Unless of course his lawyer did the work pro bono. Pro bono for the rich, zilcho for the cannon fodder. Yep that sounds about right to me.

Maybe he felt he'd bitten off more that he could chew, taking on Sally Bercow?

Unfortunately not, its seems.

Lord McAlpine to sue Sally Bercow as he drops other Twitter claims

However he said that his lawyers will continue to "focus on the action"
against Mrs Bercow, adding that any damages will be donated to the charity
of her choice.

Thanks for the info Olympicana Reloaded, I spoke too soon but I think Sally Bercow can give him a run for his money.

Typical he drops the small fries and go after a big fish because there is money in that.

Besides Sally Bercow is high profile enough to be made an example of. Lord McAlpine is making a statement here.

If Lord McAlpine is not careful this might just backfire on him. All depends how the Judge is going to interpret the wordings of Bercow's twits.

Interesting times ahead. McAlpine will be in for surprise; and be prepared to be eaten alive by the ferocious beast.

Interesting times if it isn't held in secret court that is.

Reading what was written. Not what suits your agenda...

Post by Letterwriter on 04.05.13 18:08

Even if one reads between the literal words of the tweet and links it to the allegations that were being posted by others - surely that is all it is - a mention of allegations that others were making - it isn't necessarily an allegation by Ms Bercow herself.

I certainly can't read that tweet to be an allegation. Mentioning or referencing something or even repeating it, isn't the same as endorsing it. Heck, the newspapers print the fact that others made allegations and aren't sued - presumably because that isn't the same as making an allegation?

Am I talking sense or is that tweet at risk of being over-interpreted and setting a dangerous precedent? Along with the recent revelation that stating facts can be libellous?

You`re so right - all she said was that he was trending, so goodness knows how that can be libellous. I believe it was Michael Crick on Ch.4. who first mentioned it and that was only because he had contacted AM to ask for a comment from him about it. It`ll be interesting to see CR defending against an establishment figure.

She asked why he was trending and added" innocent face" I believe.

How is this libelous?

Yes, she indicated that she knew why he was trending but she didn't accuse him of anything did she?

I hope she wins.

I have a feeling she will……..

McAlpine doth protest too loudly.

CR will take him to the cleaners.

He will end up with a hugh legal costs for both sides, a dented reputation for protesting too much, and maybe if he's lucky escape further attention about his art collection.

If they have Kevin stalking TB, they are likely to have another office nerd who knows enough about the WayBack machine to search the Wiki entry before it was whooshed, and cleaned up. The one about his being the mystery seller of the dubious "art work".

What gets me, is why McAlpine is going after Sally Bercow, when elsewhere on the net are very detailed and serious allegations about him. Some of it is chilling. So why go after her for asking why he's trending (which was a true fact) and not after the authors who are accusing him of bumping people off?

We seem to have heard this before - people who are only reporting the facts provided by others are being sued, rather than the persons alleged to have committed the misdeeds doing anything to disprove them.

How mind-bogglingly ironic that Carter-Ruck is acting for Sally Bercow.

Let's hope that the silly old git is told where to go.

He must be very thankful for his friends in high places as surely otherwise the serious allegations about him would have been investigated and not dismissed out of hand.

I'm not surprised Bercow's tweet has been found to be libelous. It was the "innocent face" wot dun it.

There we go - the establishment sticking together and getting away with it.

A disappointment indeed. I'd hoped for better in view of the judge involved.

It's proved a very expensive tweet indeed. She should have known better and capitulated at the first hurdle when challenged IMO. She may have to do a few more reality tv shows to recover financially from this.
