I wonder if he managed to keep a straight face when he said that.

Mind you, he should be an expert on that after all these years with the McCanns.

I no longer have any faith whatsoever in the Metropolitan police. They'll stop young black guys (just because they're black) hundreds of times over without a shred of evidence that they've done anything wrong, yet these people..the tapas9.. left a young child alone in an unlocked flat at night, then lied, then refused to cooperate with police and went on to make millions from her disappearance.... the Met take over the inquiry and don't even want to talk to any of them. Absolutely incredible.

Explain in a clear way all the inconsistencies in the statements,
Explain why they are not looking at the dogs findings,
Explain who died in 5A,
Explain why did the Portuguese made the couple arguidos (if they now have said they're not suspects ),
Explain the deleted phone calls / texts...
This is just too stupid.

Thats what I was wondering Peter.  Surely the police will have to explain everything that led to them being made arguidos.  And arrests will lead to a public trial when all the evidence will have to be proved.  How can they pin it on 12 random people?

I think too many are jumping to conclusions and calling it a "whitewash". I don't think for one moment it is. This is HUGE and is going to take a long time yet, before we know what is going on, but I STILL stand by "follow the money", and look at ALL who are involved.

I found this part of the statement, interesting:

Detectives are at an early stage of the new investigation, known as Operation Grange, and arrests are not expected in the immediate future.

Its interesting that its says in many of the articles the SY are opening their own investigation. Is it possible that PJ and Portugal are not actually on board with all this, just letting SY get on with whatever BS they like.

DCI Redwood said: "There is no clear, definitive proof that Madeleine McCann is dead.

"On that basis I genuinely believe there is a possibility she is still alive. And so I would like to ask the public to continue to look for her."

Read his actual words, not what you think he meant.

His statement is actually weak.

he does not tell us there is no proof Madeleine is dead only that there is NO CLEAR AND DEFINITIVE proof.
Additional words, known as qualifiers, weaken a statement.
Here we see not one but 2 qualifiers further weakening the statement.
Clear and definitive proof of death would be a body, you can't get clearer or more definitive than that.
A body is what we don't have.

He doesn't tell us there is NO proof Madeleine is dead, he cannot say that, given the reactions of the two dogs and the forensic evidence  found in the apartment and hire car.
That evidence exists and has been recorded, it is circumstantial evidence of death.
Circumstantial evidence, although not as strong as actual evidence (a body, witnesses to the crime, being caught in the act etc) it however, can be enough to get a conviction if there is enough to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the crime was committed by the person accused.

Next, notice how weak his statement is in regard to Madeleine being possibly alive.
Again a strong statement would be i know Madeleine is alive, or i believe Madeleine is alive.

I believe leaves it open for others to believe otherwise, this can be though knowledge or from evidence.
He weakens it with the qualifier GENUINELY which although it sounds like a strong statement is rather weakened by it.
Can he fake believe she is alive?

The evidence indicates a death in the apartment, the record of the dogs is such that it would be unusual for them to give a false positive in the mccann apartment and not in any other apartment and only to their car and not any other car, and to cuddlecat and items of clothing and not to toys or clothing from other people.
The evidence is such that the mccanns were forced to explain away what was found rather than the fact the dogs were wrong (when gerry tried by using a murder case in America it backfired spectacularly when the killer admitted the dogs had been right all along)

If there was no evidence why did the mccanns come up with explanations for why evidence was found rather than the expected there is no evidence.

And at the start of a sentence indicates missing information, the AND comes right after telling us there is a possibility she is alive, so what is he not telling us?
Looking at what he said in regard to proof of death and belief in life.
He knows.

Would is future conditional.
Expected, if he believed Madeleine was alive, is I WANT the public to keep looking for her.
He cannot ask that since he knows (given the evidence, the behavior of the parents and tapas 7, the statistics etc) that Madeleine is long dead.
He would like us to look for a live Madeleine, now, what does he WANT us to do in reality?

SO is used to explain why something was said/done.

They want to investigate and have the powers to interview these 38 people. Once they have interviewed them all then where do they go? Back to the statements.

It strikes me that this is simply a transfer of investigative powers from Portugal to the UK and that once these 38 "persons of interest" have been interviewed then they can have a look at the Tapas mob without fear of the same accusations that befell the PJ.

They appear to be working from the back to the front.
NO The Police don't categorically rule everybody out , then back in again , especially in a case this high profile .
Portugal is skint they have rolled over . and the Yard are , bowing to the celebrity status of the McCann's .

I agree, slopping. That's why I hope that SY has to go to the monthly "bow for the Holy Kate" festival, and that she will be in all their nightmares.

People, wake up, there are too many "VIPs" who don't want to look stupid involved. Kate has not only Gerry by the balls, but the SY and a whole lot more.

I was under the impression that the only people milling around the dark deserted streets at 9-10pm that night were the tapas lot.  maybe there was a fishermans convention going on in the street at that time, at least it would explain the seabass behind the sofa scenario. I was just going to post similar.

Does it not strike some people as perculiar that a point is being made that the McCanns are not considered amongst the 38 "persons of interest"? Why make a song and dance about that given that the case hasn't been solved?

The case will have to be closed as a whitewash for me to actually conclude it is so. Until then, I remain optimistic.

If there was any slightest idea that the McCanns were involved wouldn't the MET keep quiet.  Why would they give out all this information now?  We don't hear endless news updates on any other MET investigations, none that I can think of anyway.

I think this says far more than some realise. Often, you have to cross a lot of water to get to the island, so, at the moment, I completely understand why they say they aren't interested in the McCann's and their friends, who were with them on holiday............they can wait!

PJ versus Scotland Yard

Post by marconi on 04.07.13 14:58

I don't believe the PJ would allow England to again make a fool of them, at the eyes of the world.

There must be an agreement between both police.

What irritates me is that this will take longer than I thought but the SY will have the right to squeeze Tapas 9.

The McCanns must regret their pressure on the British government.

Kate must regret her book. They never thought the case would get this far.

I wonder how this will affect the trial with GA.  The only thing I can think of is that the McCanns are being kept out of the loop at the moment to let the trial go ahead.   I can't see GA settling with a handout, it would look like that he is bowing down to the McCanns when it was them who brought the case and it wouldn't allow his book to be published in the UK, unless one of the conditions of a settlement he makes is that his book is printed all over Europe and he gets a public apology from them.  GA seemed determined to get the McCanns into a court, though, at the beginning.

British police have formally asked the Crown Prosecution Service to submit an International Letter of Request to Portuguese authorities for assistance in obtaining evidence relating to their inquiries.!!!!!!

And what about the Portuguese request for the Tapas credit card records and medical records of the Mccann family?....

Not really sure what to think

I can see that they wouldn't alert prime suspects and would say McCanns and Tapas crew aren't suspects if it was genuine investigation but its the stating M could be alive that makes me doubt if it is. They dogs are usually believed in the UK.

IFit is a whitewash then it is of such a magnitude that IMO it can only be for the darkest of reasons connected to high profile people and all the more reason to fight on.

I don't read that article in a way that it paints the McCanns as heroes?
There are several perhaps cleverly worded phrases in there?
Even the final sentence could be a twin-edged sword?
Also, is the 'A' word conspicuous by it's absence?

Whatever happens next with the inquiry, it is the tenacity of Kate and Gerry McCann which has created what amounts to the best opportunity yet of finally finding the truth about the disappearance of Madeleine.

Surely if they wanted to flush them out, the met should keep them in the dark, but under very close scrutiny.
