Looking For Madeleine: Anthony Summers Empty Looking For Madeleine: Anthony Summers

Post by tasprin 26.07.14 20:01

I can't find a thread on this new book (apologies and please merge if there is)
Imo this book will be 100% pro-McCann. Anthony Summer's loves conspiracy theories - debunking them - he seems to be the go-to man for a good debunking and is very popular with the MSM. 'Looking For Madeleine' is published by Headline, but coincidentally Summers also publishes under Random House as does Kate McCann. He lives in Ireland and is married to co-author, Robbyn Swan. Wonder if there's a personal connection to the McCanns or someone they know and/or has this book been commissioned by an ally. Listen to Summers 2011 radio interview below (re 9/11 the plane that crashed into the Pentagon) Summers, in austere tone of voice, accuses the speaker Craig Ranke of making "a very, very serious statement that, if true, is major worldwide news and Mr Ranke should make the email public".  Ranke replies that the email has already been published (on website since 2007) but oddly there's no response at all from Summers or the presenter.

The definitive account of the Madeleine McCann case.
The 2007 disappearance of a three-year-old Madeleine McCann from her bed in Portugal proved an instant, worldwide sensation. There's been nothing like it since America's Lindbergh kidnapping eighty years ago. Award-winning authors Anthony Summers and Robbyn Swan have produced the first independent, objective account of the case. They have examined the released Portuguese files, conducted in-depth interviews and original research to answer the questions: What can we really know about this most emotive of cases? What can we learn from it?
The Portuguese police probe ran into a dead end. Parents Gerry and Kate McCann, however, have never given up the search for Madeleine. They blitzed the media, hired private detectives, kept the case in the public eye. Speculation that the McCanns played a role in their daughter's fate, the authors demonstrate, is unfounded. Scotland Yard's 'investigative review', ordered by the Prime Minister and begun in 2011, identified some 200 potential leads. The Yard's suspects have included a mystery paedophile who preyed on other British children. The Detective Chief Inspector heading the probe has said the little girl may still be alive. The McCann family's private tragedy has touched millions around the world and aroused sometimes dark controversy. Looking for Madeleine is the most definitive account possible.

CIT (Citizen Investigative Team)
Radio interview (2011)
9/11 Pentagon Debate: Craig Ranke (CIT) vs Anthony Summers
Besides touting it as "the first panoramic, authoritative account of 9/11", Summers' and his wife (co-author) claim in the sleeve of their book that they "thoroughly consider the contentions of the '9/11 truth' movement". On page 116, they say that they "have seen not jot of evidence that anything like a false flag scenario was used on 9/11." They go on to say that "after more than four years' research" they have not "encountered a shred of real information indicating that the Bush administration was complicit in 9/11."

In the debate, I demonstrate that Anthony Summers has either not "thoroughly considered" the evidence we (CIT) present, or is deliberately covering it up. I also get him to concede that he has not interviewed a single witness to the Pentagon plane for this allegedly "panoramic, authoritative" book.
We feel that this is a particularly important debate considering that Summers has been featured rather prominently by the corporate media this year as some sort of 9/11 expert and supposed debunker of "conspiracy theorists". This included an interview with Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) member Charlie Rose of PBS in July, who introduced him as "an old friend". In that interview, Summers stated that: "What we did in the end was, I hope, successfully to dispatch, for sane Americans, most of the conspiracy theorists' ideas". The debate was "moderated" by Pacifica's Terry Kester, although it was clear that he was not neutral on this subject, and he even jumped in several times to attempt to assist Summers.

