this is what PR is all about, what a career to choose...    the IMAGE of the McCanns

REALITY NOT IMPORTANT THEN. NICE WHEN A CHILD HAS VANISHED.

That is what it has always been about.
Carter-Ruck, Clarence Mitchell, the lot who represented Mar Warner and all the rest have been about the McCann's reputation.
Not one of them has lifted a finger to try to find Madeleine or to discover the truth about what happened.
And in charging extortionate fees they have also clearly hindered the search . . .

Carter-Ruck and Mitchell do not care about Madeleine, and never have. it is not their "job".

It's a bit like an estate agent, selling the property is all that matters whatever the true state of the property. I must say going through this topic again was illuminating.

Clarence Mitchell, the McCann’s PR adviser and spokesman, continues to make use of the British government’s services despite having officially resigned from his position as director of the
Media Monitoring Unit*. The accusation comes from a Home Office source who has stated that the outgoing director had called upon his former service to keep a watch not only on several journalists but also on the behaviour of participants in a list of forums and blogs considered to be “highly detrimental to the image of the McCanns and that of the British government”.

Early days - early measures taken. Why monitor forums so soon?

Considering we are six years on we must have done something for the unemployment figures - at least as far a media monitoring is concerned.

The point I was really trying to make is that the moment CM was posted to the F.O. he had no official power to use  the MMU. Yet it was important at that early stage to monitor the forums.
So why should a government department be monitoring Joe Public and make a note of their opinions? Keeping an eye on the press one can understand - it's the eye-in-the-sky looking at  forums and blogs at this very early date when it looked like the McCanns were unassailable. Whilst we're talking about blogs, they should have monitored Gerry's blog. Condescending and spinning and still in the public domain to tell us far more than he ever intended.
But no-one appears to have been keeping an eye on Clarrie who was guarding the McCanns reputation.
As another poster almost said:   Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

I'm all over this topic like a rash, but not the reason for  pulling up this  old topic -  it is useful imo.

The bit about monitoring forums at that early stage is interesting in the light of the recent announcement on prison terms for trolls.
