She is indeed - there is a pic on twitter, but alas do not know how to c/p, and wearing two good quality wristbands. I would imagine Goncalo Amaral stepping out into the limelight has irked her. It will be an interesting few days. Should add, if at all possible, Gerry has gone down even further in my estimation, if he is letting her face it alone.

Yes, I've seen it, the chap who took is said she was just boarding his plane today. If you look at the #McCann hashtag it is there.

So, she is attending, looks like the report posted this week on the forum was wrong about that, so the report might have been wrong when it stated that it would be held behind closed doors.

On the other hand, her attendance could be a sign that it will be held behind closed doors. Just have to wait and see.

Wonder where he is? Surely he would not let her go through this alone?

If SY did advice her not to attend, then she has taken no notice of them. What does the spokesperson have to say about that then?

Mrs McCann, who is travelling to Portugal for the hearing, could have been called as a witness but is not expected to give evidence. Instead, a number of relatives will appear in the witness box. They will give evidence relating to the "damage" caused by Mr Amaral's book which, they claim, poisoned public opinion in Portugal against the family and allegedly deterred people from hunting for Madeleine.

Kate McCann to attend libel case

The mother of missing Madeleine McCann is expected to attend a Portuguese court for the start of the family's libel action against a former local police chief.

Kate McCann will be accompanied by her mother Susan Healy for the first hearing of the case against Goncalo Amaral who published a book making allegations about the three-year-old's disappearance.

Possible she has been subpoenaed but where is he and why wouldn't he have been? He might be there yet, but travelled separately.

I guess Kate is attending alone on legal advice ,so it can be spun exactly as the Express has already by the looks of it done . , " Kate to be a victim of these terrible accusations ," Brave Kate faces tormentor etc .".

Sadly it seems we are to be fed this S@@t in the British press for the next few weeks now .

I just hope Amaral pulls ' the rabbit from his sleeve , he always alluded to " and humiliates both The McCann's and at the same time show's the British Police investigation for what it really is .

But even if that is the case, i think the fund IMO has found its way into a few hack's back pockets, so it will be brushed aside as the ranting of some mad foreign copper with issues .

Just read he is staying home to look after the kids and he has work commitments. What a weasel!

One witness is named as Michael Wright. I have a feeling he was one of the named drivers of the hire car - think he is cousin's husband or something like that, as I recall from the book he was out in PDL helping for a while.

Yes Cristobel, I just read the report citing work commitments.

He did apparently say he had found it hard to work his triathlon training around his work commitements, but hey he did manage to do the triathlon as it raised awareness of other peoples' missing family?????

So Mrs. wont be testifying, Mr. wont be, but members of the family will be.

I don't think so. Gone are the adjectives, bungling, corrupt, disgraced etc usually attached to Goncalo's name, its fairly straight forward reporting. It is alerting readers to the news still come out, tomorrow is Day 1, but more follows over the next few weeks. Slowly, slowly, catch the monkey!

Two named witnesses so far are Michael Wright (cousin) and Dave Edgar. Don't know how those two are going to prove Goncalo's book harmed the search.

It will be much easier for him to direct the media from the UK. IMO that is why, in 2010, he abandoned the hearing and his wife and came back. Not for work commitments - which would have been sorted long before the hearing - that was just an excuse for his sudden departure. He was furious and had to get back to the UK asap to pressure the media into some positive coverage, and the Daily Mail obliged with a cringing two page spread)

@Taspirin - maybe the Express will do an accurate report from the courts, they do seem interested in proceedings.

How awful this picture: it has dr McCann sporting whiskers, a beard and a lot of pimples. It is very, very unflattering. Wonder how this came about.
