Murder charge over missing Jayden Parkinson

Jayden Parkinson was last seen in the Iffley Road area of Oxford on 3 December

A 22-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a missing teenager.

Officers are treating the disappearance of Jayden Parkinson, from Oxford, as murder. The 17-year-old was last seen on Tuesday, 3 December.

Ben Blakeley, of Christchurch Road, Reading, was charged late on Sunday with her murder and with perverting the course of justice, Thames Valley Police said.

He is due to appear at Oxford Magistrates' Court later.

A 17-year-old boy, who was also arrested on suspicion of murder, remains in police custody.

Earlier, police called on the public to "refrain from carrying out their own searches" for missing Jayden.

The teenage girl was last seen on CCTV at 16:07 GMT on 3 December boarding a train at Oxford railway station to Didcot Parkway.

Detectives previously said they wanted to speak to a man seen "struggling" with a suitcase about her disappearance.

Police want to trace the man, who was seen in Upton at 02:00 GMT on Monday, 9 December.

The same man was seen in nearby Didcot about half an hour later.

The man is described as white, aged about 20, about 5ft 7in (1.7m) tall with a slim or medium build and short dark hair. He was wearing light-coloured jeans.

The case is described as being of light-coloured canvas, possibly pale blue.

Over the weekend, specialist officers have been searching in and around the village of Upton.

The police search is continuing

Specialist search teams backed by helicopters and police dogs have continued searching an area of farmland just outside the village of Upton, near Didcot, where they appear to be focusing on a small patch of woodland near the church.

As does the entire Medical profession, (with two notable exceptions of course)

And no body, AND someone detained in custody for "perverting the course of justice". Seems we have a law for one, and a law for another, in this country.

It troubles me that this ability to bring charges so quickly without recourse to a body suggests that her death might have been recorded in some way.

If you read other reports you'll see that the 17 year old male who has been detained on 'suspicion of murder' in connection with this case attended a police station of his own volition prior to his detention, which was prior to the subsequent arrest of Ben Blakeley on a charge of murder.

In some cases the police are quick to act but in all cases of murder, manslaughter, and other serious allegations, such evidence as is available is run by the CPS before determination of what charges should be made.

Jayden Parkinson: Police Searching Graveyard

Police searching for missing teenager Jayden Parkinson are focusing their investigation on a churchyard grave.

Thames Valley Police said the hunt for Jayden has led them to the grounds of All Saints' Church in Didcot, Oxfordshire.

The 17-year-old girl disappeared on December 3 after she was last seen leaving the town's railway station at about 4.30pm.

Officers are acting on a tip-off received this afternoon, and have liaised with the family of the person buried in the grave.

Detective Chief Superintendent Andy Murray said: "This afternoon we received some significant and highly relevant information which leads us to concentrate our search efforts in the Great Western Cemetery.

"We're in the process of securing this grave and would like to emphasise that the family connected with this grave have been informed.

"We will be here throughout the night and for a number of days. A tent has been erected which covers more than the specific grave we are focusing on.

"The families of those in the graves nearby will be contacted by us and reassured that there will be no disturbance to these graves."
He added that police would be at the site for "a number of days".

Earlier today, Jayden's former boyfriend, 22-year-old Ben Blakeley, of Reading, appeared at Oxford Crown Court charged with her murder and perverting the course of justice by disposing of her body and lying to the police.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also appeared before Oxford magistrates charged with perverting the course of justice between December 3 and December 10 by assisting in the disposal of Jayden's body and other evidence.

More than 100 uniformed officers and detectives have been working on the case, backed up by specialists from the National Crime Agency.

Mr Murray said there was "no indication" that Jayden was alive, and appealed to the public to get in touch if they remembered seeing the teenager "on her own, or in the company of anybody".

He also repeated an appeal for any information about a man seen struggling with a suitcase just outside the village of Upton, near Didcot, in south Oxfordshire, at about 2am, on December 9.

The same man was later then seen with the same suitcase in the Lydalls Road area of Didcot - where All Saints' is located - at about 3.30am.

Detectives have since recovered several suitcases, one of which "may well be significant", Mr Murray said.

Digging up a grave in the churchyard this morning
I suspect they have an admission

They have also recovered a tennis bag suitcase, which they say is "significant". Surely not a dog sniff !
