For what he's done it would serve him right if he gets killed in prison. Being a father myself this sickens me. Completely unacceptable and people like this don't even deserve a cell in prison , they only deserve a hole in the f**king ground. Sick sick f*cker.

Let us remember this was not a "Child under the age of 10" This was a tiny BABY.
How much more serious could this possibly be !
Life is certainly appropriate, with a tariff of a very long time, say 25 years before Parole licence can be considered.

Then we'll hear from the "can we afford to / why should we pay to keep him in prison for 25 years" brigade".

Can we afford NOT to keep him locked away from society for good -can we afford to have him out in 5 years to offend again, and again?

No, we can't afford not to keep these people isolated from other humans. Anyone who thinks a child rapist should ever have liberty again must be very sick in the head. I asked in another thread if there could be a genetic underpinning for this monstrous aberration./

If it is, these monsters should never be allowed to breed EVER.

I have seen many documentaries with regards to the psychiatric treatment/rehabilitation of paedophiles. There is nothing I have seen to convince me any of it works. I have seen paedophiles indulged in speaking about their crimes. I have seen paedophiles lie about their crimes - because in their minds it's not a crime.

I'm all for sending a convicted child/baby rapist to an island in the frozen north, surrounded by a rough sea, with no electricity, given a bag of seeds, a shovel, a survival kit/book and a religious book. Leave them to their own devices and solely engage them in the struggle to survive. You don't grow food = you don't eat. You don't light a fire = you get cold. You don't learn how to survive = you don't survive. You are in need of spiritual comfort/guidance = read a religious book and talk to a higher power.

There is no deterrent at present. There are lenient sentences and release back into the community. No amount of psychiatric counselling makes any significant difference so why not remove child/baby rapists  permanently from society and place them well away from ever harming another child/baby. Why should they be cossetted in a prison? Why should they be given three meals a day, a warm place, television, library facilities, counselling etc? Their victims had no human rights. Why not try this as an alternative instead of doing the same old thing that proves to be ineffective?

Why not send a clear message that if you rape a child/baby this is what you can expect? I'd vote for any party that had the b*lls to do this.

OMG ...Just been reading about this on Sky News, it is sickening ! If ever there was a case to bring back the death penalty this has got to be it, IMO .

http://news.sky.com/story/1173936/lostprophets-ian-watkins-admits-rape-attempts

This is a very sick person and his woman helpers were the mothers of the baby victims ?  wft  He should be castrated and thrown on a island with no contact with another person for the rest of his sorry life !!!

The two misfits, masquerading as mothers should be given the same, different islands of course !!!

BBC News today

Profile: Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins
Police said Ian Watkins used his celebrity status to abuse young children

As the frontman of Welsh nu-metal band Lostprophets, Ian Watkins sold millions of albums and commanded arena crowds.

What his fans did not know was that he was, as a court has heard, "a determined and committed paedophile".
Det Ch Insp Peter Doyle from South Wales Police said: "There is no doubt in my mind that Ian Watkins exploited his celebrity status in order to abuse young children."

Ian Watkins was born in 1977 and grew up in Pontypridd, forming his first band, a thrash metal group called Aftermath, in his mid teens.

The rocker studied graphic design at university and started playing music as a drummer before taking the microphone when the singer of one of his bands quit.

Lozt Prophetz formed in 1997. Three years later, with the spelling of their name changed, they recorded their debut album, The Fake Sound of Progress, in a single week on a modest budget.

After the band were snapped up by Columbia Records and heavyweight manager Peter Mensch, whose company Q Prime looks after Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Muse, the album was re-recorded and re-released.

They soon started making waves in the US, where their second and third albums both reached the Top 40.

Lostprophets drew huge festival crowds and won a number of awards

They reached their commercial peak in the UK when their third album, Liberation Transmission, went to number one in 2006.

They also had two Top 10 singles - Last Train Home in 2004, and Rooftops (A Liberation Broadcast) two years later.

Lostprophets were named best British band at the Kerrang! awards for two years in a row in 2006 and '07, although most critics afforded them little credibility.

Watkins, heavily tattooed, with piercings and a goth-influenced dress sense, led the group as they sold out arena shows and attracted huge festival crowds.

Peddling angst and rebellion, sweetened by anthemic choruses and a punk-meets-skater boy image, Lostprophets attracted many disenfranchised young fans.

Their last album, Weapons, came out in April 2012, eight months before Watkins was arrested.

'Depraved' offences

We now know that while in the band, the disgraced star conspired with two female fans to abuse their babies as well as taking advantage of underage followers.

He has pleaded guilty to a series of "depraved" child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a baby.

In one case, he swapped messages with a woman in her 20s about her baby boy in which the frontman spoke of his desire to "make him mine" and to "cross the line".

Cardiff Crown Court was also given details of a 17-minute video in which the singer performed a sex act on the baby.

The other members of Lostprophets, pictured with Watkins second right, recently split up

The video was filmed the day after the Weapons album was released and just hours after Watkins appeared on BBC Radio 1.

It emerged that he was a user of crack cocaine and crystal meth and he claimed to have no memory of the events in the video.

Prosecuting barrister Chris Clee said drugs played "a significant part in his offending against children". Watkins also planned to "teach" the babies how to take drugs, the hearing was told.

The singer used Skype to watch the other woman, aged 24, abuse her child. In the 45-minute video call, he talked to the mother about how they were going to use the baby for sex. Watkins referred to the woman and her baby as his "slave duo".

Police also found a box of camcorder tapes which showed Watkins in hotel rooms with young fans.

One 16-year-old girl from Boston, Massachusetts, contacted Watkins saying she was a fan and was a virgin and went on to meet him wearing a schoolgirl uniform in a New York hotel in October 2006.

