Ian Watkins of 'lostprophets' in court over 24 charges of child sexual abuse

Post by Tony Bennett on 04.06.13 0:27

Some of this is very hard to believe - but here is today's BBC News report on the opening of the case, together with Ian Watkins' Wikipedia entry about his rock music career to date [WARNING: Graphic]:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The lead singer of south Wales rock band Lostprophets has denied 23 sexual offences involving children, including two charges of raping a baby.

Ian Watkins, 35, of Pontypridd, and two women appeared at Cardiff Crown Court via video link.

He denied a charge of conspiracy to rape another very young child and other offences including sexual assault.

The women denied sexual offences against children. The next hearing is due to take place on Thursday.

Charges denied by Ian Watkins

Two charges of raping a baby
One of conspiracy to rape another child
One of sexual assault
One of aiding and abetting sexual assault by penetration
One of conspiracy to sexually assault a child
11 of making indecent images
Two of taking indecent images
Four of possessing indecent images
One of possessing extreme pornographic images involving an animal

Mr Watkins denied a 24th offence, possessing extreme pornographic images involving an animal.

The alleged offences date from 2007.

Mr Watkins later issued a statement saying he would continue to fight to clear his name.

The band, which has sold 3.5m albums around the world, was co-founded by Mr Watkins in 1997.

The most recent album Weapons was the band's fifth and released in April last year.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Ian Watkins was born in Merthyr Tydfil and later moved to Pontypridd, where he attended Hawthorn High School with future band mate Mike Lewis.[1]

He continued his education after high school, completing a degree in graphic design from the University of Wales, Newport and graduating with First-class honours.[3] Lewis' and Watkins' mutual enjoyment of rock and metal music strengthened their friendship, leading teenage Watkins and Lewis, in 1991, to form a group called Aftermath; a thrash metal band that played in a shed in Watkins'
garden.
#0000ff][1]

Whilst spending time in the local Ynysangharad Park, where 17 years later Lostprophets would headline the Full Ponty festival, Watkins was introduced to future band mate, Lee Gaze, through a mutual friend. Having abandoned Aftermath, which made two live appearances in the band's lifespan of two years, Watkins and Gaze decided to form a new band called Fleshbind, based on their American hardcore punk influences. The band played several shows, including one supporting Feeder in London, but the group was short-lived.[1]

Watkins reunited with current Lostprophets guitarist, Mike Lewis, as a drummer in hardcore band called Public Disturbance (formed in 1995). By this time, Watkins and Gaze had left Fleshbind to create their own band, Lost Prophets, who made their live debut in May 1997, alongside Public Disturbance, with Watkins as the lead vocalist. In 1998, Watkins left Public Disturbance to concentrate on the newly named, lostprophets (spelled with all lower-case letters).

On New Year's Eve of 2008, Watkins participated in a concert for Kidney Wales Foundation and stated that his reasons for being involved were as a result of his mother needing a kidney transplant: "Having that direct experience is why I wanted to get more involved with Kidney Wales and organise a fundraising concert on New Year's Eve."[4] The concert featured Welsh bands The Blackout, Kids in Glass Houses and Attack! Attack!.[citation needed]

In 2009, Watkins started a remixing side-project called L'Amour La Morgue. So far he has released 17 remixes by artists such as The Killers, Beyoncé, Young Guns, Magic Wands, Tears for Fears, and Bring Me The Horizon. He has also released a free mixtape, which you can find on the website along with a free download of a song that was premiered at a fashion show in 2008.[5]

As of 2012, Lostprophets have recorded five albums, Thefakesoundofprogress, Start Something, Liberation Transmission, The Betrayed, and Weapons and toured extensively in Europe and America,[6] playing shows such as the Reading and Leeds Festivals in 2004, 2007, 2009, and 2010.#0000ff][7][/size][8]

This must be embarrassing for another Welsh singer called Ian Watkins who used to be in the group Steps.

Certainly some dreadful allegations here.

And talking about trials in general - not this one, of course,
denying possession of images is quite a tricky thing to do, when they are on your computer.

Young mother due to stand trial with Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins for child sex abuse pleads guilty to sexually touching a baby

  • Young mother, 20, admits sexual touching of the child
  • Watkins, 35, charged with 24 sex offences including baby rape
  • He denies them all and is due to stand trial in November
  • Judge rejects his application to have the case moved away from Cardiff Crown Court because he is 'a local celebrity'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2336912/Young-mother-stand-trial-Lostprophets-singer-Ian-Watkins-child-sex-abuse-pleads-guilty-sexually-touching-baby.html

This is beyond comprehension, reading it I felt sick and very angry. This must have been known by others, apart from the three involved, I ask why, why do people cover up such depravity?

This is among one of the worst child abuse cases ever, it happened in 2002 Mexico. It is deeply upsetting to watch. All I can say is, I hope the baby is resting in peace

A little correction: this happened in New Mexico, an US state, not in Mexico. Mexico has its own violence problem.

Ian Watkins 'Baby Rape' Trial: Jury Asked If They Are A Fan Of Lostprophets
A high-profile trial alleging that rock singer Ian Watkins is a baby-raping paedophile will begin on Tuesday.

