[FROM ADMIN - OP was by Cheshire Cat] Here is what I think amounts to a correct translation of the important Correio Da Mahna article today, 28 January 2012.

An up-to-date feature article about Marinho Pinto appears further down page 1 of this threadr - Tony Bennett

FROM ADMIN:

The Chairman of the Portuguese Bar Assocation, Marinho Pinto, will testify in person on behalf of the McCanns against Goncalo Amaral in the forthcoming libel case brought by Madeleine’s parents against the former co-ordinator of the Portuguese Police based at Porimão, BBC News has learned.

The libel trial was scheduled to start next week but was postponed at the request of the McCanns so that several witnesses could be heard by video conference from England.

Goncalo Amaral recently won an appeal in the courts against an earlier injunction which prohibited the publication of his book ‘The Truth About A Lie’ from being sold or distributed. The book’s thesis was that Madeleine had died in the Algarve, Portugal. The judges decided that to prohibit the book from being published violated the Portuguese Constitution.

From Correio Da Mahna 28/1/12: The Chairman of the Bar, Marinho Pinto, will witness the couple McCanncontraGonçalo Amaral, the civil case that Madeleine's parents moved from the former coordinator of the Directorate of Judicial Police of Portimão, BBC News has learned. Marinho Pinto made available to testify in person against the former coordinator at the trial that was scheduled to start next week but was postponed by the judge who granted the request of the McCanns to be heard several witnesses English by videoconference. Gonçalo Amaral ganhou, na Relação, a providência cautelar contra a publicação do livro "A Verdade da Mentira", onde defendia a tese de que Maddie tinha morrido no Algarve. Gonçalo Amaral won in the ratio, the injunction against the publication of "True Lies," where he defended the thesis that Maddie had died in the Algarve. Os desembargadores consideraram que a proibição da publicação do livro violava a Constituição. The justices held that the prohibition of publication of the book violated the Constitution.

Perhaps as 'The president of the municipality of Santarém', he could not speak out on behalf of Goncalo Amaral. But now that he is about to retire early on the grounds of illhealth, he is free to do as he wishes. Providing he is well enough of course.

I pray it is nothing serious. MCCANN v AMARAL TRIAL: Marinho Pinto will give evidence in person for the McCanns against Gonçalo Amaral in the final chapter of this 3-year-long libel claim 725573

MCCANN v AMARAL TRIAL: Marinho Pinto will give evidence in person for the McCanns against Gonçalo Amaral in the final chapter of this 3-year-long libel claim Empty Notes on Marinho e Pinto, the McCanns' new star witness

Post by Tony Bennett 28.01.12 12:02

NEWS FEATURE FOR CMOMM:

WHO IS MARINHO PINTO AND WHY IS HE AN IMPORTANT WITNESS FOR THE MCCANNS?

First, today's Correio da Manha article again:

Below is some background information about Marinho e Pinto

1. An article by McCanns’ lawyer Marcos Aragão Correia supporting Marinho e Pinto for re-election to the Chairmanship of the Portuguese Bar [Lawyer’s Order].

2. An article by Nigel Moore of McCannfiles with an unflattering picture of Pinto

3. Extracts from an article on the goncaloamaral.webs.com site about how Marinho e Pinto got Marcos Aragão Correia reinstated as the prosecutor of Goncal Amaral on 22 January 2009 after Correia had been suspended by the Madeira Branch of the Lawyer’s Order for suspected malpractice

4. Article by Tony Bennett summarising Correia’s career up to and including 22 January 2009

ARTICLE 1

NOTE: Marino Pinto was successfully re-elected to the post of Chairman of the Portugese Bar in November 2010.

Marcos Aragão Correia is the lawyer who lied by claiming that underworld sources had told him that Madeleine had been abducyed, raped, killed and her body thrown into the Arada Dam. Admitting this was a deliberate lie, Marcos Correia then came up with a tale that his interest in Madeleine McCann began with a vision he had on 5 May 2007 in Madeira, when he saw a big strong man strangling a young blonde girl. He had this vision, he said, after attending his first-ever Spiritualist Church meeting. He has admitted meeting with Metodo 3 operatives at the Arada Dam, 7 weeks before a media blitz covered what he said was an attempt to recover Madeleine’s bones from the dam. The below article appeared on the Justice4McCannfam site on 27 October 2010

Marcos Aragão Correia supports Marinho e Pinto
27-Oct-2010

The Madeira lawyer explains why both the reelection of the current bastonário. In a recent paper by Dr Antonio Marinho e Pinto entitled "Justice for Women" (available on their official website), our Dean recalls the example of the legal murder of Jesus Christ, supported by the masses irrational to question the "fairness" of current society, though technologically more developed, little deviation from the monstrous moral convictions against a human being without a doubt a perfect example of virtue.

