Official findmadeleine.com website - updates

Post by Sceptic on 13.10.13 16:38

Considering the Crimewatch story has been headline news all week i find it hard to understand why their is no mention of it on the official website - no advert, no reference, no plea to watch it - surely this is their main medium to communicate and contact with their worldwide supporters and audience.

There have been no updates since May 2013

Will be interesting to see the website costs in the accounts this year

I wouldn't apologise Sceptic, I think it was done yesterday. The rest of your post is very valid.

Yes Sceptic, no big headline banner, flashing the news of a breakthrough, calling people to watch this most important event.

Have the McCanns updated their website yet with the revelation that Tanner's bundleman has been ruled out by the Met as Maddie's alleged abductor? I believe Kate wrote in her recently published book she was certain the man Tanner allegedly saw was the abductor? What now?

Still buoyed!

Post by Doug D on 01.05.15 18:20

Updates

May, 2015 - Update

Eight years. There's no gentle way of putting it. Whilst most days, weeks and months are fairly similar – Madeleine is missed every day – this time of year cuts deep as it's a harsh reminder of time having passed and precious years with Madeleine lost.
Without a shadow of doubt, the love, support, help and prayers that we continue to receive from so many people, in spite of the years which have gone by, encourages us, maintains our hope and lifts our spirits.
We are also buoyed and reassured by the unwavering commitment and continued progress being made in the investigation. We are really grateful to the Metropolitan Police team for their conscientiousness, patience, consideration shown to us and above all, their will to find Madeleine and determine what has happened.
Cooperation with and from the Portuguese Police has, and still is, vital to the success of the investigation. We are very appreciative of the joint working relationship established between the two forces.

Next month, I will be raising awareness again of the charity Missing People, and the many children who go missing every year. One child is too many. I will be taking part in a 500 mile charity cycle from Edinburgh to London and during this journey, I am hoping to promote the UK's Child Rescue Alert (CRA) system. If you can help me, please do by either donating at www.justgiving.com/KateMcCann/ and/or signing up to the CRA atwww.childrescuealert.org.uk

We've always promised ourselves that something positive has to come out of all the suffering Madeleine and our family have endured. If highlighting the issues of child abduction (and missing children in general) and raising money to enable the charity Missing People to carry out their invaluable work improves this very real and heartbreaking problem, then every push of those pedals will be worth it. Always.

Thank you again for your incredible and very humbling kindness and support.

Kate and Gerry

She has a £million to throw plus another half a million coming to her, why doesn't she set an example by donating the bulk of her windfall from litigation and blood money to this cause she is representing?

Why is she sitting on all this money when their private search is suspended?

We are very appreciative of the joint working relationship established between the two forces. Apart from Dr AMARAL, DCI Taveres de Almeida, the joint Public Prosecutors, the people who signed off the official report shelving the enquiry, and every judge since who has found that Dr Amaral has told the truth - obviously !

The Missing People bike ride is being sponsored by 'LexisNexis' - which describes itself as a 'risk management' business.

A bit like Control Risks Group, then, or Freemason Edward Smethurt's 'Palladium Associates'.

LexisNexis is owned by the company Reed Elsevier, about which Wikipedia has this to say:

Controversy[edit]

Boycott[edit]

Main articles: Elsevier § Criticism and controversies and Elsevier
Reed Elsevier has been criticised for the high prices of its journals and services, especially Elsevier and LexisNexis. It has also supported SOPA, PIPA and the Research Works Act, although it no longer supports the last. Because of this, members of the scientific community have boycotted Elsevier journals. In January 2012, the boycott gained an online pledge and petition (The Cost of Knowledge) initiated by mathematician and Fields medalist Sir Timothy Gowers.[19] The movement has received support from noted science bloggers, such as biologist Jonathan Eisen, and has been signed by thousands of scientists.[20]

Charging for and mislabelling Open Access material[edit]

Elsevier charges an Article Publishing Charge for open-access publication of scholarly articles, but open-access articles have not always been correctly labelled as open access online, with webpages hosting them claiming "All rights reserved". Due to labelling problems with a third-party tool, Elsevier has mistakenly charged fifty users for permission to use open-access articles, and is investigating whether other users were incorrectly charged.[21] These problems have persisted for over two years after being reported to Elsevier.[22][23][24] As of March 2014, Elsevier says it is working on improving open-access labelling, and it is refunding fees charged for open-access articles.[21] Legal action has been suggested by Peter Murray-Rust.[22][25]

Action against academics posting their own articles online[edit]

Digimarc, a company representing Elsevier, recently told the University of Calgary to remove articles published by faculty authors on university web pages; although such self-archiving of academic articles may be legal under the fair dealing provisions in Canadian copyright law, the university complied. Harvard University and the University of California, Irvine also received takedown notices for self-archived academic articles, a first for Harvard, according to Peter Suber.[26][27]

Privacy[edit]

Reed Elsevier collects, uses, and sells data on millions of consumers.[28] It has settled a Federal Trade Commission action taken against it, for failure to provide reasonable security for a database containing names, current and prior addresses, dates of birth, drivers license numbers and Social Security numbers, amongst other data. This information was obtained from credit reporting agencies and other sources, and made available to purchasers through a password-secured website which permitted easy-to-guess passwords, allowing identity thieves to steal records on over quarter of a million people. This breach occurred through a recently purchased subsidiary, Seisint.[29]

