YesWoofer wrote:Yes extremely interesting and I can never figure out why as most of these details are available on the net. Its not as if the McCanns could sue the MSM for printing these details.Searcher wrote:Extraordinary that media omissions, time and again, include:
The actual distance to the tapas bar from apt. 5A : whether the front door
and patio door were left locked or unlocked 'So that Madeleine could get out
if needed. / So that Madeleine could not get out.' : The Smith sightings :
Katharine Gaspar statement : the evidence of the dogs : the reason for the
car boot being left open at night allegedly because of the odour : Mrs. Fenn's
witness statement that Madeleine cried for 75 minutes unattended : who was
the last adult to see Madeleine - DP at 6.45, or GM? : if an 'abductor' had just
been in the apt. how could KM leave it to rush over to the Tapas bar, with two
children on their own? : is it true that KM shouted 'They have taken her'? -
who did she think had taken her? : Why did GM/KM delete their phone records
on the night that Madeleine went missing? : What is made of the priest's alleged
statement "I have been deceived." Where is the priest these days? What happened
to his reported change of demeanour, from a warm outgoing man at the centre of his
parish and community, to a virtual recluse? : How has the Madeleine Fund been spent,
specifically, on the cost of private investigators? What has it covered? : Will the
Crimewatch reconstruction on 14 October include the exact time-line for an abductor
to do all that was necessary in a virtually impossible time-frame? : Why were the
twins not tested for sedatives until (I believe) six months after?
I know that all these issues and more have been raised here, and raised far more
coherently than I have listed them; but they do remain unanswered.
It`ll be interesting to see how Crimewatch present the details - didn`t Martin Brunt actually count out the number of footsteps from the Tapas to the back entrance? Will they point out that Madeleine`s bedroom was right round the other side of the apartment and impossible to see from Tapas Bar? Will they show the patio door locked or unlocked, will they show the twins left in the apartment when KM went running back to the Tapas, what will her words be? Will they show Gerry telling Mrs. Fenn that `a little girl has gone missing`? Will Mrs. Fenn have a plummy voice? There`s so much. Will there be hundreds of us on the phone to Crimewatch after the show?

I do not understand why so many forum members seem to be so negative and keep suggesting some sort of 'whitewash.' According to today's newspapers Scotland Yard appear (to me) to be getting on with their job, making headway and looking at relevant information, such as mobile phone records. Do people seriously expect to be kept 'fully informed' about the direction this investigation is taking and about what Scotland Yard really knows to be true?? Look at the difficulties SY face - a crime committed six years ago, on foreign soil and as yet no body. If SY were singing from the rooftops that the McCanns are their prime suspects, then that would be very strange and I believe far more worrying.
Please let's give Scotland Yard a chance!

My full support to Paddington
If SY announced any suspects -only one- the whole lot would have to be brought in
Let it fester, until the boils can be lanced all at the same time
Cut AR/SY some slack!

Well said Paddington. Although I think it's a self preservation mechanism in a case that stinks of corruption.

When we cut through all the spin bombarding us at the moment in the UK press, we come to the UK's obligations as an EU member under European Arrest Warrant legislation. It’s worth us remembering that the EAW, as we learnt back in 2007 when the McCanns bolted from Portugal, is a fast track system whereby one EU country can extradite a suspect quickly from another EU country. If a court in one country demands a person’s arrest and extradition, courts and police in other countries must act on it. Period. Should the Portuguese decide to re-open the case, charge the McCanns and issue an EAW IN THEORY there is NOTHING the UK government could do about it, UK police would be obliged to arrest them and hand them over to the Portuguese authorities. We shouldn’t forget that the spectre of the EAW has never gone away over the past 6 years - should Amaral win the libel trial, clearly the odds of the Portuguese re-opening the case and issuing an EAW would be shortened. Technically power lies with them.
Hence the McCanns' decision to hire the legal firm Kingsley Napley on their return to the UK back in 2007, the firm which defended Pinochet from extradition and of course KN lawyer Angus McBride appeared as a witness in the present libel trial.
For me, the only explanation for the absurd media circus over the last 6 years is that it’s a long-term never-ending strategy to fight the potential EAW extradition threat - maybe they believe that somehow they can whip up public support to make any idea of them being extradited unthinkable and somehow undermine EU rules by domestic political means Dunno. .As Kingsley Napley say on their website, next to a photo of Angus McBride - "We are well versed in managing relations with the media through both formal and informal means.".
I can honestly think of no other reason for all the media hullabaloo from parents who claim their first priority is to find out what happened to their daughter, whilst at the same time refusing to cooperate with the police force of that country by returning with their friends to the scene of the crime to do a proper reconstruction.

HQ for Madeleine’s hunt, at Belgravia police station in central London, Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood said: “We now believe we have the most complete picture to date surrounding her disappearance.”
The gathering momentum and the confidence in the statements suggests arrests may be imminent in the coming weeks.
Officers believe they have found “part of the needle” in the haystack and hope the BBC Crimewatch reconstruction produces more vital leads.
Today we can reveal the highly anticipated show was secretly filmed in Spain with actors because it would have attracted too much attention if shot in the holiday resort in Portugal
Not quite the same thing as the McCanns not allowing It.....is it?