In fact, the hypocrisy that dominates in society, especially in the titles of Christian faith that many complain, is itself instructive that the opportunists always try to carry out their heinous exacerbation of selfishness, is to strike openly that they do precisely forehead, is in recognition of its impotence, to the faithful followers are complaining that they hate the same power as the best way to take advantage of it and betrayed from within the breast that parasitically invaded. Been since Constantine, in which the famous battle fought in Milvian Bridge, flown with the phrase "in hoc signo vinces" ("with this sign conquer"), marked the institutionalization of Christianity, this institutionalization, despite the advantages offered (including disclosure) would also, however, become an open door for opportunists, hypocrites and enemies of his general Christian ideas, which attracted to the magnet of the secular power, would be shamelessly self-label "Christians."

But as Jesus himself warned, "beware of wolves in sheep's clothing", and "the fruit tree is known! The same caution should always persist, and a close watch over the most obvious signs that the collapse of the decadent society today, as the hypocrites when they feel their power to evaporate, increasing its animalistic ferocity and brutality. Faced with these wolves and contemporaries, there can be no half-words, or hesitation, much less contemplations. In Portugal, the judiciary, dominated by ravenous wolves, on the graces of his fellow politician in power, persists in trying to crush the most basic unalienable human rights, won, stood for decades. Against this harsh backdrop, everything that could abominate the Lawyers order would be a politically correct Dean, helpful and accommodating with this miserable state political and judicial (the regulated and supervised by the first).

For this I support to Dr. Marinho Pinto, once again for the post of Chairman of the Lawyers order. His concern for human rights is manifest, and we must not forget that for the first time in the history of Portugal, the Lawyers Association, under its auspices, was Assistant to the most egregious cases of police torture (first in the case of Leonor Cipriano, and later also in the case of Virgolino Borges).
His reelection is, for all this, something very useful for the construction of a new state, far from the New State.

Marcos Aragão Correia

The Lawyer's Order has made the wrong decision in becoming assistant in the Process of Leonor Cipriano.

Those who have a minimum of experience regarding the actions of the Judicial Police do not believe that the inspectors would ever attack Leonor Cipriano causing her the bruises shown in the photographs.

This process seems to be deliberately staged to attack the Portuguese Police, to attack Portuguese Justice.

If the Inspectors were to be convicted, Portugal would be denigrated at all levels.

Greater evilness is only that done by US troops in Iraq and in Guantanamo.

Greater evilness is only that practised by Napoleon's troops, who in Portugal, killed, raped, stole, going to the point of, in just one afternoon, killing more than 2 thousand people in the City of Évora alone!

The Lawyer's Order should maintain the impartiality necessary in order to avoid jeopardising the Portuguese lawyers, in this venture to provide a lawyer to help the defence of Leonor Cipriano.

Nevertheless, I would accept that the Lawyer's Order collaborated in the investigation regarding the destiny of the small child, Joana, who disappeared and is dead.

The head of the bar does not have my support in this matter. Quite the opposite, it is my belief that Dr. Marinho Pinto has done a disservice to Law - another one, another service - using the Lawyer's Order.

I am sure, since a long time, that the PJ inspectors will be absolved and that the Order will emerge weakened.

The Masonry and the United Kingdom would definitely enjoy the conviction of the Inspectors.

What a present for Gordon Brown!

There the news would run throughout the world that the investigators of the Portuguese PJ, those who "upset" Maddie's parents, weren't cops after all but TORTURERS!!!

Not even in Burundi would this be acceptable!

ARTICLE 3: PINTO GETS MARCOS ARAGAO CORREIA BACK ON TRACK AS PROSECUTOR OF GONCALO AMARAL

http://goncaloamaral.webs.com/investigation.htm

January 22 - Leonor Cipriano's lawyer, Marcos Aragão Correia, was suspended from practice, during the trial, by the Madeira branch of the Lawyers' Order, An allegation of professional misconduct had been made against him. He had to leave the court room in Faro at 10.20am. The Lusa Press Agency reported that Marcos Correia re-entered the court room at 11.20am asking for permission to resume his advocacy.

