Forbidden connections

Post by tigger on Thu Sep 26, 2013 8:07 am

It's always struck me that quite a lot of obviously associated  facts are never mentioned.

To start: golf

Four golf courses near PdL  -   Gerry is an avid golfer
He gave the priest Seddon a set of St. Andrew 's golf clubs.
The head of his NHS trust played golf with him.
Gerry went to Portugal on golfing trips.

Car night of the 3rd:
Why is there no mention of the parked cars in the road next to 5a?
Why is there no hint or suggestion that  a car parked either in the car park or in the road was used to kidnap the child?
It's easily the most likely and safest for a kidnapper. But both sightings are of  a man on foot.
A grey car was mentioned but I  don't recall by whom.
No cars in the road were mentioned in the lengthy discussions on.GM and JW's meeting.

A close associate, the lawyer Smethurst appears to have a holiday flat nearby. This fact afaik is not mentioned in the book if at all by TM. Yet this person was from the start one of  the directors of the Ltd. Co.  Why is this convenient holiday flat never mentioned?
Surely as the Ltd.Co was set up within about twelve days, one would expect a line such as: we were lucky to have S on board, who by chance knew the area well and had been there for holidays for the past x years...

I`ve always queried the `abduction by a pedestrian rather than in a vehicle`.  If a kidnapper was going to snatch a child he would obviously have a car close - how stupid would a kidnapper have to be to snatch a child and walk through the streets with her.  That story was invented to frame Murat IMO, so they have to steer clear of introducing the idea of a car being used.

Forgotten about Smethurst having a flat nearby - yes, agree, if they`re innocent, why not mention this.

Tigger, the saintly Ed Smethurst didn't officially meet the equally saintly McCanns until September 2007 and he didn't become a director of the fund until January 2008.

What a shame they didn't know each other in May 2007 - perhaps he could have arranged reliable babysitters for all the Tapas children..........

Thanks, even so, there's never been a connection made between the holiday flat in PdL and E.S.  If one of the people you've appointed as director of your company has long-standing links with the very place where you've lost your child, you'd think it would be mentioned.

The car issue was looked into by the PJ, who would also think that if there was an abduction, a car would be a necessity.
Would have been simple, out of the front door, in the car park, a matter of seconds instead of an uncomfortable walk and I don't recall TM stippling out the various routes Eggman could have taken, there can't be that many since PdL is a small place.
Even days later this could have been explored.
