This topic might better be listed under McCann Case - important disinformation, rather than important information.

Wikipedia is supposed to be a site where one can obtain reliable, neutral, information on any subject.

However, this is what they currently say about the events of 3 May 2007 - I'll place it here for discussion as to how the entry might be improved/corrected:

++++++++++++=

QUOTE

Madeleine disappeared from a ground floor apartment, where the family was staying, on the evening of 3 May 2007. The apartment had been rented by the holiday company Mark Warner for the summer season as part of its Ocean Club.

The layout of the Ocean Club may have contributed to the disappearance of Madeleine as its buildings are spread out across the village, such that anyone can wander in and out of the holiday areas.[13]

Her parents reported to the police that they had taken Madeleine to their holiday apartment at 18:00 Western European Summer Time, to prepare Madeleine and her two-year-old twin siblings for bed.[14] Then they left at 20:30, leaving the apartment unlocked, to dine with friends approximately 130 yards (120 metres) away at a tapas bar within the Mark Warner Ocean Summer Club.[1][15]

The McCanns said that they were taking turns checking on their children. At 20:55, one of the McCanns' dinner companions, Matthew Oldfield, approached the bedroom window of the children to check if he could hear any noise in the room and at approximately 21:05/21:15 Gerry checked on the children.

At 21:20 Jane Tanner noticed a man carrying a child going down the road next to the apartment of the McCanns.

Slightly further down the road, Gerry was chatting to Jeremy Wilkins, whom he had met at the resort, and neither noticed Tanner as she walked past them to join the rest of the group at the tapas restaurant.[16] At 21:30 Matthew Oldfield went to check the children but saw only the twins through the open bedroom door.[17]

At around 22:00, Kate returned to check on the children and found Madeleine's bed empty and the bedroom window open.[18] An Ocean Club nanny, Charlotte Pennington, who was one of the first people to arrive at the apartment, said that Kate screamed both "They've taken her, they've taken her!" and "Madeleine's gone!".[19] Kate said that the police were called within 10 minutes of finding her daughter gone.[20] Gerry said it was one of their friends who alerted the resort manager and the police.[21]

The GNR’s spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Costa Cabral, said that the first call to the police (PJ) was at 23:50.[22][23] According to the Portuguese police's missing person notice, the disappearance had occurred "by 22:40".[24]

The police stated that officers arrived within 10 minutes of being alerted, and an investigation unit began work within 30 minutes.[17] Staff and guests at the complex searched until 04:30 while police on the Spanish border and all airports UNQUOTE in Portugal and Spain were notified.[25]

The entry at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madeleine_McCann
is far too long for posting here, 7,500 words, but does include some of the criticisms of the Police, the McCanns themselves, and does not, IMHO take too partisan an approach.
I think we could include some more of the questions raised by the "hypothesis", and the "assumption", given that there are proper references for those two expressions, and a link to the MF site might be a good way to show the impartiality of the piece overall.
The various 'questions' booklets might also be referred to.

Some things that I found interesting:

Reward £2.5m ($3.8m) source: "Madeleine reward rises to £2.5m", BBC News, 12 May 2007 Wow that's really (not) new,the update on the reward value

In the description of Madeleine: The McCanns applied to have her made a ward of court in 2007 so that the court's statutory powers can be used on her behalf.
Source: Gordon Rayner, "Madeleine McCann: parents' court bid for information", The Daily Telegraph, 20 June 2008.
How does this fit in to the description of a person?!
In the description of Kate and Gerry: Both are practising Roman Catholics.
Source: "madeleine" by Kate Mccann How does this fit in to the description of a person? Oh yes to gain sympathy, well that don't works with me.

Thursday, 3 May 2007 :The parents left the apartment at 20:30 to dine with their friends at the resort's open-air tapas restaurant, which lay 50 metres (54 yards) as the crow flies on the other side of the pool from their apartment; according to Kate. Open air, what about the plastic cover?Conveniently forgotten,again...

Gonçalo Amaral: The officer in charge of the case from May until October 2007 was Gonçalo Amaral, head of the regional Polícia Judiciária. On 10 June 2007 Amaral was charged, along with four other officers, with offences related to the 2004 disappearance of Joana Cipriano. Amaral was not present when she was allegedly beaten, but was accused of having covered up for others.

My personal comment to this part: The trial ended on May 22, 2009, in Faro with the acquittal of three inspectors, of all the crimes they were accused - Leonel Marques, Paulo Pereira Cristovao and Paulo Marques Bom and the conviction to year in prison with probation, Gonçalo Amaral by false allegations. António Nunes Cardoso, who wrote the report saying that Leonor Cipriano had been thrown down the stairs of the facilities of PJ, was sentenced to two years and three months in prison for forgery of a document, with a suspended sentence of two years. A question:

Wikipedia info is entered by who?

The subject themselves or third party?

Wiki was an ingenious way and the main way that Ryan Giggs' extramarital shenanegans came out. Lots of people were outing him via his Wiki entry and even when the allegations were removed it was clear that he was the premier league footballer in question with the superinjunction due to the huge recent editing history on his entry.