A panel of 22 potential jurors has been picked from a pool of 72 people and will form the jury at the trial at Cardiff Crown Court in South Wales.

Judge Justice Royce began today by warning the group that their involvement in the trial would necessitate watching some "very graphic material".

He concluded with the question: "Are you a fan of the group called Lostprophets?"

Watkins, 36, from Pontypridd, former lead singer with Lostprophets, is accused of two separate counts of baby rape.
He is also charged with conspiracy to rape another child, one count of sexual assault, one of aiding and abetting sexual assault by penetration and conspiracy to sexually assault a child.

In addition he faces 17 counts of making, taking and possessing indecent images and one of possessing extreme pornographic image involving an animal.

He denies all 24 charges.

He is also charged with conspiracy to rape another child, one count of sexual assault, one of aiding and abetting sexual assault by penetration and conspiracy to sexually assault a child

Two women, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also face sexual offence accusations as part of the case.

The three defendants, who will be standing trial together, face a total of 32 charges.

Watkins appeared in court today smartly dressed in a charcoal-coloured three-piece suit. He was clean-shaven but looked heavier and appeared to be going grey.

All the potential jurors were asked today whether they knew or had links with up to two dozen prosecution witnesses or any locations which will figure in the trial.

Justice Royce then went on to warn: "Often members of the jury have to listen to or view evidence which is very distressing or unpleasant. This is irrespective of the guilt or innocence of the defendant.

"This case involves allegations of sexual abuse of very young children and will involve the viewing of very graphic material."
He added: "This case is to be tried on the evidence you will hear in court. It is very important that you do not carry out any of your own research."

He also issued a "very serious warning" to potential jurors not to look up details about any of the defendants on the internet.

Those who ignored the warning would face prosecution, he said.

Before adjourning for the day, he said the trial is scheduled to conclude by December 20, when court finishes for Christmas. If it runs over into the new year, proceedings will resume on January 6.

Of the jury panel of 22 people chosen today, a further six will be retained for an extra day in case they are needed.

Last month the remaining members of rock act Lostprophets, who have sold around 3.5 million records since their formation in 1997, announced that the band had split up.

Makes me feel sick to the stomach, I would think everyone on the Jury will need counseling when this trial is over.

He has pleaded GUILTY to all the offences.
The other two women are the MOTHERS of the children victims.

It was clear to me that the women had to be related to the babies or they would have been named.

Nobody likes to think that women can be paedophiles too but it does happen.

Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has denied several child sex offences charges being made against him, including conspiracy to rape a one-year-old and possessing indecent images of children.

His solicitor made the statement during a court appearance in Cardiff, Wales yesterday (via NME): "Mr Watkins furiously denies all of the charges and allegations made. He intends to fight to the bitter end to clear his name. He wishes to thank the fans, family and friends for the constant love and support they have given and continue to give throughout this testing time."

This sort of vile filthy crime falls into the mass murderer/cannibal league in any case. Anyone who hurts a baby or a child in this way should be physically castrated and in solitary confinement for all of their life until they die IMO. Shouldn't even be graded as a human.

Referring to two women standing alongside Watkins in the dock, Mr Clee said: "Both women sexually abused their own children and made them available to Watkins for him to abuse."

The court was told how the abuse of the children by all parties was also evident in text messages.

Watkins sent a text to one of the women saying: "If you belong to me, so does your baby."

In an exchange involving the other woman, she sent Watkins a message along with an image of her child to the effect that her child needed to know she was not loved.

Watkins also planned to "teach" the babies how to take drugs, the hearing was told.

Mr Clee said drugs played "a significant part in his offending against children".

Lostprophets' Ian Watkins visits Children's Kidney Centre
Thursday, October 30, 2008

Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins – Kidney Wales’ new Ambassador for Young People – surprised patients at the Children’s Kidney Centre in Cardiff on October 29 when the star paid a special visit to the unit supporting the charity’s Donate Wales campaign.

Ian said: “I had a great time meeting all the kids at the Centre and it was great to see first hand how Kidney Wales’ funding and work goes to help units like this.

“Lots of the children at the centre are waiting for a kidney transplant, but there’s a desperate shortage of donors. That’s why we need more people to join the Organ Donor Register and help save a life one day.”

He might have helped raise money for a children's charity.

Look at Savile, he even had Dr's at Stoke Mandeville allegedly selecting victims for him.

Daisy, once again this takes us back to that quote from Mark Twain:

"It is much easier to fool people, than to convince them that they have been fooled".

That quotation applies in so very many situations

No doubt someone will say it's a curable addiction. He's already under psychiatric care. He's pleaded guilty to avoid a trial. He's under psychiatric care. He's done the best for himself.

It's not an addiction.

It's not 'curable'.

It's pure evil.

Yes, evil exists and this is what we're looking at.

I wish people would stop trying to 'cure' paedophiles and start punishing them by removing them from society and making them do hard labour.

Now where's that island in the frozen north that could accommodate them all, the one with no electricity, no means to eat unless you grow it yourself, no way of staying warm unless you do it yourself, no animals....and....NO KIDS.

ZERO tolerance is what's needed for this level of evil crime and MAXIMUM punishment - not a cosy stay in a prison being indulged by psychiatrists with an option of release.