Defence exhibitions[edit]

Members of the medical and scientific communities, which purchase and use many journals published by Reed Elsevier, agitated for the company to cut its links to the arms trade. Two UK academics, Dr. Tom Stafford of Sheffield University and Dr Nick Gill, launched petitions calling on Reed Elsevier to stop organising arms fairs.[30] A subsidiary, Spearhead, organised defence shows, including an event where it was reported that cluster bombs and extremely powerful riot control equipment were offered for sale.[31][32]

In February 2007, Richard Smith, former editor of the British Medical Journal, published an editorial in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, arguing that Reed Elsevier's involvement in both the arms trade and medical publishing constituted a conflict of interest.[33] He suggested that if academics began to disengage with Reed Elsevier, the company would be likely to end their arms fairs, as arms fairs only comprise a small proportion of their business.

On 1 June 2007, Reed Elsevier announced that they would be exiting the Defence Exhibition business during the second half of 2007.[34]

I used to deal with LexisNexis all the time. The area I dealt with was the publishing of books relating to law, accountancy, human resources etc. They also offer online access to the latest releases in those subjects. Most large companies buy their products all the time. I didn't know about the 'risk management' part of their business. could that be related to insurance?

It is a bit like mushrooms - you dont know they are there until suddenly, they pop up!

I wonder sometimes if we are the ones that are in the "dark".

It seems the findmadeleine.com website updates section has had a bit of a spring clean and now only lists updates from June 2014 to May 2015.

28 April, 2015 - Statement from Gerry and Kate Regarding Libel Case

We want to emphasise that the action was never about money. It has always been focused on the effects of the libels on our other children and the damage that was done to the search for Madeleine.
A lot has changed in the last six years since we started the action and we are pleased that there is an active investigation in both Portugal and the UK.
We would like to remind people that there is still an innocent little girl who is missing and that those responsible for her abduction remain at large.

Gerry and Kate

Christmas, 2014

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of our supporters.
Once again we have been amazed this year by the support we continue to have for our search for Madeleine - and opening the hundreds of Christmas cards has once again been a truly humbling experience. The warmth, kindness and commitment to never forget has precipitated more than a few happy tears! Thank you.
It's hard to ignore that 'here we are again' feeling at this time of year, still with no idea where our daughter is or of what's happened. What we can say is that our resolve to find out, as well as the hope which has always been present, has not lessened. In addition it's very apparent that the determination of the Metropolitan Police remains steadfast, in spite of the persistent challenges they face.
No matter where she is, Madeleine will, as always, be very much with us and our family this Christmas.
Thank you for holding her in your hearts too.
Kate and Gerry

11 June, 2014 - Statement from Gerry and Kate

We are very pleased that significant activity has taken place in Praia da Luz over the last 8 days with police officers and support teams from the UK working closely with the Policia Judicial and the Guarda Nacional Republicana. We are further encouraged that, despite the intensive searches, no trace of Madeleine has been found and this reinforces our belief that she could still be alive. As parents of a missing child, we have always wanted all reasonable lines of enquiry to be followed and it is gratifying to know that a substantial amount of work will take place over the coming months with close cooperation of the British and Portuguese authorities. We would like to thank all those involved for their efforts and the members of the public who have come forward with information.

Gerry and Kate

11 June, 2014 - Update from Operation Grange

Operation Grange officers working alongside experts in their field from around the UK, the Policia Judicial and the Guarda Nacional Republicana today, Wednesday 11 June completed an eight day period of work searching specific areas of land in Praia da Luz.
At this time no evidence relating to Madeleine McCann has been identified. However it has given us an essential understanding of the activity on and people that have used this piece of land.
This was the first phase of this major investigation which has been agreed with the Portuguese following the four International Letters of Request submitted to date. More activity has been agreed and we expect that to commence shortly. In addition further requests are being compiled and will be submitted in due course.
The decision to search the “horse shoe” shaped piece of waste ground to the west of Praia da Luz and other sites was as a specific result of the UK’s investigation work to date.
The total area of land searched and surveyed was of approximately 60,000 sq metres and included all utilities, drainage channels and derelict buildings. 41 ground anomalies were identified initially by both aerial survey and ground analysis which were then investigated fully. These included three outside of the original area.
This deployment which was the largest ever undertaken by UK police overseas in a case of this type, highlighted the effective nature of the assistance given by the Portuguese authorities, for which the investigation team and family are very grateful.
The media’s understanding and co-operation following Assistant Commissioner Rowley’s pre deployment briefing has also been noted and appreciated.
There is still a substantial amount of work yet to be completed in the coming weeks and months, which again should be viewed as no more than normal operational activity in a case of this size and complexity. This recent work is part of ensuring that all lines of enquiry are progressed in a systematic manner and covers just the one hypothesis that she was killed and buried locally. This is the same as would be done in the UK for a murder or high risk missing person enquiry. The scientific support staff involved were there to provide the highest level of assurance that this area was searched to the highest possible standards.

All those company/charity logos and past enthusiastic updates have been 'whooshed'.

The online store is still open though.

ETA: The OG efits of Smithman were whooshed awhile ago.