The judge, Henrique Pavão, refused the request and forced him to leave the court room. saying: “The Doctor will leave the audience room, one way or another”. As he left, Lusa reported that Marcos Correia left expressing his anger at the judge's decision.

Head of the Portuguese Lawyer’s Order, Marinho Pinto, who has previously publicly supported the McCanns’ claim of abduction, and has criticised the Portuguese police investigation of the ‘disappearance’ of Madeleine McCann, has tried to order the Madeira Bar to revoke its suspension, and has reportedly tried to intervene by contacting the trial judge demanding that Aragão Correia should be allowed to continue to represent the murderess who insists that she was beaten into making a confession by Amaral’s detectives in 2004.

He succeeded. Marcos Correia was reinstated after Marinho Pinto intervened, the trial judge allowed him to continue, and later when Amaral was convicted of filing a false report, Correia exulted: 'The target was hit'.

Correia's Career - UPDATED

Guest on Thu 22 Jan 2009, 9:31 pm

UPDATE of my attempt to keep up with the spiralling career of Marcos Alexandre Aragao Correia:

THE CAREER OF MARCOS ALEXANDRE ARAGAO CORREIA

Updated to Thursday 22 January 2009. Note, in view of today’s developments, I still stick by the three predictions about Correia’s future career (see end of article) that I made several months ago.

[Note: This should be read in conjunction with my other brief summary: ‘The 17 Lies of Leonor Cipriano”]

Here for those who have not seen it is a little C.V. I composed recently on the corrupt Portuguese lawyer trying to 'get' Gonçalo Amaral, Marcos Alaxandre Aragão Correia, updated to include the news of him being thrown out of the court room in Faro today (22 January 2009)

As I wrote previously, it's a work-in-progress, I'll be adding to it as more information comes to light, not least his actions during the concluding parts of this show trial.

IMO anyone who does not realise by now that this is a game of very high-level stakes being waged by the British and Portuguese governments acting in unison (as they have been now for 15 to 18 months), and that Gonçalo Amaral - recently admitted to be 'incorruptible' by a former colleague who was not one of his friends - is the bitter focus of this game, due to his successful actions against powerful people in Portugal as well as against the McCanns, needs to wake up and smell the coffee:

=============================================

The career of Marcos Alexandre Aragão Correia

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The C.V. of the lawyer currently representing the murderess of her own 8-year-old daughter, Leonor Cipriano, and who offered the four detectives charged with torture the opportunity to receive 'only a suspended sentence' if they told the court that Goncalo Amaral had ordered them to torture Leonor Cipriano and that Amaral was present during the torture:

==================

Correia’s Career

The career of Marcos Alexandre Aragão Correia

1975 - Born: Madeira

2000? - Sets up legal practice claiming he specialises in ‘human rights’ cases

2001? - He sets himself up as head of a ‘Human Rights Association’, ACED, widely regarded as a self-promotional ‘joke’ in Portugal, with a track record of making outrageous claims.

2004? Co-founds right-wing, nationalist, political party, which as yet has little popular support and no MPs or Councillors. That party has taken into membership a number of people with neo-Nazi ideology, some of them who have served prison sentences for their crimes.

6 May 2007 - (‘Three days after Madeleine disappeared’) His underworld sources told him that Madeleine McCann had been raped and killed and her body thrown in a ‘murky lake’.

May to December 2007 - Er, did nothing (except send a recorded delivery letter to the McCanns - see below), except perhaps to negotiate a lucrative financial deal with Metodo 3, who were acting on behalf of the Helping to Find Madeleine Fund…who were acting on behalf of two British Doctors, Dr Gerry McCann and Dr Kate McCann.

2 Oct 2007 - Claims to have sent a Recorded Delivery letter from Madeira to the McCanns in Rothley allegedly containing details of ‘vital clues and evidence’ in the case. Also says he notified the Policia Judiciara in Funchal (Madeira).

