How long before all the adverse comments are removed and only 'sterile' ones remain? Open a book anyone? I'll go for 1 hour.

My comments aren't getting through, I reckon someone has arrived at work and is frantically moderating.

ETA Yes the comments are disappearing as we thought!

"An impossibility .." ?

Post by Searcher on 16.10.13 10:03

The Mail says:  "Although Mr. Smith admitted he was not wearing his glasses at the time he later said he thought the man could have been GM.

"This is an impossibility as dozens of witnesses confirmed he was at the holiday complex at 10 pm.  British police have said they are certain that GM has nothing to do with his daughter's appearance." (sic).   [Interesting Freudian slip there by the Mail - "appearance"!]

What are we to make of this; would anyone have a link re GM's whereabouts and apparent witnesses?splat

on the e fits... compare with photo of G and K.

 1. the set of the mouth and how it is raised to one side.

 2. the eye which is set slightly higher than the other  [ very common]

maybe not significant if common facial features,  but these are similarities.

"Yet in September 2007 Mr Smith suddenly called police again to say he believed the man he saw could have been Gerry McCann.

He had been watching television coverage of the family returning to Britain. However numerous witnesses say they were with Mr McCann at the tapas restaurant at the time in question – so he could not possibly have been 500 yards away.

This has led to Mr Smith’s account being called into question."

And who are these 'witnesses' - that tapas crew? laughat

At least they printed what we know!

I have already raised this issue under another topic this morning [the Crimewatch discussion] but had little response. Redwood has said in the last week that it is absolutely not GM because there are several witnesses to him being at the Ocean Club at this time. My question was in short about the lack of any rational explanation for GM at the very time he needed to be seen at the Ocean Club carting a dead child around the streets a mile away for everyone to see. I can see no rationale for this being GM nor for it being an abductor but I am intrigued that GA last night still seemed to see it as very significant. In the great scheme of things I don't actually think it matters very much unless there is a totally objectively verified confirmation of who it is.

I'm stunned the DM is allowing these comments.

I started to feel it yesterday, just the slightest hope that the truth will finally come out, today I feel even more hopeful. Something big is about to happen.

Yikes!

"MAYBE..the body was taken from the apartment in Gerrys sports bag which was also missing..BEFORE they even went to dinner...maybe even..that afternoon...who knows hey.."

"Actually if you look at the police files there is no actual proof that Gerry McCaan was at the restaurant, other statements seem to be of the belief that it was 10.30pm that Kate McCaan alerted everybody. I'm just confused by the whole thing, it's just all a mess. The truth will out."

"Didn't Gerry once challenge some journalists "to find the body" and prove it was him?"

I do recall and will check that the PJ ruled G out as Smithman due to witnesses placing G at OC.

If not independent though, not sure if reliable witnesses.

GA said last night he thought this sighting important.

It's true Russian Doll they did say that according to the Daily Express 13 September 2007

http://express.lineone.net/posts/view/19042/Find-the-body-and-prove-we-killed-her

THE parents of missing Madeleine McCann yesterday challenged the police: "Find the body and prove we killed her."

Jose Cunha de Magalhaes e Meneses Public prosecutor
Attorney General Fernando José Pinto Monteiro
THE parents of missing Madeleine McCann yesterday challenged the police: "Find the body and prove we killed her."

The couple, who are suspected over the child's death and the disposal her body, issued the startling ultimatum as the public prosecutor in Portugal sent the police case against them to a judge.

It is thought that the McCanns' high-powered lawyers have told them that without a body it will be extremely difficult for the authorities to press charges.

A close friend said: "The legitimate question to ask Portuguese police is: 'Where is the body? Where is the evidence that Madeleine is dead? We have got no idea'."

The change in the family's tone – just days after the McCanns were still pleading for the search for Madeleine to continue – surprised sources close to the investigation.

"It seems remarkable that just days after the McCanns were saying they thought Madeleine was still alive and missing, now they're talking about a body," a source said. "I don’t know if this is really the McCanns speaking or just one of the people working on their publicity campaign but it is not the kind of comment to impress a team of detectives who think you’re guilty."

The case against the McCanns detailed in the dossier of evidence now before Judge Pedro Miguel dos Anjos Frias appears to rest mainly on potentially damaging forensic test results.