A reminder that the Portuguese wanted to do a 'Crimewatch' style reconstruction back in 2008....
By Rod Chaytor
Cops ask Kate & Gerry McCann to do reconstruction on 'Crimewatch'

Madeleine reconstruction plan as Portugal detectives quiz the Tapas 7
Kate and Gerry McCann have been asked to return to Portugal to take part in a Crimewatch-style reconstruction of the disappearance of daughter Madeleine.
The Tapas Seven are also being asked to help. Yesterday, Portuguese police started to quiz the friends after flying to the UK.
Last night, McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell gave the police request a qualified welcome. But a family friend said it was "insensitive and distressing".
Ten months ago, Portuguese officers flatly refused to let BBC's Crimewatch stage a similar event.
It is believed they have now suggested that Kate, 40, and Gerry, 39, return to the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz following the first anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance on May 3.
Mr Mitchell said: "A proposal from Portuguese police is being considered by our lawyers. Kate and Gerry would welcome a re-enactment. It could be broadcast around the world and generate important new leads and information.
"But it would be untrue to say they've been called back."
However, the angry family friend hit back: "No thought appears to have been given to the emotional effect this would have on the parents, especially Kate.
"She's not sure she'd be mentally strong enough to walk back into Madeleine's bedroom in the holiday apartment and re-enact her reactions. She finds the idea deeply distressing.
"Would a lookalike play Madeleine - and how could Kate cope with that?
"If the reconstruction were to be broadcast, they might do it in the hope it might help the hunt for Madeleine.
"But if it was done in private, then their lawyers would question police motives."
Kate and Gerry, of Rothley, Leics, are still official suspects in the search for their four-year-old daughter.
Yesterday, Portuguese officers led by Paulo Rebelo, 45, sat in as Leicestershire detectives put prepared questions to the first of the Tapas Seven, who dined with the McCanns on the fateful night.
Jane Tanner, 37, of Exeter, Devon, claims she saw a man making off with a child in his arms on the night Madeleine vanished.
Her partner, consultant Dr Russell O'Brien, 36, will be the next to be quizzed at Leicestershire police HQ in Enderby.
Researcher David Payne, 41, and his wife Fiona, 41, of Leicester, David's mother Dianne Webster, 61, of Bedford, and Dr Matthew Oldfield, 37, and his wife Rachael, 36, of Richmond, Surrey, will follow. Each will be questioned purely as a witness.

Sorry Paddinton, but no can do. SY's starting point in the terms of reference for Operation Grange is the assumption that an abduction has taken place- in its remit it says: " It is to examine the case and seek to determine, (as if the abduction occurred in the UK) what additional, new investigative approaches we would take and which can assist the Portuguese authorities in progressing the matter."paddinton wrote:

Those eight words betray the political power pulling the strings behind all this. Any SY personnel on the case are starting with the assumption that there WAS an abduction, it says so in their brief.

Sorry JackieL but the way I read SY's remit is 'as if the abduction occurred in the UK'. Which is considerably different to 'that it was an abduction'. 'As if' is presumption, 'it was' is fact.

They did their own recon in Portugal, but refused the Yard's one with lame excuse. That would not go unnoticed by Yard as suspicious behavior.plebgate wrote:candyfloss wrote:If that comment that it would be 'too upsetting' is correct, and it in quotation marks so I have no need to doubt it, then I find it totally and unbelievable selfish. As you say plebgate, what about Madeleine, they should be moving heaven and earth to try and help - no stone unturned and all that eh. They have been harping on about no-one looking for Madeleine for the last 5 years, petitioned for a review which is costing millions and now they won't take part?? I thought nothing about this case could shock me anymore, but this is unbelievable, (if true of course).plebgate wrote:I do not care how upset they would be taking part in a recon. If it brings their missing daughter back surely that over rides EVERYTHING else.
Think of Maddie's feelings, how is she feeling, what is being done to her? - and they would be too upset to take part in a recon. WHAAATTTTT?
As you say (if true) UNBELIEVABLE.
They've painted themselves into a corner.

Vague and meaningless - words of not much value - and always the same without variation.
You expect doctor to be more eloquent than that, but NO, not this pair when it comes to this particular aspect.
Note the Police are equally vague, not once abduction or possible whereabout of abductor was mentioned.
I'd say it's time for them to pack their bag with a toothbrush in it.

Re: OPERATION GRANGE - Independent 4/10/13 SY Review Team says there's now *41* persons of interest, and they're trying with the help of Interpol to track mobile 'phones linked to 31 countries worldwide... *PLUS* A new Crimewatch TV appeal in FOUR countries
“I do not understand why so many forum members seem to be so negative and keep suggesting some sort of 'whitewash.'
I can. I think that it is perfectly understandable , given that so many scenario's in this case, even at a basic level, do not make sense. Combine that with the extraordinary level of support that the mccanns have had , from very wealthy people, whether in business, politics or in some section's of the media, and I think that it is even more understandable.
The mcccanns may have been a part of trying to silence the press through leveson, but they will never be able to stop people thinking and forming an opinion. They and their political and business supporter's would probably love to have a nation of unquestioning zombies, who believe their every word. That would be very convenient for all of them.
That should never be allowed to happen. We need a free press. A press that is free to give alternative opinion's.

It is very difficult not to think of a whitewash, when so many questions in the
public domain for so long are still not being mentioned by SY or the media.

It would be a very sorry state of affairs, if we have honest police officer's trying to do their job's to the best of their ability, but who are being pointed in completely the wrong direction, by people who have something to hide.

It's two and a half years since Operation Grange began and we've learned little more than how many £millions of taxpayers' money they've spent and the fact that Madeleine might be 'alive or dead'. Now, just as the McCann libel trial arrives, and the moment the defence is about to put their witnesses on the stand, all of a sudden Scotland Yard are saying they're 'ready to make arrests' (according to today's screaming front-page headline on the Daily Mirror). This seems like a remarkable coincidence to me.

And it's a full & complete vindication of Dr Amarals position in and out of Court: he did in no way hinder any search

Very true, Portia. Both Scotland Yard's recent leakings and the numerous 'sightings' of Madeleine reported in the press in the years since Amaral's book was published suggest that Madeleine has continued to be more 'searched for' by ordinary members of the public than pretty much any missing person since Lord Lucan.