17 Oct 2007 - Says he was notified that the Recorded Delivery letter never arrived to the McCanns although allegedly the letter was ‘signed for’

13 Nov 2007 - Mysteriously sues Portuguese postal service (the Correios de Portugal - CTT) for allegedly failing to deliver this letter. He told the court: “They are controversial matters, because there is no material proof of them, but I assure you there is a high degree of credibility about them. I am fulfilling my duty as a Portuguese citizen to take my ideas to the right place. I took my ideas to the PJ in Funchal, but since they didn’t reply, I took them direct to the McCanns”. He says a CTT officla falsely reported that the Recorded Delivery letter had been received. The judge dismissed Aragão Correia’s claim as unsubstantiated and orderd him to pay court costs of 100 euros (around £80). Source: Madeiran Daily News, 13 Nov 2007

10 Dec 2007 - Told Portuguese Police, in conjunction with Metodo3, that Madeleine’s body was probably lying in the Arade Dam near the tower. Also met with Metodo 3 private investigator Antonio Jimenez Raso the same day at the Arade Dam [NOTE: Antonio Jimenez Raso was a corrupt very senior police officer who was recently convicted of the offence of conspiring, whilst Head of the Catalonian Police Anti-Drugs and Anti-Trafficking Unit in 2004, to steal £25 million of cocaine from a boat in Barcelona Docks. He later joined Metodo 3 and became the McCanns' lead investigator. He is now serving a long jail term for his crimes]

He had reached this conclusion after 'carefully considering' the information from ‘underworld sources’, who told him that Madeleine’s body was ‘in a murky lake, with a beach, near some trees’. Later, when questions were asked about his sources of information and why he hadn’t acted sooner, he changed his story to say that he had had a ‘supernatural indication’ or ‘vision’ (another cough) of where Madeleine body might be.

Dec 2007 - late Jan 2008 - Said Portuguese Police did ‘nothing’ to act on his ‘information’.

Jan 2008 - Pays for British divers from Dive Time, Lagos, Algarve to search one part of the Arade Dam. Cost at least £1,200 a day. Says he did this out of the goodness of his own heart, but later said Metodo 3 paid him ‘expenses’ [denied by Metodo 3]. Described in sections of the British press as ‘a good Samaritan’. Media on hand to record the discovery of a 17-foot length of cord ‘which could have been used to tie up Madeleine’. Says he is ‘99% certain that Madeleine’s body will be found here’ [there’s over-confidence for you].

Mar 2008 - Further search of lake, this time managing to find ‘two black plastic bags of bones’ in the lake. Once again, media on hand to take photos of Dive Time divers, bags of bones etc. - lots of pictures of divers in black wet-suits in British media. At the same time the head of the Portuguese Police admitted that the McCanns were made ‘arguidos’ ‘hastily’.

These stories served a number of purposes, including:

[this part of the article omitted for legal reasons]

Mar - October 2008 - Silence from Aragão Coerreio, apart from...

8 April 2008 - Visits Leonor Cipriano in prison.

April 2008 – At the same time, a report said: “Aragão Correia also met the director of Odemira prison, Ana Maria Calado, who confirmed suspicions about Cipriano's treatment, noting that she was ‘shocked about the conditions in which Cipriano entered the prison’. A report to the ‘top judicial authorities’ in Portugal at the time (April 2008) said: “The report concludes that the testimony of Leonor Cipriano and of the Prison Director, as well as other available evidence, are convincing in terms of proving that a crime of torture was committed by officers of the Portuguese judicial police. It condemns the use of ‘medieval methods’ to ‘extract confessions at all costs, even if they are false’, as ‘inadmissible’ and as ‘harmful for Portugal's image as an EU member that defends human rights and has a modern legal order’ and, as such, argues that these practices must be punished in ‘exemplary’ fashion, or the Portuguese citizenry will lose faith in the judicial system.

The report ends with a message from Leonor Cipriano, who was treated as a monster as a result of the horrible nature of the crime she was accused and found guilty of committing: ‘I hope that my daughter Joana re-appears, not only to be with her again, but also to show the world that it was the male officers of the Policia Judiciara who tortured me and who are the real monsters’.”

October 2008 - Dramatically pops up in court to replace the lawyer representing the serial liar and murderess of her own daughter, Leonor Cipriano, currently serving 16 years for murder, in a claim that a confession was beaten out of her by Goncalo Amaral and his four detectives

November 2008- Admits to a proposed ‘crucify Gonçalo Amaral’ deal with the lawyer for the four detectives. Tells the defence lawyer that his detectives will only get suspended sentences for a more minor offence if they say it was Amaral who ordered the torture and that he was there when it happened

November 2008 -Calls defence lawyer for Gonçalo Amaral, Cabrita, a ‘goat’ [‘cabrita’ is the Portuguese for goat]

21 January 2009 - Suspended as a lawyer/barrister by the Madeira Bar Association [Madeira Lawyers’ Order]

22 January 2009 - Tries to continue representing the convicted murderess Leonor Cipriano in court in Faro. Trial judge orders him to cease representing Leonor Cipriano. Aragão Correia argues with the judge, protests and refuses to leave the court. Judge orders him to leave the court with the words: “I have told you to leave the court, Mr Aragão Correia. There are several exits to this court building. Now find one of them and leave this court immediately. Show trial of Amaral suspended once again whilst arrangements made for Leonor Cipriano to be represented by another lawyer.

