The first of the three people jailed over Baby P's death has been released from prison, according to reports.
Peter 'Baby P' Connelly died after suffering more than 50 injuries
Jason Owen, 39, was serving a six-year sentence for causing or allowing the death of 17-month-old Peter Connelly four years ago.
Sources revealed Owen was released from Wandsworth Prison in southwest London.
His release, just days after the fourth anniversary of Baby Peter's death, comes at the halfway point of his jail term, taking into account the 289 days he spent in custody on remand before he was sentenced.
Owen, from Bromley, Kent, was a lodger at the home of his brother Steven Barker in Tottenham, north London, where Peter died on August 3, 2007.
In May 2009, an Old Bailey judge gave Owen an indeterminate sentence of imprisonment for public protection with a minimum term of three years for his part in the toddler's death.
This meant he could apply for parole after three years but would only be released once the Parole Board was satisfied he no longer posed a risk to the public.
But Owen challenged his sentence at the Court of Appeal and in October 2009 was ordered to serve a fixed six-year jail term instead.
August 3 was the fourth anniversary of Peter's death at the hands of his mother Tracey Connelly, her boyfriend Barker and Owen.
He suffered more than 50 injuries despite being on the at-risk register of Haringey Council in north London and receiving 60 visits from social workers, police and health professionals during the final eight months of his life.
The child's mother, Tracey Connelly, was also jailed over the death
A series of reviews have identified missed opportunities when officials could have saved him if they had acted properly on the warning signs.
Sharon Shoesmith, Haringey's director of children's services at the time of Peter's death, is in line for compensation estimated at up to £1m after Supreme Court judges this week rejected applications to challenge a ruling that she was unfairly sacked following the tragedy.
I just cannot believe this. How is this justice for Baby P?
Let's not forget what these people did to this little boy:
1. Broken back
2. Bleeding around the spine
3. Left ear ripped so that it was coming away from his head
4. Finger nail missing
5. Eight broken ribs
6. Fracture on shinbone
7. Front tooth knocked out, found in stomach
8. Skin missing on nose
9. Skin missing from lips and tongue
10. Severe cuts to head and wounds from dog or human bite
11. Multiple bruises everywhere on body
12. Blackened finger/toenails
This baby was found dead in his bloodstained/soiled cot where he sustained a final punch that killed him. Can you imagine this baby laying in his cot and hearing the footsteps of his killer coming towards his room, laying there, not being able to do anything about it...but wait.
All he wanted was for someone to show him some love. I doubt he even knew what love was.

I don't know if you recall but many thousands of people were outraged by what happened to Baby P and the two girls above organised a 'Justice for Baby P' campaign and went to Downing Street to deliver a petition demanding action on the country's care system. They organised 18 events in various parts of the country and many people joined them in London. They sang Christmas carols and released doves for Baby P.
It would have been these two girls who raised the money to commission Baby P's headstone.
These girls showed more compassion for Baby P than any of his own family ever did.

Something should have been learned from the death of Victoria Climbie in 2000. The children act 2004 did not protect Peter Conolly. What's the point of different services sharing information on vulnerable children if they don't take action?
Social services knew Baby P was being abused but apparently deemed the abuse he had suffered was not enough to take him away permanently.

As long as they "look" as if they are meeting the minimum standards for avoiding getting their backside sued that is all they do and not an iota more.
It goes from the top down. They are very good at reeling off an action that needs to be taken, but then they immediately "forget to take it" or even better "forget they said it".

with shoppers By TOM WELLS
Owen, 39, one of three brutes who caused the death of tortured 17-month-old Peter Connelly, was released earlier this month after two years in prison.
He looked relaxed and fit as he was spotted shopping near his probation hostel at a secret location.
Sadistic Owen was freed earlier this month and is living in the hostel as he "adjusts" to life on the outside.
He appeared not to have a care in the world as he went shopping nearby.
Looking relaxed, slim and fit – and sporting a trendy new haircut and designer stubble – he seemed nothing like the dishevelled, hollow-eyed figure in his police mugshot, taken in 2007.
Passers-by had no idea he was one of the three caged for causing the death of baby Peter, along with the horrifically abused child's mother Tracey and her lover Steven Barker.
But as Owen bought ice cream, a newspaper and some groceries, he displayed several tell-tale signs of his identity.
He showed off his distinctive "angel wings" tattoo on his left arm. And inked on his right forearm was a large crucifix with the grimly ironic slogan: "Only God can judge me."
Owen, also a convicted arsonist, crack addict and National Front member, had hoped he would be given plastic surgery and a new identity on his release from London's Wandsworth jail.
Checking his phone ... Jason OwenBut instead he has been forced to rely on keeping a low profile to avoid being attacked.
Owen wore a white McKenzie polo shirt and jeans for his jaunt – and pulled on sunglasses in bright light as he checked his mobile phone.
Last night Baby P's family said The Sun's pictures "show justice has simply not been done".
A close relative of Peter added: "We're disgusted by his release but there's nothing we can do. How he can get away with such a short sentence is beyond any of us given what he did to Peter."
A source revealed Owen – once a tubby schoolkid nicknamed Fat Boy – had been going for long fitness runs since his release.
The source said: "Jason is obsessed with exercise and keeping his weight down.
"He has been out for several runs, often for up to eight miles."
The Sun can also disclose Owen has been trying to rebuild contact with his estranged wife, the mother of his four children.
The source said: "Jason's wife has been in touch with him even though it emerged during the trial that he had eloped with a 15-year-old girl.
Evil ... Steven Barker and Tracey Connelly"She has told friends she has forgiven him and is prepared to consider a reconciliation. But whether that is possible, who knows?"
Owen was born in 1972 as Jason Barker, the older brother of Baby P's future stepdad Steven, 35.
He changed his surname after moving in with Barker and Tracey Connelly, now 30, at their squalid home in Tottenham, North London.
It was there the three subjected Peter to shocking abuse, leaving him with 50 injuries including a broken back. The tragic youngster finally died in August 2007.
A post mortem revealed he had swallowed a tooth after being punched.
Connelly was jailed for a minimum of five years for causing or allowing Peter's death, with Barker getting a minimum of ten years on the same charge.
The mother could be the next to walk free, possibly in August next year.
Barker has an earliest release date of 2019.
Owen was freed after serving half a six-year sentence for causing or allowing Peter's death – having spent around 300 days in custody on remand before his trial at the Old Bailey.
What is on his face?
It's chocolate. It was smeared on his face to disguise bruises.

It was wrong that he was libelled but I begrudge him the damages.
