I just looked at the recording of this.jeanmonroe wrote:Asks why Ben Needham dosen't get the same resources as Madeleine McCann.
I got the impression that Cameron wanted to get it out of the way quickly.
Angela Smith Labour mp for Penistone and somewhere (?) asked the question. She outlined his previous refusal to help when Kerry Needham approached him by letter for parity with the McCanns. I was searching his poached-egg eyes but he kept his head down a lot of the time. I thought he looked uncomfortable. He talked rapidly. One err and he was agreeing to look at the situation again.
What I found more interesting was Andrew Landsley sitting to Cameron's right, and in camera shot throughout. Couldn't help noticing the upswing of his head and a look of sudden intense interest on the word "Obviously" uttered by Cameron. DC sat down pretty quick after saying " ......I'll see what I can do."

Good. I like that result, l hope this exercise is to catch the McCanns and he can hardly answer to that effect....Mirage wrote:I just looked at the recording of this.jeanmonroe wrote:Asks why Ben Needham dosen't get the same resources as Madeleine McCann.

Interestingly DC said 'it is for the police to make these decisions and for the government to stand by to help, which is what happened in the McCann case.'

VERBATIM:
Angela smith:
Thankyou Mr Speaker.
"Two years ago the PM quite rightly agreed that extra resources be made available to assist in the search for Madeleine McCann".
"And yet only months later he turned down a similar request from my constituent. Kerry Needham, whose son Ben is still missing after 22 years",
"Will the prime minister please think again and respond positively to my recent letter to him by making extra resources available to help a desperate mother search for her son?"
(hear, hear)
PM: "yeah, well this has been an absolutely heartbreaking case that i know the whole country has. has followed over these years i'll look very carefully the letter that she wrote me obviously, errrr, it's very important the police make these decisions themselves Government should always stand by to help which is what happened in the Madeleine McCann case but i'll look at what she says and se, see what i can do"

Hmm, the Government immediately sanctioned it after the letter from McCanns appeared on the front pages.jeanmonroe wrote:VERBATIM:

I didn't see his Government 'ALWAYS standing by to help' Kerry, did you?
But there again, Kerry didn't threaten (persuade) Theresa May and Cameron with splashing their names all over the front covers of newspapers, everyday, until they were finally 'persuaded' to give 'unlimited funding' (£5.7 MILLION, to date) to the Met to 'review/investigate' Madeleines UNEXPLAINED 'disapperance'

Re: MP asks PM about Ben Needham at PMQ's. TODAY.
So perhaps by putting a different slant on it by emphasising that it's a matter for the police, DC is now distancing himself and the government a bit from the McCann affair, and that there is therefore a possibility that he knows that there is something more serious going on now? Certainly Andrew Lansley had an exceptionally grim face during this exchange.candyfloss wrote:Hmm, the Government immediately sanctioned it after the letter from McCanns appeared on the front pages.jeanmonroe wrote:VERBATIM:

And this little GEM from the 'sayings' of Mitchell.
The McCann’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell says: "Kate and Gerry have not been given any special treatment”
Ah, bless, you gotta luv 'im don't ya.

Re: MP asks PM about Ben Needham at PMQ's. TODAY.
But it wasn't the police who made the decision in Madeleine's case, was it? It was David Cameron after his riding partner Rebekah Brooks ran an open letter to Cameron on the front page of The Sun, if I recall correctly.DonNewbery wrote:Interestingly DC said 'it is for the police to make these decisions and for the government to stand by to help, which is what happened in the McCann case.'

I would add that, while I have great sympathy for Kerry Needham, I do hope that these efforts to get even more taxpayers' money spent on him on the grounds that £millions have been spent on Madeleine McCann fails. Where does it end? What about the hundreds of British children that have gone missing here in the UK in the past 25 years? Surely they all deserve to be treated the same as Madeleine – not just Ben? How much tax are we all prepared to pay to fund all these endless searches for long-missing people? How many public services are we willing to sacrifice on the off chance that a 24-year-old Ben Needham may be found?

Re: MP asks PM about Ben Needham at PMQ's. TODAY.
Ben is just an example.
ALL 'missing' UK children's police forces should have/had the same 'unlimited' funding that Madeleine has had.
Her parents 'jeopardised', by their own admission, the investigation into her 'disappearance'.
It pains me to say this, but Cameron and May should STOP all 'funding' toward her UNTIL her parents and their friends fully co-operate with the PJ/MET 'investigations'
Correct me if i'm wrong, but did he say the Government was on stand by to 'help/fund' ANY police force that asks him, with 'unlimited funds' to 'fund' the 'investigations' of ALL missing UK children, if those police forces ask him?

Re: MP asks PM about Ben Needham at PMQ's. TODAY.
Never seen this before. Talking of Andrew Lansley earlier looking a bit grim at PMQs I decided to Google him and see what came up. Apart from some business about a £21k donation from Care Uk to his office I suddenly saw the following dated 10th July 2012 on BBC news site.
Expert's warning over Glenfield Hospital's loss of ECMO unit
About 50 babies and children will die over five years if specialist life support treatment moves from Leicester to Birmingham, an expert has warned.
Paediatric ECMO treatment, used to oxygenate the blood of patients, is to move from Glenfield Hospital.
International ECMO expert Kenneth Palmer has written to Health Secretary Andrew Lansley warning 20 years of experience will be thrown away.
Mr Lansley is currently considering advice on the impact of the decision.
ECMO has been used on children and adults at Glenfield Hospital for 20 years. The hospital has the UK's largest ECMO unit.
The children's ECMO treatment is due to move as part of national reorganisation of child heart surgery. The hospital's children's heart surgery unit is also set to move.
Leading centre
Mr Palmer, director of the ECMO unit at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden, said: "Leicester has one of the highest survival rates [for patients who need ECMO] in the world.
"They could never have the same survival rate in another unit if you move it like this.
CMO stands for Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation
"You have to destroy it and then you have to rebuild it. There is no way you can just move treatment like this.
"I don't think you should destroy something that has been built up for 20 years just overnight like this."
He said Leicester and Stockholm were world-leading ECMO centres and both had survival rates about 10% to 20% higher than the normal rate in other parts of the world.
He estimated 10 extra children will die each year if the survival rate drops.
The letter to Andrew Lansley states: "You will take over 20 years of experience from one of the world's absolute best ECMO units and throw it away ... and probably it will take at least five years to have some kind of quality and probably 20 years to come back to top quality if it's ever possible."
'Considering advice'
The Joint Committee of Primary Care Trusts (JCPCT), which made the decision to stop child heart surgery at Glenfield, said it wants to improve services by creating fewer but larger surgical centres.
Teresa Moss, director of the National Specialised Commissioning Team, said: "A panel of independent experts, led by Sir Ian Kennedy, assessed each centre's ability to meet the proposed national quality standards both now and in the future.
"The panel ranked Birmingham Children's Hospital third out of the 11 centres. Leicester was ranked ninth.
"We are well aware of the expertise at Glenfield Hospital and it is important that this expertise is retained in the Midlands through joint planning by Glenfield Hospital and Birmingham Children's Hospital."
A statement from the Department of Health said: "A final decision on the future configuration of children's congenital heart services was made by the Joint Committee of Primary Care Trusts on 4 July.
"The Advisory Group for National Specialised Services (AGNSS) has provided advice on the impact of this decision for the nationally commissioned paediatric ECMO service at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester. The Health Secretary is currently considering the advice of AGNSS."

Mods, please move the above post to the Glenfield thread if more appropriate. Seeing Lansley's face at PMQs today, I was in two minds which thread to use.