Head of the Portuguese Lawyer’s Order, Marinho Pinto, who has previously publicly supported the McCanns’ claim of abduction, and has criticised the Portuguese police investigation of the ‘disappearance’ of Madeleine McCann, has tried to order the Madeira Bar to revoke its suspension, and has reportedly tried to intervene by contacting the trial judge demanding that Aragão Correia should be allowed to continue to represent the murderess who insists that she was beaten into making a confession by Amaral’s detectives in 2004 [provisional summary of today’s events, subject to later possible correction].

MCCANN v AMARAL TRIAL: Marinho Pinto will give evidence in person for the McCanns against Gonçalo Amaral in the final chapter of this 3-year-long libel claim Empty Re: MCCANN v AMARAL TRIAL: Marinho Pinto will give evidence in person for the McCanns against Gonçalo Amaral in the final chapter of this 3-year-long libel claim

The libel trial was scheduled to start next week but was postponed at the request of the McCanns so that several witnesses could be heard by video conference from England.

Yet only a couple of weeks ago we had a reason given that the trial was postponed because Goncalo Amaral had got a new lawyer and was given time to prepare the case. Now we have, it was the request of the McCanns. Conflicting stories coming out yet again. I don't think it was reported in any newspapers re Mr Amaral changing lawyers, so which story is true.

What are the McCanns up to now? They are experts at manipulation and misdirection, so they are probably going to pull another trick out of the hat.

I really think if someone intends to haul someone else into court, they should be there in person, it should be a legal requirement. Unless I have misunderstood, it sounds like the McCanns aren't going to be here.

It looks to me, that the McCann are scared to go there.

MORE ON MARINHO E PINTO

Here's a short article placed by Joana Morais on her blog - on the subject of Marinho e Pinto, kindly passed on to me by KL (thanks!):

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Joana Morais has shared some thoughtful comment on the man which I will quote below. She was actually answering a comment made earlier on on her blog which you may also find of interest.

Joana Morais said...[in reply to comment No. 16]: Well said, let me just add some extra info to what you wrote.

It was Marinho e Pinto, the actual head of the Portuguese Lawyer's Order, who wrote the article in the Expresso newspaper, where the first pictures of Leonor Cipriano's bruised eyes were published - at that time those pictures were under judicial secrecy, which raises several questions.

It was also Marinho e Pinto who - in a unprecedented move - demanded on behalf of the Lawyer's Order for himself to be instituted as a 'legal assistant' in the 2009 trial of the 5 PJ officers [Goncalo Amaral and 4 others] accused of allegedly 'torturing' Leonor Cipriano - therefore so he could not be called as a witness over those photos, as was requested by the defence lawyers.

It was also Marinho e Pinto who wrote an article in the Lawyer's Order bulletin in 2009 defending José Socrates, affirming that the anonymous letter that involved the former Prime Minister in the Freeport scandal was forged by the Judiciary Police.

It was Marinho e Pinto's daughter, Barbara, who works in the law offices of Rogério Alves (the McCanns' lawyer) and Jerónimo Martins (the Vice-President of the Lawyer's Order General Council), who defended an alleged victim of 'torture' - a suspect of theft - against 3 PJ officers; where for the second time Marinho e Pinto used the Lawyer's Order as a device to be instituted as a 'legal assistant'. The former President of the Order, António Pires, said at the time: "This is regrettable from an ethical point of view. There may not be a legal incompatibility, but there is a moral incompatibility [it may comply with the letter of the law, but not the spirit].

Curiously, one of the 3 PJ officers was Tavares de Almeida, who was an Inspector in the investigation of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. [Note: He produced the hard-hitting Interim Report on 10 September 2007 into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann].

And finally, in 2010, Marinho e Pinto supported Isabel Duarte (the McCanns' media lawyer) in the elections to the Lawyer's Order Superior Council - Isabel lost the election but he didn't, unfortunately, and was re-elected for the triennium 2011-2013.

Like you, I'm totally convinced there are no innocent coincidences in the McCann case.
