Criminals and cyber bullies to be banned from the web

Post by Daisy on 26.11.11 12:25

Here
we go! Sounds ominous to me. Or is it just coincidence that they announce this
now whilst the Leveson Inquiry is fresh in everyone's minds?

Notice
the wording: "harrassment or anti-social behaviour” What
constitutes harrassment or anti-social behaviour? Who decides? This is a very dangerous road to be going
down. I didn't listen to the Jeremy Vine radio show but I read enough to know
that he & that MysCOW woman were definitely labeling those that phoned in
questioning the official Mccann story as anti-social - telling them to go seek
medical help and belittling them for their honest views and opinions. Is this the
way it’s going to go?

I Imagine the hardcore McCann supporters must
be jumping for joy at this kind of news. Little do these simpletons realise this
new strategy will ultimately shut down their
freedom of speech/expression too. This is just the thin end of the wedge. Just
wait until they deem people that question government 'anti - social' In the end ALL dissenters will be
silenced. My, they really are sleepwalking into an Orwellian nightmare. At
least we'll be able to hold our heads up and tell the grandkids we fought
against it and didn't stand clapping and cheering at our own enslavement.

Criminals
who commit offences online and cyber bullies will be banned from the internet
as part of the Government’s new cyber security strategy, announced today

It calls for police and courts to make more
use of existing “cyber sanctions” to restrict access to the social networks and
instant messaging services in cases of hacking, fraud and online bullying. Sex
offenders and those convicted of harrassment or anti-social behaviour also face
more internet restrictions under the new strategy.

Similar orders have been imposed on those
charged with involvement in a series of cyber attacks by the Anonymous and
LulzSec groups earlier this year, while they await trial.

Cyber sanctions were also used following the
riots this summer. Two teenagers in Dundee
were banned from the web for inciting riots via Facebook.

Officials are now looking into whether
"cyber tag" technology could be used to monitor offenders and report
to authorities if break their bail or sentence conditions by using the
internet.

"The Ministry of Justice and the Home
Office will consider and scope the development of a new way of enforcing these
orders, using ‘cyber-tags’ which are triggered by the offender breaching the
conditions that have been put on their internet use, and which will
automatically inform the police or probation service," cyber security
strategy said.

It added that if the regime is a success
restrictions on internet use could be imposed on "a wider group of
offenders".

Police forces across the country will also
follow the example of the Met’s Police Central e-Crime Unit by recruiting
“cyber specials”; internet experts will be encouraged to volunteer as special
constables to help investigate online crime.

The four-year strategy is also designed to
address cyber espionage and attacks from states such as China and Russia and "patriotic"
hackers.

GCHQ, Britain’s eavesdropping agency, is
to receive around £385m of the total £650m budget to develop its ability to
detect, defend and fight back online. The problem of discovering the true
source of a cyber attack will be among the top priorities for the
Cheltenham-based agency's experts, as well as developing "tactics and
techniques” for online conflict in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence's
new cyber unit.

GCHQ
will also declassify and commercialise
some of its cyber technology to help the private
sector improve its security online, as part of a broader effort to increase
cooperation between government and industry. Other measures with include a new
"hub" for information sharing to allow the security services to share
information on cyber threats with major infrastructure firms such as BT,
Barclays and utilities companies.

“This strategy not only deals with the threat
from terrorists to our national security, but also with the criminals who
threaten our prosperity as well as blight the lives of many ordinary people
through cyber crime,” said David Cameron.

Terrorists are not believed to yet have the
ability to launch damaging cyber attacks against critical infrastructure such
as water and power stations, but they are thought to have discussed such
operations.

I struggle to keep my face straight. A person may only be *banned from the web* if they are locked up in a sealed box.

The McCann are welcome to send a shyster lawyer half-way around the world, to take away my laptop. They would also have to take away my iPhone. Also my Android tablet, the phones and computers of my children and husband. The computers of every single internet café in this country. The computers of my employer. The internet access in my hotel room. Every mobile phone store in the country, and other countries too.

I do not think even the Mosad can do such things. Or perhaps, Mr Gerry is so deluded now, that he really does believe himself to be a god.

I have heard on the news "talking heads" discussing measures to close down bloggers because of their "abuse" of the poor McCann couple.

That is the way that the UK government will move I think, then aim at forums and social networking sites (twitter, Facebook) after.

Freedom of speech is not dead yet but it isn't looking very well at the moment.

I would have thought, your Government would have more important issues to worry them. Such as, no Customes Officers on duty next Wednesday. I am due to fly from Manchester on that day, I agree with the sentiments of the striker but I do not want to be delayed +/- 12 hours.

Which brings us back to Gerry "My daughter's gone missing where's my flipchart" McCann and his 'wider agenda'.

Just what is this wider agenda? Microchipping, Amber Alert, superinjunctions, libel laws, compensation and celebrity status for being criminals, press intrusion compensation, Government protection, Police protection, media protection, Big Brother spying on us, internet censorship.....?

Anything else to add to the list?

I hear what you're saying and no doubt savvy people will always
find a way to get online. But it just depends on how far they're willing
to go to enforce this law? It can only lead to more spying on
individuals. I foresee them using the threat of search warrants and stop
& search measures for people they suspect are using the net
'unlawfully'. Sounds far fetched I know, but everything I witness
happening tells me this is the way we're heading.

They have a willing army of the 'busy body' type (sociopaths!) eagerly volunteering
to spy & report on their fellow citizens; these people want a bit
of power, power over YOU, it makes them feel important. You must all
know this type of person. There's a forum full of em over at JATKY2.

@ Gillyspot Correct. Haven't they already made a good start on that? They've already had numerous blogs shut down, articles deleted, merged facebook groups, even this forum has had to remove dozens of postings, with Tony Bennett up on libel charges. The pace of 'censorship' is picking up speed at an alarming rate that's for sure.

For every blog that is shut down, another one will open. People will not be silenced. It has been tried in other countries, China and Burma, and always people find a way out. Please read my sig, people will always have ideas, it cannot be prevented. I do not think that the McCann learned this fact yet. Although they are doctors, and quite intelligent, they are also very ignorant of some things.

I think we must learn from our mistakes. I know that anything I see, if it might be important, I will save it. I never did that before.

When I open Firefox I get this message and this link https://donate.mozilla.org/page/s/SOPA?source=snippet

Although the McCanns are taking legal action to stop people using freedom of speech (even though Gerry says he strongly believes in it, except if your name is Pat Brown or Goncarlo Amaral), I don't think censorship of the internet can be 'credited' to the McCanns. If that was so then it would leave them in a very dangerous position because people would know it was down to 2 people that they were being censored. I think people might be tempted to take action against them. Also if it ever became law that children had to be microchipped because of the McCanns that would also cause outrage. No way would I willingly have my kids chipped because two doctors neglected their kids til one died because that could endanger our kids even more. I think the McCanns have done enough damage and they should now go away and live off the profits of their dead daughter. I for one am heartily sick of seeing them on the tv and in newspapers ramming their crimes down our throats. Neglect, concealing a cadaver and fraud gets compensation if your the McCanns. Unbelievable. And the worst thing is we are watching this scam and cover up going on right before our eyes and we are treated as imbeciles and told we are vile and need mental help for objecting.

whatever
