That photo of a haunted-looking Kate McCann on Day One of the Trial - by Royal Photographer John Stillwell
[this corrects an earlier post on the same topic that I've deleted]
An outspoken Portuguese writer journalist with strong views on the Madeleine McCann case gave evidence on Day 4 at the current trial: ISABEL STILWELL (three l's).
At the beginning of the trial, several British newspapers published a picture of a very haunted-looking Dr Kate McCann (sorry, don't know how to upload it here).
This photograph of Kate McCann appears to have been a carefully posed photograph taken by one JOHN STILLWELL (four l's).
It appears that this is John Stillwell, a Press Association photographer, ‘Royal Photographer’ and wedding cake photographer:

.
I assume the two are not related, despite the almost identical names.

Identical names do seem to crop up a fair bit Tony. Lots of Mccanns with no connection to each other too.
Can someone please paste a copy of the photo of Mrs. Can't remember which thread it was on.
I did wonder where that photo came from.

The photo of Kate looking haunted can be seen on this ITV link, third photo down:
http://www.itv.com/news/central/story/2013-09-12/madeleine-mccann-kate-mccann-gerry-mccann-portugal-leicestershire/
Yes, NFWTD, it could well be a library photograph that has been used before, though I don't recall it.
It looks as though the photograph may have been 'posed', maybe in a studio - rather than having been taken when she was in public somewhere. If John Stillwell is trusted to take Royal photos, he must be at the very top of his profession.

British investigation focused on answering Madeleine McCann questions
Emma Murphy: Europe Correspondent

Madeleine McCann disappeared in Portugal six years ago. Photo: Family Handout
What happened to Madeleine McCann? How many times has that question been asked in the six years since she disappeared? How many times have you wondered it yourself or asked others?
It is likely only one person really knows the answer, and finding that person is now the focus of a British investigation led by officers from the Metropolitan Police, funded by the Government.
For the last two years they’ve studied all the documents and interviewed witnesses. Some have offered new information.
As a result detectives say there are now 38 people they want to talk to in the hope of finding out what happened. All were in Portugal at the time Madeleine disappeared and now live there, in the UK or in three other European countries. Twelve are British.

Police are understandably cautious but it is a significant development in a case that haunts and endures. They continue to insist that in the absence of any evidence to the contrary they believe she may still be alive.
British officers have now visited Portugal 16 times and are working through more than 30,000 documents.
They have ruled out any involvement of Kate and Gerry McCann or the seven friends who were holidaying with them.

The review has taken in evidence from British officers asked to look into parts of the case, from the Portuguese and from the seven teams of private investigators hired by the McCanns to find their daughter.
For their part the McCanns have welcomed the shift from review to investigation.
The investigation is being done with the full co-operation of the Portuguese.
A number of British officers have been and will be based in Portugal as the investigation continues but their work is fraught with difficulty as a result of working across different countries and different legal jurisdictions.

Madeleine was three-years-old when she vanished from the family’s holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort of Praia De Luz in May 2007. In the years since there have been many reported sightings but no clear lead.
The Portuguese investigation was closed in 2008. Under Portuguese law it could only be re-opened if significant new evidence came to light

– DCI Andy Redwood, leading the Madeleine McCann caseThe review has given us new thinking, new theories, new evidence and new witnesses.
We, and the Portuguese authorities, remain completely committed to finding out what happened to Madeleine and everything we do is utterly focused on her best interests.
We continue to believe that there is a possibility that Madeleine is alive. It is a positive step in our hunt for Madeleine that our understanding of the evidence has enabled us to shift from review to investigation.

It looks like the McCanns were in a televison studio somewhere.
So was John Stillwell in the studio with them, perhaps taking various shots to make a library of photos that he could use on other occasions?

Hi The shot is NOT a studio shot , its the shot above the one with Gerry that has had the tungsten [ about 10 % of the yellow taken out in photoshop ] it was initially shot under 100 / sec shutter speed no flash, hence it picked up yellow hue . it has been cropped also and the usage would have been production still's for any promo stuff. all TV shows shoot them .
BTW Small world . Emma Murphy used to work on our local paper .
The Royal snapper John Stillwell . Royal snappers work in rota's . he can hold a camera. but royal snappers are more a safe pair of hands than wizz kids , ie it will be in focus, and he won't call the Queen a c@@@ !!! .

Talking of payments, would be interesting to know how much (if anything) they have been paid by the various tv companies for their interviews?

Those pictures were from the Daybreak appearance they did for the launch of the review IIRC. We all got up early to watch it and then, as usual, they said nothing new or interesting and it was a big disappointment.

PA; pay the press so many Millions per year for them to use there stock , the snappers then get a percentage of any future usage . [ so a film premier for EG they use PA'S pics or Getty etc. in the first instance / usage for free , after that depends on size and where it is positioned ] an employee of PA is paid a daily rate it will be say £200 per day basic in London , but there money is made up by re sale commissions .Tony Bennett wrote:1. I would have had that haunted look the same day or the day after my daughter had been "abducted", not 6 years later!Tony Bennett wrote:1. Although the McCanns keep telling us there is no evidence that Madeleine has come to any harm, so KM is obviously not worried about what has happened to Madeleine, so the only other explanation for her haunted look is what the trial is going to reveal.

Deleted. As I mentioned the other day when comments were made about Philomena, I don't think comments about peoples appearance are really necessary.

It might just be a badly timed picture but, to me, it looks like Gerry loathes Kate and can barely stand to be near her.

Has he been covering up for her for all this time ?Poe wrote:It might just be a badly timed picture but, to me, it looks like Gerry loathes Kate and can barely stand to be near her.
We could understand if this were so. He might even gain some sympathy for supporting his wife.
But since then he has returned to work, but she has given up and has led a life of public adulation, running, jogging, being an "ambassador" whatever the hell that means.
Perhaps he has had enough.
Particularly when she has been so close to spilling the beans so often.

Well Michael Wright did testify that GM had `had enough`. I took that to mean he`d had enough of covering up for someone.PeterMac wrote:Has he been covering up for her for all this time ?Poe wrote:It might just be a badly timed picture but, to me, it looks like Gerry loathes Kate and can barely stand to be near her.
