Are Carter-Ruck the most generous lawyers in the U.K.?

Post  Tony Bennett on Wed Nov 02, 2011 9:16 am

Verbatim from Dr Kate McCann's book, pages 289-290:

“Adam Tudor and his colleagues [at Carter-Ruck] continue to do a vast amount of work for us, without payment, most of it quietly, behind the scenes…”

Carter Ruck working without payment? Is that a pig flying past my window? They would be a laughing stock amongst their peers.

But they MIGHT be working on a conditional fee basis.

Nobody does anything for free. There will be an alternative 'payment' which will benefit both parties

Dr McCann lying? - heaven forbid.

But what is that elegant, useful little phrase? - ah yes - "economical with the truth". - term resurrected by Sir Thomas Armstrong in the 80s.

Lawyer: What is the difference between a misleading impression and a lie?
Armstrong: A lie is a straight untruth.
Lawyer: What is a misleading impression - a sort of bent untruth?
Armstrong: As one person said, it is perhaps being "economical with the truth".

A thread about the generosity of Carter-Ruck has become one about lying.

Possibly because of the oxymoronic nature of that phrase !

Good morning Tony.
