It's only going to be a 5-0 whitewash because someone abducted the England team's bats.

That may well be the cover story.

But should we be looking elsewhere for the truth?

Do you mean somewhere like silly mid-off?

Or is a third man with a square leg the suspect?

No, in the covers, of course!

Back to that 82-page list of the England Cricket Team's dietary requirements.

I think they could surely dispense with a performance nutritionist after this debacle. Time he was given 'out' I think:

+++++++++++++++

England have given Australia ideal sledging material for the Ashes after sending an 82-page list of their players’ catering demands to each Test match ground during their defence of the urn.
Andy Flower’s men opened themselves up to ridicule by circulating documents containing nearly 200 different types of meal and beverage ahead of the first Test in Brisbane, which begins on Nov 21.
The catering options, designed by Chris Rosimus, performance nutritionist of the England and Wales Cricket Board, range from “mini mushroom and spinach bhajis” to “quinoa with roasted butternut squash, apricot and parsley”.
A selection of breakfast, snack, lunch, tea and post-match options are specified for each of the five days of a Test, with the ECB guide stating that it is “essential” that all meals are cooked as per the chef’s guide.
Among the 194 dishes and drinks are “piri-piri breaded tofu with tomato salsa”, a “quinoa and cranberry breakfast bar” and “mungbean curry with spinach”.
According to a 12-page file entitled “Test Catering Requirements” and a 70-page recipe guide marked as “essential” to use, the following must be made available to the England dressing room 20 minutes before the end of day one of every Test: Moroccan spiced griddled chicken fillets with lime and coriander mayo; Lamb and pea kofta kebabs with mint yoghurt; roasted vegetable and halloumi kebabs with red pepper dip; ginger and garlic king prawn kebabs with garlic mayo; a selection of whole-wheat French bread pizzas (parma ham and tomato/feta and red onion); a selection of sandwiches (grilled aubergine, red pepper, red onion and basil purée; Cajun salmon, yoghurt and cucumber; Thai citrus chicken and rocket; avocado, raw slaw and butterbean; turkey breast, basil and pine nut); almond and cinnamon flapjacks; banana and peanut bars (protein based Maximuscle); chocolate and coconut truffles.
Day two then requires a different menu, also available 20 minutes before the end of play: Cajun grilled tofu kebabs; pork, beef and feta meatballs with tomato dip; Szechuan chicken fillets; a selection of whole wheat pizzas; French bread pizzas (chicken with salami and mozzarella/chillied pumpkin and red onion with mozzarella; a selection of sandwiches; fillings as per tea break; chocolate and sweet potato brownies (protein based Maximuscle); blueberry and polenta muffins (protein based Maximuscle); almond and pistachio macaroons (protein based Maximuscle).
Such attention to detail is demanded at every point during the day, with Rosimus stating: “Some ingredients within this book will not be in season when you come to use them. If availability is an issue, please do not use an alternative or omit from the recipe.
“Please feel free [unless specified] to serve the sandwiches on any variety of bread you wish. However a preference would be whole wheat, seeded or rye varieties.
“For any meat used in sandwich fillings please do not use processed meats, only freshly cooked meats will suffice.
“All fish must be filleted and contain no bones. Please only use low fat mayonnaise and yoghurts.”
There are also separate food and drink requirements for Twenty20 and one-day internationals.
Australia confirmed they also sent food guidelines and instructions to venues before touring to ensure players were receiving the right nutrients.
But Cricket Australia nutritionist Michelle Cort insisted its meal plans were much less detailed, including on the last Ashes tour of England.
Australian newspaper the Sydney Morning Herald has already poked fun at the tourists in an article headlined “England’s cricket team demands silver service on dietary needs”.
The newspaper also describes England as “five-star tourists”.
With Australia looking to avoid a fourth successive Ashes series defeat for the first time since they lost the first eight in the 1800s, it is safe to assume their players and supporters will also waste little time making capital out of their opponent’s culinary proclivities.

Maybe Kevin Pietersen had a few too many pistachio macaroons...

Just HOURS after England's Ashes humiliation, cricketer is using dating app to tempt a blonde to his hotel room
Monty Panesar allegedly invited the American girl to his hotel room
The 31-year-old told the girl 'he could not go out under coaches' orders'
'Alison' recognised the spin bowler's photograph after watching match
Panesar was dropped from the team following humiliating defeat

An England cricketer allegedly used a dating app to try and lure a young woman to his hotel room just hours after losing to Australia in a humiliating Ashes defeat.
Monty Panesar invited a blonde backpacker to his room after exchanging messages with the girl in her twenties on Tinder, it has been reported.
The 31-year-old is thought to have asked the American, known only as Alison, to come over for a drink as he wasn't allowed to go out under coaches' orders.

England cricketer Monty Panesar allegedly invited the girl to his hotel room as he was not allowed to go out
The girl, who wishes to withhold her second name, spotted Panesar on the app which allows users to view singletons within a 50 mile radius, after he uploaded a picture of himself batting against Australia.
She claims to have recognised the spin bowler after attending the match the previous day.
'I thought it was a bit strange that he would be behaving like that so soon after they had lost,' she told the Sunday Mirror.
'I wanted to talk to him about cricket but he had no intentions of that. All he seemed interested in was getting me over to the hotel.'
'I would have met him in a public place but I was not going to meet him at his apartment by myself.'
The divorcee reportedly told Alison that he loved American girls before inviting her to the four star Como hotel.

The spin bowler was dropped from the team following the defeat but reportedly invited the girl to his hotel room hours after the match
The Sikh cricketer allegedly abandoned his teetotal lifestyle following his divorce from wife, Gursharan Rattan.
A court ordered him to stay away from his former wife in 2011 following an alleged incident outside a pub.
Last summer he was arrested and fined for urinating on bouncers in a nightclub in Brighton.
Panesar has been dropped from the England line up following his poor performance against Australia.

Which, in this test series, consisted of four innings: 2, 0, 2 and 0, total 4 runs, batting average 1.00.

If he'd wanted to impress her with his spin bowling, well, that was 3 wickets for 257 runs, bowling average 1 wkt per 85.67 runs.

Maybe he also had too many pistachio macaroons
