Kate might be the focus because the real players in this charade are all male. Kate writes the book, Kate appearing alone on tv and radio and in the newspapers. She is a stooge now as far as I am concerned, the front for what is the truth behind the scenes.
Yes, always misdirection. So let us take the principle you outline above and apply it to the following scenario.....
On being made arguido, during official questioning by the PJ, Gerry McCann appears happy to answer all questions put to him, on the other hand, Kate McCann adheres to her right of silence and refuses to answer 48 questions put to her.
If we apply your principle above, what does it tell us now..?
Is she a stooge 'now'. Or has she always been?
Good question!
Reminds me of Charles Dickens's gangs: one pouting Nell to distract the Toffs with het looks & attire, one specialist-snatch to pick their pockets while they're looking the other way; some other gangmembers supposed to create a diversion and/or dispose of the spoils after the snatch (so that nobody can finger the specialist who must appear to be emptyhanded when caught by the Yard) and some shady character(s) hidden in an alleyway waiting to have the stolen purses delivered at his doorstep.
Come to think of it: Charles Dickens would have had a field day dreaming up this Tapas-cum-kids on vacation tragedy, wouldn't he?
And what happened to Fagan? Any resemblance to some media mogul we shall leave unnamed for the moment?

I hear Lorraine Kelly OBE is seeking to campaign for an OBE for Kate McCann. Her appointment at Missing People should seal it #McCanns
Plus Lorraine Kelly was also on the panel of judges that voted KM one of Britains most 20 inspirational women last year.

I saw this coming a mile off - it has to be the next step for KM. It makes me utterly sick. The MBE, OBE and CBE are awarded, I believe, depending on the level of salary...(the lowest salary gets an MBE)...so that being the case I am only astonished that the woman is not being put forward (if indeed she is) for a CBE, what with all the money she is earning right left and centre

Gloria Hunniford and Fiona Phillips join McCanns at fundraiser to mark '1,000 days of agony' since Maddie vanished
By Daily Mail Reporter
UPDATED: 09:57, 28 January 2010
Kate McCann tonight said she was "trying to move forward" as a charity event was held to mark the 1,000th day since her daughter Madeleine went missing.
Mrs McCann and her husband Gerry were joined by celebrity supporters at the £150-a-head fundraising dinner, raffle and auction at Kensington Roof Gardens in west London.
Speaking on the steps of the venue she said: 'We are hoping for a positive night.
'

Fundraiser: (l-r) Gerry McCann, Martin Houghton-Brown, Chief Executive Missing People, Kate McCann and Francis Herbert, Secretary General, Missing Children Europe at a Madeleine McCann fundraiser held at the Kensington Roof Gardens
Charitable celebrities: Gloria Hunniford and Fiona Phillips were among the famous guests lending their support to the McCann's fundraising event
Asked about her feelings on the sad anniversary, she added: 'It's obviously difficult but we are trying to move forward to help Madeleine and all missing children.'
Madeleine was nearly four when she disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in southern Portugal on May 3 2007 while her parents dined with friends nearby.
Comedian Jack Dee, television presenters Fiona Phillips and Gloria Hunniford and actor Peter Bowles were among the guests.
Madeleine McCann went missing in May 2007, 1,000 days ago today
The couple will mark the sad anniversary by organising the launch of 1,000 glowing paper lanterns into the night sky in Leicestershire.
The McCanns said it sometimes felt wrong that they were coping with life without Madeleine - but added that otherwise there would be no search for the little girl.
In a poignant statement they said: 'Today marks 1,000 days since Madeleine was taken from us. It's hard to even say the number.
'We remember the first few days after Madeleine was taken, watching the clock and counting every hour. Now we've reached 1,000 days.
'It's difficult sometimes to understand how we've been able to keep going and survive without Madeleine, especially since nothing has changed since that terrifying first night.
'Madeleine is still missing. Sometimes it even feels wrong to be coping.
'And yet if we weren't, there would be no search and no campaign to find Madeleine and that just doesn't bear thinking about.'

Missing People chief executive Martin Houghton-Brown
Labour MP urges government not to cut half a million pounds from the charity
Missing People could be left fighting for survival if the government presses ahead with plans to withdraw funding of £500,000, its chief executive Martin Houghton-Brown has warned.
Labour MP Ann Coffey will urge ministers to help the charity in an adjournment speech in Parliament today on the future of services for missing people.
Houghton-Brown said that if the government did not listen there could be ‘catastrophic’ consequences for the charity, which has 45 staff and 75 volunteers.
The charity, which was known as the National Missing Persons Helpline until 2007, faces the loss of a £350,000 grant from the National Policing Improvement Agency, which was included on the Cabinet list of quangos for abolition.
A £150,000 strategic grant from the Department for Education for the charity’s runaways helpline is also due to expire.
Houghton-Brown said government support was vital for ‘pump priming’ other sources of funding and that if the funding was removed, the police would have to pay more to deliver the same service.
"If other funders pull out as a consequence of the government doing so, it could be catastrophic," he said.
Coffey, who is chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Runaway and Missing Children and Adults, said: "Rather than remove the missing person’s infrastructure, we must maintain investment and underpin it with new legislation, which both supports existing services and fills in much-needed gaps."

As long as they give one to Karen Matthews as well, I don't mind. it's a sort of Government diploma for incompetence.