These are said to include Madeleine's DNA in traces of bodily fluid, as well as a mass of hair, discovered in the McCanns' hire car which was rented 25 days after she went missing on May 3.

Portugal's attorney general Fernando Jose Pinto Monteiro has indicated the police investigation into Kate and Gerry, both 39-year-old doctors, has not ended and suggested stricter bail conditions could be imposed on the couple.

Public prosecutor Jose Cunha de Magalhaes e Meneses, based at Portimao on the Algarve, on Tuesday ordered the 10 lever-arch police files in the case to go before the judge.

Mr Jose Pinto Monteiro announced last night that he was appointing a second public prosecutor to the case.

Luis Bilro Verao, from the Evora district in central Portugal, will oversee the work of Portimao-based Mr Cunha de Magalhaes e Meneses.

A friend of the McCanns said the family had been advised that the prosecutor was probably either seeking further guidance from the judge or applying for the authority to carry out more searches. The friend said the McCanns' new legal team, based in London, was working around the clock to "get up to speed on the case".

The McCanns' Portuguese lawyer, Carlos Pinto de Abreu, yesterday hit out at Portugal’s justice system in a scathing interview with a local newspaper.

"It is more appropriate to break down the patience of a believer and the reputation of an innocent man than to identify those responsible," he said.

A family friend said the speculation appeared to be taking its toll on the McCanns, who left Praia da Luz to return to their family home in Leicestershire at the weekend.

The source said: "Two days ago Gerry was telling everyone: 'I'm as strong as an ox'. Yesterday he was not quite as ebullient. They fear they will be summoned back at some stage.

They are innocent; they did not kill Madeleine and dispose of her body." It was expected that fresh searches would be ordered in Praia da Luz. Policia Judiciaria spokesman Olegario Sousa refused to confirm or deny the sites, but there was no sign of searches at the church yesterday.

Gerry's brother John McCann said: "There is so much speculation going on as to what the actual information the Portuguese police have.

"If they have got something that suggests Madeleine really is dead then for goodness sake tell the family who have the strongest feeling for this."

I have read a fair amount over the years but I for one have never read that the Smith sighting could not possibly have been GM as there are witnesses to say he was elsewhere at 10 pm.  What also comes to mind is the alleged cry from KM "they have taken her".  If that is true, there must have been a "they" in her mind.  [In extremis, reality can intrude?]  So perhaps indeed there is another explanation.

Yes RD. You're quite right. I am quoting from other reports not direct from what I have myself heard from Redwood. Apologies for not making that clear. But the two issues remain - one that it may actually be possible that GM is authoritatively ruled out and two what rationale is there for him to be carrying a dead M through the streets in full public view at this specific time?

The only witnesses who confirmed that Gerry was at the Tapas at 10h00 were the McCanns' friends. There were no independent witnesses to confirm his presence.

Agreed RD.

But nevertheless these comments will surely direct the casual observer of the McCann case to sites like this or to read the actual files. This is a very positive move forward. The Daily Mail must know something big is about to be exposed if they're allowing such adverse comments. Here's a few more.

Wow! clapping

"Most people who have followed this case are aware of the smith sighting and all that goes with it ,(Please read the files if you are not aware of the case ) the question is why has this not been made public by the Mccans own spokesperson , in the form of a faux press conference , like they did with the Victoria Beckham lookalike .ha ha !! this was the most credible independent sighting , of a child matching Madeline's description , the smiths were so concerned about the state of the child they asked the man carrying the child if she was all right . the man did not reply , i guess his accent (German , Polish ,Glaswegian) ? would have gave him away it was only after the files were made public that this sighting came to light , cleverly morphed into the alleged tanner sighting . that the mccans pushed and promoted why ?"

"Again I say why has the poor priest said he never wants to hear about them again I think we all know why."

"Even the Pope distanced himself from the case! Did the priest confess to him about the weight on his mind???"

"Apparently all their phone calls to each other mysteriously were wiped off their phone logs...I wonder if their calls are on the list the police want to see?..."

Nobody has said anything about a dead Maddie being carried through the streets. A  white, dark haired man carrying a fair haired child who appeared asleep
was what was witnessed and that is what I believe was seen
