The Control Risks Group member who gave evidence at the Lee Balkwell inquest
On holiday in Wales last week, I took as holiday reading the 1,000-page transcript of the Inquest touching on the death of Lee Balkwell. Sounds a bit weird, I know, but it's a job I really have to do in connection with the I.P.C.C. ongoing investigation into Essex Police into this matter - and one needs something to do in the not-infrequent times it rains in west Wales.
I came across this excerpt, which meant nothing to me at the time [30 January 2008] as my researches into the disappearance of Madeleine were then at an early stage and I hadn't yet come across any mention of Control Risks Group.
EXTRACT FROM TRANSCRIPT OF 30 JANUARY 2010:
MARK JOHN BUXTON sworn.
CORONER: It is right, is it not, that you are a senior consultant in the video laboratory of Network Foresnic, which is part of the Control Risks Group, is that right?
MARK JOHN BUXTON: Yes, I specialise in providing expertise in the enhancement, analysis and authentication of video material, primarily in criminal cases for both the police and defence teams. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree, a BTec, HNC and ONC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
I am a fellow of the Institute of Incorporated Engineeers. I have successfully completed the Police Air Reconnaissance Imagery Analsysis course at the Joint School of Photographic Interpretation in Bedfordshire. Before coming into this field I served in the Royal Navy for 25 years, undertaking a broad spectrum of electronic engineering work and my career in the Navy culminated as the Weapons Engineer Officer of a nuclear submarine.
Since 1999 I have been employed by Network Forensic in this field of video examination...my company is listed in the Law Society Expert Witness Directory, I am registered with the National Police Improvement Agency...and am in the process of appication for registration with the Council for the Registration of Forensic Practitioners...since I wrote this report in 2005 I was engaged by the Metropolitan Police to carry out all of the video editing in the case that was known as Operation Crevice. This was a fertiliser bomb trial that lasted just over a year at the Old Bailey...

P.S. His evidence at the Lee Balkwell case touched on allegations that Essex Police had tampered with a CCTV that police seized from the premises between South ockendon nd Upminster where Lee Balkwell died at around 1.00am on Friday 18 July 2002.
