Rua 25 de Abril (25th of April Street), parallel to Rua 1 de Maio (1st of May street)".
So, 'Smithman' remains firmly in view, 7 months later, today.
Up until 14 October, we were looking for Tannerman.
Now we are not.
We are looking for 'Smithman'. Although, according to DCI Redwood and the Smiths, Tannerman, Crecheman and Smithman all look more or less identical. Quite a coincidence.
So their task is to find out who Smithman really was. (Assuming he ever really existed).
DCS Hamish Campbell, DCI Redwood's boss until June 2013, was in charge of the failed prosecution of Barry Bulsara where it looked as though a corrupt police officer may have placed a speck or two of firearms residue in Bulsara's coat pocket.
Only a few years earlier, DCS Hamish's former boss, DCS Brian Moore, the corrupt senior officer at the corrupt Stoke Newington police station, was as near as can be certain (so the Appeal Court said) of having been responsible for fitting up an innocent man and wrongly putting him in jail for two-and-half years. The corrupt method used to convict him was, again, deliberately placing specks of firearms residue in the man's coat.
Now, in the Met's efforts to identify 'Smithman', and to bring 'closure' to the McCanns and everyone else, do they have something, some kind of object or artefact, that is, shall we say - and I mean this literally - up their sleeve?

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

Not in an accusatory way necessarily but just in a general filling in gaps as they were there sort of way?

Looking along rue 25 abril on Google maps there is a large area of brush land at the western end but don't think it could be private. there are trees, one quite tall, and one would assume there was at least about 4 feet of top soil for trees to grow, so maybe deep enough to dig down a few feet.

One would hope the regular updates are moments to sneak in some questions. However what I have seen from Andy and his bunch I doubt it.

Re: Digging to start next week - UPDATE... starting today 2/6/14
If TVI is right about the searches there are a couple of old, wrecked buildings up from Luzdoc which could have been used as a storage place.
Dr Amaral was pictured in the Express IIRC in front of a private house which he said his team had been very interested in, there was a big gate that was open at the time.
These would be very close to the Smithman sighting.
I can't believe this is all kicking in just as the main holiday season starts.

Is that the same building that was mentioned(can't remember the source) where it was uninhabited and there was a rusty shower cubicle but IIRC no shower curtain? Can anyone else remember this please?Praia wrote:If TVI is right about the searches there are a couple of old, wrecked buildings up from Luzdoc which could have been used as a storage place.

The shower outside was in one of the run down buildings. They are just up to the right from where the Smith's crossed Rua 25 de Abril.

Oh dear !
Oh dear, indeed.
NOW nobody will be 'searching' for an 'unharmed' and 'live' Madeleine!
McCanns HAVE to 'sue' the Daily Star,(and their 'mate' Jerry Lawton) don't they, given that their libel case is based solely on GA saying Madeleine is not, in his opinion, 'alive' and that is what 'stopped' people 'searching' for her?
"See ya in court, Jerry!"

Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for Mr and Mrs McCann, said: "Due diligence was carried out before Oakley were employed on behalf of the Madeleine fund. Money was PAID for work SATISFACTORILY carried out.........the contract was terminated. The matter is considered closed."

This all indicates that they are saying MM nevr left PdeL which was the conclusion of the PJ
Why aren't the press reporting this considering what it has cost?
I just don't understand it at all
Did the PJ ever consider digging before
Reading that article it sounds to me like its the PJs dig with UK on the sidelines or am I way off

Well, to use Andy's 'logic'
You could be way off OR you could be spot on!
You MIGHT be right OR you MIGHT be wrong!
Your left foot could be your right foot OR your right foot could be your left foot!
Anyway back to your question we have this:
Firstly, a few days ago, "That is because the Portuguese police and not the British will carry out any work in Praia da Luz. British officers will simply be observers. The activity in Portugal is led by the Portuguese, that's absolutely crystal clear in law," Mr Rowley said.
Secondly, a few days later, "CM knows that the excavations will be carried out by the English police. The Judiciária will be on location (observing) just due to bureaucratic issues, given that it holds jurisdiction over the area.
Any 'discovery' will be communicated to the Portuguese authorities and will become part of the process, which was reopened late last year, and which presently runs against unknown persons."
So the answer is, the Portuguese are doing the 'digs' with the Met 'looking on' OR the Met are doing the 'digs' with the Portuguese 'looking on'!
Clear as mud, eh?

So the UK police are involved with a dig in a foreign country, at the most inconvenient time for the area to be dug, a mention of murder has not been withdrawn and now we are told the dig is for a body.

Hi - My friend from Portugal just emailed me this. Thought i would post it on here. Hope thats ok.
Jornal de Notícias (paper edition)
English want to dig ground in search for Maddie
Polícia Judiciária (PJ) was in Praia da Luz yesterday, on the ground where the searches and excavations are going to take place.
by Marisa Rodrigues
29.05.2014
The investigators have worked out the last details for the diligences that are to start next Monday. They have been requested by the British police, that believes the body may be buried there, seven years after the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, on the 3rd of May of 2007, at the Ocean Club resort, while their friends were dining with friends at the hotel’s restaurant.
On the ground were several inspectors, accompanied by the PJ’s Faro Directory’s coordinator, Luís Mota Carmo. They walked the entire area, by car and on foot, as JN was able to witness. This was one of the last steps that were missing in the planning that has been carried out by the team of Algarve investigators that was chosen to fulfil the requests from the Metropolitan Police that have been authorised by the Public Ministry.
Although the British police has already said that it wants to search at several locations in Praia da Luz, JN knows that diligences have been authorised at just one plot, the only one that was requested by the Metropolitan Police in the last letter rogatory. For searches at other locations, there will have to be another official request, which always depends on being granted by the Public Ministry.
The plot at stake is located near the Rua 25 de Abril, as JN has reported. It’s a vast area, with thick, high vegetation, and several slopes. Due to the dimension and the characteristics of the area, the forecast is for the work to last for at least one week. And that is what is planned.
According to what JN was able to establish, there are no searches, and even less excavations, foreseen for the first day of diligences, which should be Monday. First, the entire team will have to observe and delimitate the area that will be investigated. After that, the following steps will be defined.
A British team is expected to travel to the Algarve, including detectives from London’s Metropolitan Police, forensics experts, sniffer dogs and a geo radar to analyse the ground. The PJ has the exclusive competence of coordinating the entire operation. The British detectives cannot have any intervention.
DETAILS
Dead?
The most recent steps in the British investigation indicate that the possibility that is seen as the strongest is that Maddie is dead. Recently, the Metropolitan Police admitted, for the first time, that the investigation may be inconclusive.
British hurry
The British police’s intention of making searches on other grounds appeared even before the first one was planned by the PJ. The request has to be made through a letter rogatory to the Attorney General’s Office.
Repeated searches
The plot next to Rua 25 de Abril where the searches and excavations will take place was thoroughly searched by the GNR and by sniffer dogs, immediately after the disappearance of Maddie, seven years ago.

It seems the fund will bound to suffer now that SY are digging to look for a dead child. Yet even at this stage, with the dig about to commence, for Gerry Mccann to continue to claim they are hoping for a happy outcome imo, means he is clinging on til the very last donation hits the coffers.
