A source close to the PJ told the Daily Mail...

Clarrie again! Now he's a "source close to the PJ".

Ahem. If the PJ wanted information about supposed burglars released, the PJ would have released the information themselves. They wouldn't have farmed it out to "a source".

Mostly a rehash of the usual tripe. But it looks like Redwood himself in the photos - the smaller one of the two with red ties. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The factual part of the article is here:

Scotland Yard detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have held an important meeting with Portuguese counterparts that they hope will lead to a major breakthrough in the case.

Four Met Police officers met with senior members of Portugal’s detective squad, the Policia Judiciaria (PJ), in Faro, to urge them to carrying out inquiries identified by the British investigation known as Operation Grange.

The detectives had arrived in the Algarve on Monday afternoon and held a three-hour meeting, starting at 10am today.

The Met officers held talks with the head of the PJ in Faro, Mota Carmo, and Ana Paula-Rita, the coordinator for the PJ office in Portimao, whose jurisdiction covers Praia da Luz, in the hope of gathering new evidence.

The rest is spin.
Nice photos though.
And it's good to see SY and PJ actually talking to one another in person.

Reading between the lines on the current story in the Daily Mail (sorry haven't had time to read all the comments here) I'd say that the best hope for the police now is locating these burglars in the hope that they have seen something and can give them the final pieces of the jigsaw of what happened on May 3rd 2007.

Oh yes! Deadly serious. They look so daunted by the prospect.

It's Redwood. In the red tie with stripes.

Not a meeting for minions, then. A serious meeting of minds? Constructive to agree a way forward? And are they still out there - no mention of their return.

So that makes perfect sense in the way Portimão or Lisbon would not have done.
Which WE is that?
We the Forum or We the UK/AR/SY or We ??

We, as in several people who not only post here from time to time, (or not recently as in two cases), but also read elsewhere, and then collate, collect, dissect, analyse,
research, and gradually put together a coherent view about any particular aspect of the case.

Whether they read it, or understand it, is of course another question.

The amount of high visibility coverage makes an absolute mockery of any kind of swoop!
Let's hope it's some promising discussions and strategy in a more plausible direction.

Don't take notice of the Burglars story - it is just McSpin!

It's been done to death because the Mccanns are at a lost what other excuse to come up with.

They are on tenterhooks.

It's the high volume of mobile phone calls between three people police want to arrest that are the main points of interest AFAIAC. The rest is elaborate window dressing. Very quiet in Rothley isn't it?

Aye. Whatever was in that letter and subsequently discussed at the meeting will have nothing to do with burglars or new Portuguese suspects of any occupation. It could have something to do with new witnesses as new evidence appears, imo, to be the missing part of the jigsaw. But it could simply be that the two teams have perhaps found the same hymn sheet and are about to sing from it. Or plan from it.

If I'm understanding your reference to hymn sheets, I was wondering realistically how a large number of people could countenance going down the McCann fairy tales route and saddling themselves with the same situation, ie, waiting to be called to account further down the line. The genie is well and truly out of the bottle and cannot be put back, so not following the evidence would be professional suicide IMO. There is a tipping point, surely, when collateral damage has to be accepted, so that the taint of this case can be lifted from two countries and diplomatic fences mended. I hope and pray common sense and integrity will prevail now.

It's clear to anyone with a modicum of brain cells that the Police are looking at phone forensics.
The Mccanns know it too.

Good to see the DM displaying photos of the NSY officers in "relax" mode with none of that ridiculous "face of stone" expression that Redwood cultivated for CW.

I am afraid some people here are going to be disillusioned. This visit is purely "as advertised" - it's a standard liaison meeting to set up rogatory interviews of the burglary suspects...interviews which I think will result in...absolutely nothing.

Re: Scotland Yard detectives investigating Madeleine McCann case move a step closer to making arrests with official bid to interview three suspects

Anxious Kate and Gerry were being kept “fully informed” of events after learning of the dramatic breakthrough

Madeleine McCann’s parents were said to be “on tenterhooks” as Scotland Yard detectives looked set to swoop on three suspects after flying to Portugal.

Anxious Kate and Gerry were being kept “fully informed” of events after learning of the dramatic breakthrough in the bid to solve the six-year riddle of their missing daughter.

A source close to the couple said: “Clearly the fact that the police are out there is significant. Kate and Gerry will now be on tenterhooks as they wait for any potential developments.

“The Met are being very pro-active and this is good news in the search for Madeleine and her abductor.”

The source revealed that Kate and Gerry, both 45, of Rothley, Leics, were cautiously hopeful about the latest move. He said: “It is necessary for British police to request the Portuguese authorities allow them to operate on their turf. It means they have the intention of arresting and interviewing X, Y or Z.

“Whether the Portuguese will co-operate remains to be seen. It is a very sensitive issue with differences they have had.

“Kate and Gerry don’t want to build up their hopes but they realise it could be a significant new lead.”

After arriving in the Algarve yesterday the Yard team held a secret four-hour meeting with senior Portuguese officers and prosecutors. The discussions are believed to have centred on getting local officials to sanction the arrests and subsequent questioning.

The breakthrough follows a cold-case UK review involving a painstaking trawl through mobile phone data.

It has pin-pointed three men who are said to have been very close to the scene when three-year-old Maddie was snatched from her family’s holiday apartment at the resort of Praia da Luz in May 2007.

The records also indicate the suspects, believed to be a burglary gang, made a high number of calls to each other in the hours following her abduction.

Det Chief Insp Andy Redwood, who is leading the UK hunt, arrived at police headquarters in Faro just after 10am clutching two bulging box files.

He was accompanied by three colleagues for the meeting with Luís Mota Carmo, the director of the Polícia Judiciária.

Mr Carmo heads a team of six Faro detectives who have been carrying out work on behalf of Scotland Yard.

The Mirror revealed earlier this month that the Crown Prosecution Service had sent an International Letter of Request to Portuguese police seeking permission to question the new suspects. Portugal’s attorney general’s office confirmed last week that it had received the letter.

An insider said of yesterday’s talks: “It’s the first time the UK and Portuguese police have met since the request was made.”

He added: “The investigation is at a sensitive stage and it remains to be seen what action will be taken by the Portuguese police.”

on tenterhooks - definition:
anxiously waiting for news about someone or something She was on tenterhooks until her son called and said he was not hurt.
Etymology: based on the literal meaning of tenterhook (a hook that holds cloth that is stretched to dry), suggesting that someone's emotions are tightly stretched like a piece of cloth held by tenterhooks
------------------------------------------------
Bit different from the days when they giggled when asked about their emotions when a sighting was reported.
Bit different to the times they said they didn't allow themselves to go on an emotional roller coaster.
Oh well, we'll see. Something is definitely afoot. I draw comfort from the fact that Brunt is still in the UK actually.
