Do you suppose GM has been sitting at home tearing his hair out at what his witnesses have said so far? Or has ID been on the phone telling him, he'd better get himself over there because this lot are useless?

Yep - Superman to the rescue - He`ll put them straight alright.

Just hoping if he does manage to manipulate the Judge into letting him testify, that the defence lawyers get to cross examine him.

Gerry McCann is hoping to give evidence at a £1million libel trial over Goncalo Amaral’s book that claimed the missing youngster died in their Algarve holiday apartment in May 2007.

“I can confirm Gerry McCann is hoping to give evidence” Clarence Mitchell

The heart specialist has asked to be heard as a witness at the hearing in Lisbon today but Judge Maria Emilia Melo e Castro must approve it before he can take the stand.

Gerry hopes to the tell the court how the “awful, malicious lies” in Amaral’s 2008 book The Truth Of The Lie hindered the worldwide search for her and caused anguish to him and wife Kate, both 45.

The McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said last night: “I can confirm Gerry McCann is hoping to give evidence.”

But quite clearly, he was quoting what other people had said.

I have no time for either of the McCanns, but let's not go on record on this forum as saying they've said things which they haven't Sad

Nice to see the Tory PCC Mitchell is still speaking for the McCanns.
Presumably he is therefore still getting paid by them.

From the 'fund'?

The 'fund' that Clarence Mitchell said that people/donators could be absolutely reassured that it was not being used for anything other. like legal fees or paying spokes people, than 'searching' for Madeleine.

My father-in-law used to say that if you want to have something well done, you have to do it yourself.
Imo it is what is bringing Gerry to Lisbon.
He is coming to correct the often  disatrous statements of his witnesses and Alipio Ribeiro's silence, and he thanks God that Kate did not state.

There are moments when he really believes in Him.

What a life, what a life!

And where is Mitchell, who followed the couple since the beginnig?
Is he not stating?

If he is there to 'correct' previous witnesses sworn court evidence/statements, does that mean some witnesses haven't told the truth in their evidence to the court?

The judge won't take kindly to her perhaps being misled by previous witnesses, will she?

This latest press release from the desk of Mr Tinty-Head is yet another example of the all my eye and Betty Martin that runs through the various accounts given from day one, and throughout the intervening years, by the McCanns and their family members, cronies, cohorts, and paid employees, like the lettering in a stick of rock.

IMO no lawyer would advise these particular clients to subject themselves to the rigours of cross examination in any Court of Law while there is any risk of subsequent arrest on criminal charges and, more particularly, when reading from the 'bewk' and the use of a 'memory helper' has been been discouraged by the judge in this current case.

Should Gerry fetch up in Lisbon later today I expect a repeat of Suicide Kate's performance outside the court as the Deeply Depressed one announces he's 'here today for money Madeleine and obviously he strongly hopes for justice... blah de blah' before grinning like a loon as soon as he believes he's off camera.

Any attendance Gerry makes at this trial today or any other day will little be more than gesture politics designed to avoid any adverse comment about his continued absence while 'brave Kate seeks the truth', or similar sycophantic drivel of the type the long-suffering British public has become accustomed to reading about this odious couple in the popular press.

Ah .... but I bet some manipulation of rules will be allowed in this special case, for this special man.
It's clear what is happening.
The change in rules in Sept allows for new witnesses to be added during proceedings.

It's apparent their ship is sinking, so ID has changed strategy.
Gerry was submitted as witness serving the 10 days notice, so ID is waiting for court to approve his application - as simple as that.

If Kate was rejected as reported, it could only be notice wasn't served.

The 10-day notice is there for a purpose, to allow time for Court to inform other parties, and to allow time for the other parties to prepare as necessary.

Gerry McCann will tomorrow come face to face with the Portuguese police chief who accused him and wife Kate of covering up their daughter’s death.
The heart specialist is hoping to give evidence in the couple’s explosive £1m libel trial against shamed cop Goncalo Amaral.

[snipped]

Gerry, 45, has submitted a request to be heard as a witness to a court in Lisbon hearing the case.
Judge Maria Emilia Melo e Castro must approve the request before the trial restarts tomorrow morning.

Gerry’s sister Trish Cameron has been confirmed as a witness.

Kate, 45, attended the start of the case a fortnight ago with relatives including her mum Susan Healy and cousin Michael Corner.

But her plans to give evidence were scuppered when the judge failed to rule on whether she could take the witness stand.

Gerry’s decision to apply to give evidence is thought to be related to her frustrated hopes of speaking at the hearing.
Twisting the truth to mislead the public as usual.

If she couldn't take the stand it must be because her application did not serve notification period.
Hence, Gerry is waiting for Court to approve his submission.

It is believed a recent change in the law in Portugal now allow complainants in civil cases to give evidence.

If allowed to give evidence, Gerry is expected to tell the court how Mr Amaral’s claims hindered the ongoing search for Madeleine.

If Court approves it, why not - that is if it is true he was submitted as witness.
You never can tell with their stories - always take it with a large bucket of salt.

It wont surprise me if crass bully Marinho Pinto is going to chicken out to be replaced by Gerry.
Not only because of his pussyfooting around then failing to serve proper on top of that, but because both ID and him (MP) must have realised this Court is not the right platform to bad mouth Amaral.

Did he really overlook the notice period?  Did ID also overlook that?  Two top lawyers overlooking this basic?

ID and MP may be cosy matey, but ID must know MP is a liability.
His loud mouth gibberish bad mannered bad mouthing way renders him a person non-grata in his field .
She would be negligent if she hadn't noticed her bunch of witnesses' hearsay was seen through in Court, or if she failed to notice the Judge had them on short leash.

ID is up to  some dirty trick if she's exchanging one crass bully for another arrogant little prat as witness.
I could be wrong.  But imagine two arrogant fable tellers on the witness stand, each one known for their special brand of folly?
A disaster waiting to happen.

It's so right that there should be notification period  --  it serves as warning that the BIGGEST Porkie Teller is about to hit the Court with his tsunami of lies.

Bring him on.....I say......

Eta:  Gee, what a relief people wont have to put up with Kate turn-on contorted sad face.  HOORAY.

I cant wait for him to take the witness stand .......

Why didn't she approve before?

Oh I see its THE JUDGES FAULT!

The mccanns are never at fault of course, silly me.

Hmm , Kate wasn't heard, even though she showed up!

Eyes on Gerry to see if he laughs too when entering the court, like Kate did.

Will they REALLY be questioned??