Watkins was filmed taking part in sex acts and describing the girl as "my underage slut".

In October 2008, he filmed himself having sex with another 16-year-old Lostprophets fan.

Police are now appealing for other victims to come forward.

Watkins' ex-bandmates released a statement in October saying they had been "coming to terms with our heartache" since his arrest and that they would no longer make music as Lostprophets.

Watkins and the two mothers are due to be sentenced next month.

NOTE: I am unsure of the legal reasons for not naming the two mothers

Surely it's because naming the mothers would identify the children?

But not every mother who has children remains unnamed in court proceedings?

Did we not know the names of those who abused and killed Baby P?

It could be because there are ongoing child care proceedings in the Family court, or it may be that these two women are on bail for other offences which will come before another court.

With regard to: One 16-year-old girl from Boston, Massachusetts, contacted Watkins saying she was a fan and was a virgin and went on to meet him wearing a schoolgirl uniform in a New York hotel in October 2006.

Watkins was filmed taking part in sex acts and describing the girl as "my underage slut".

In U.S law this is statutory rape and it's to be hoped Watkins will at some point be extradited and tried in NY for this offence where, if convicted, he may receive a sentence more appropriate than that which will most probably be handed down next month.  120 years or life without parole is music to my ears and the only sound I want to hear in relation to this predatory pervert.

Yes, but their children aren't the alleged victims.

In the Baby Peter case, the mother and boyfriend weren't named at first - neither was Peter - because there was a case pending regarding another child in the family.

We heard the name of the woman who allowed her own son to be abused over a prolonged period before being killed by his abusers because the child was dead and there were no other court proceedings which would act as a bar to publication of her name.

Having served her time, this woman is now free to start her life anew.

To add to my previous post, Connolly and Barker were subsequently tried on the other matter under false names as their real ones had become known.

Post by Tony Bennett on 27.11.13 14:16

Yes, thank you all for your comments, it is to protect the identity of an innocent child, basically, as in this:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Mother basked in sun leaving children home alone

A mother-of-three was today starting a 15 months jail sentence after leaving her children home alone in appalling conditions while she enjoyed a sunshine break in Malta.

The 29-year-old woman left her three young children in a house with no food, clothes or heating, while she basked on a beach abroad.

The youngsters, aged between five and 10-years-old, did not even have a toothbrush between them during their mother's week-long holiday.

Newcastle Crown Court heard that the woman from the north east, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was struggling to cope as a single mother and was on the verge of a breakdown when she selfishly fled the country.

She sold her child benefit book for £130 after withdrawing £105 in benefits to fund her trip.

The Recorder of Newcastle-upon-Tyne Mr David Hodson sent a stark message to parents nationwide that the courts would not tolerate behaviour which put young children at risk.

Sentencing her to prison yesterday, he said: "Anyone who behaves in the way you have with such callous disregard for the welfare of their own children can only expect punishment."

The court heard that the young woman had tried to dump her children on her mother who she described as a "vindictive cow".

But when her mother refused to take responsibility for the youngsters the defendant went ahead with her holiday in July last year.

A friend of the family contacted the grandmother on July 11 last year to say that the children had been left to fend for themselves and could she collect them from school.

The grandmother picked them up and cared for them for a couple of days before phoning social services to inform them of the situation.

Social workers arriving at the house discovered a death-trap home with exposed wires dangling beside the children's bunk-beds where there should have been light fittings.

The youngsters only had the school clothes they were left in for the week their mother was abroad and the gas meter was removed just days before she left the country.

Paul Sloan QC, defending, said: "There is no escaping that she herself had left that house in a truly disgusting state."

The judge interrupted, saying: "Dangerous and also disgusting."

The court heard that the mother, who pleaded guilty to three charges of child cruelty on the grounds of neglect, was already known to social services and the children were placed on the "At Risk" register in 1995.

Mr Sloan said that his client confessed to police on her return from holiday that she struggled to cope with her children.

"She was to tell the police by that stage she had simply given up. It is apparent that the defendant has had her own very real problems.

"She genuinely feared that unless she had a period of respite that she would physically harm (her son)."

The court heard the woman had been kept on a "suicide watch" while in custody for seven weeks prior to her court appearance.

She denied three counts of abandonment at an earlier court appearance - the not guilty pleas were accepted, but the charges were left on file.

If only she'd followed the McCanns' example and left them a toothbrush to share, she'd have been 'within the bounds of reasonable parenting'. nah

The children were placed on the at risk register in 1995?  How old is this case?

I picked up on that too. Following the link it appears to be an old case. I think Tony was just using it as an example.

"How "committed paedophile" Ian Watkins hid in a rock band"

Post by Letterwriter on 27.11.13 19:14

This is the tagline given, with no apparent irony, by the BBC to their biog on Ian Watkins (the article that has been pasted in a page or 2 back)

The BBC seem to have missed the fact that it is now known that a number of paedophiles "hid" in the BBC

With many of them introducing pop and rock stars such as Garry Glitter and Pete Townshend on Top of the Pops, where they probably couldn't be seen for the clouds of white powder lending a certain frenetic ambience to the set.

Just released.

South Wales Police had the information about Ian Watkins in December 2008.

The entire force should be disbanded and a new force set up under John Stalker.

I am not at all surprised by this, Tony.   Despite their glossy websites encouraging victims of sexual offences to come forward on promise of being believed, there are numerous UK police authorities whose record in investigating these particular offences against women and children can only be described as abysmal.

The Met is a case in point where Operation Sapphire has been proved to be not fit for purpose.

I suspect this is not unconnected to the fact that male police officers outnumber their female colleagues and sexual offences are predominantly committed by males.

I am speechless and apoplectic with rage.

If this is true, this force wants hosing down and fumigating. It is nothing short of evil what has happened here.