Re: JFK Conspiracy (1980) - Title later changed to: Not In Your Lifetime
Interesting report on Summers' writings
CTKA
November 11, 2013
Excerpts:
A long time ago, Anthony Summers wrote a good book on the JFK case. It was called, appropriately enough, Conspiracy. In fact, since I have not updated my Top Ten JFK Books of late, I still list it as one of the best books in the field...
Then, something odd happened to Conspiracy. In its later reissues, Summers changed the title of the book. The new title was Not in Your Lifetime. This signified what literary types would call a semiotic change...
I personally thought this title change was inexplicable. The first title seemed to represent the book's thesis. But now Summers was backtracking to safer ground. I couldn't really understand why...
As time went on, I got an idea as to why. In 1993, Summers, along with Gus Russo and Dale Myers, served as consultants on the late Mike Sullivan's weird PBS Frontline show, "Who Was Lee Harvey Oswald?" To his credit, Summers eventually asked that his name to be taken off the program. But he certainly stayed involved for a long time. Way after it became obvious as to what Russo and Myers had become. And in fact, on July 25th of this year Dale Myers revealed something at his "Secrets of a Homicide" blog that makes the mystery of why Summers stuck it out so long even more puzzling. Myers and Russo had always intimated that this program was done in a completely open ended manner. That is, there was no slant to it upon the inception of the production. Well, when Sullivan died Myers could not resist saluting him for letting him appear on television. Along the way, in an interview with Gus Russo, Myers blew open the cover story about that program. Russo said that far from being an honest and open-ended program that proceeded inductively, this was not Sullivan's plan at all. Russo said "Sullivan suggested we start with finding out who pulled the trigger in Dallas first and work backward from there to find out if anyone else was involved." In other words, the show started with a deduction and proceeded from there. That deduction was that Oswald shot Kennedy, and there may have been a second shooter. ]Sounds like Scotland Yard] In light of that very late revelation, we should not admire Summers for eventually having his name taken off the show. Instead, we should ask: Why did he stick around at all? We shall see why...

In the face of all that, and even in the face of his own tabloid disclosures, Summers is still saying: Well maybe. Maybe not. It might have been a conspiracy. But maybe it wasn't. Its possible. By surfing the internet and meeting up with the likes of Lambert, Roy and Reitzes we might need another 50 years to convince Summers. As for me, I really hope it's the last round for Tony. He used this decades old story to get a tabloid cover to boost sales of a book which has seen better days and better versions. Meanwhile, there is a whole cohort of researchers from the UK and down under who we need much more than reissues of this dated book. While Summers has been cavorting around with the likes of Lambert, Roy and Reitzes, others have been listening to people like Greg Parker, Sean Murphy, Lee Farley, Martin Hay, Hasan Yusuf and Seamus Coogan. And if Summers had been doing the same, it would have made his book a lot more relevant. http://www.ctka.net/2013/summers.html

Book Review: Goddess: The Secret Lives of Marilyn Monroe
 Laura Grande May 29, 2013
When the first edition was released in 1985, Summers’ investigative reporting on Monroe’s life caused a stir in the media...
What initially started off as a one-off article commissioned to Summers in 1982 by London’s Sunday Express culminated into Goddess. Few biographies are this thorough. While Summers certainly has his detractors, I’m not one of them. Yes, on occasion the author neglects to quote more than one source to confirm certain particulars (a decision that would never fly with a newspaper or magazine editor), but his biography is arguably the definitive glimpse into the life of Monroe...
While readers may have qualms about Summers, we should embrace the fact that this is as close as we are ever likely to get to the truth.

This fellow, Tony Summers,  is obviously an establishment geyser - BBC an` all that.

On the Education Forum John Simkin raised some questions to Tony Summers; the answer to one was :-

"
(7) What is your basic approach to writing about what I would call “secret history”? How do you decide what sources to believe? How do you manage to get hold of documents that prove that illegal behaviour has taken place?
I spend weeks or months building a huge chronology and reading everything worth reading that I can lay my hands on. Then I start interviewing - usually hundreds of people. There are a number of reasons that may lead one to believe or not believe an interviewee. Sometimes those who seem the most credible turn out to liars, and vice versa. I like to have two sources or more for a fact or assertion - but sometimes one is not that lucky. Then you have to go with your own judgement in the context of all the other related information and the nature of the interviewee. I always let the reader know what my sources are - readers deserve that. How do I get hold of documents? Dozens of ways - the Freedom of Infromation Act, or its equivalent in countries other than the United States, holdings of individuals' personal papers, court records. In short, anywhere."

John Simkin also started a Madeleine McCann thread on the Education Forum forum back in September 2007. On twitter he describes himself as a historian and investigator of political corruption.

Surely if he and the McCanns have information or evidence they should hand it to the PJ or SY. ¿ NO ?
