Casey Anthony in the Dail Mail

Post by Gillyspot on 11.07.11 20:28

Finally some coverage of Casey Anthony case in uk media but look at this.

'She did not kill her child': Casey Anthony lawyer defends her innocence, as he violently threatens 'stalker' he gave the finger to
Cheney Mason says he 'never for one minute' doubted Casey's innocence
Praises Casey for 'intelligence' and 'strength' saying others under pressure she faced would be 'drooling'
Insists she has right to freedom, saying the U.S. is 'as much her country as anyone else's'
Threatens 'stalker' he gave finger to, saying 'he's lucky he wasn't in the room'

Interesting slant though as is pro Casey in my opinion. Read it here...

Sadly this trial was a shameful illustration of wht is wrong in the US these days. Starting with the jury systems, where most jurors are chosen because they don't have, or can't think of, a decent reason not to serve. As one person wrote: Casey truly was judged by a jury of her peers.
Mason is exactly as all the lawyers jokes depict lawyers. The fun part is going to be that Mason, that female dimwit and most of all Baez, will regret the day they got this sociopath free.
So will the jury. They thought they would be hailed as well thinking heroes, making a lot of money in the talk circuit, now they have to hide.

As far as the family goes they deserved everything they got, and then some.

And Casey: poor misunderstood creature. The porn film business that made her an offer withdrew that because most of their client let them know they will boycot their films!!
Poor woman, she might have to earn money by babysitting!

Another famous case in America (and the U K)

Post by Marian on 12.07.11 11:15

If I may digress, I've been thinking of another case which perhaps does not reflect well on the American justice system and the hysterical U K media. In 1997 a British nanny called Louise Woodward was charged with killing an 8 month old baby while working in Massachusetts. During the trial the press in the U K portrayed her in much the same way as the McCanns - how can anyone possibly think that this wonderful girl could have deliberately harmed a baby. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of second-degree murder which carried a minimum sentence of 15 years. Whether it was the same anywhere else I don't know but the media went absolutely bananas here screaming about this travesty of justice. The judge was I feel compelled to overturn the original verdict and change it to one of involuntary manslaughter and, when an appeal by the prosecution failed, Louise was able to return to England. If I remember rightly, the press did turn against her to some extent afterwards with articles of how she was lazy and had spent more time in bed or ringing her friends in England (on her employers' phone!) than in looking after the two children in her care. It's a funny old world isn't it?

Sorry if I'm going off topic slightly here, but i do think it kind of fits with the thread & didn't know where else to post it.

The following case just goes to show the different extremes and inequality of media reporting & the judicial system.

I'm not making any excuses for this stupid mother, she deserves punishment for the suffering she caused her children; but is she any worse than Kate & Gerry McCann? Or the other so called professionals that claim they left their children alone night after night while they went drinking? No apparent harm came to these children, yet the mother faces jail for wilful neglect. Madeleine McCann is still missing through the wilful neglect of her parents yet... you know the rest.

Mother, 26, left her three children in car for 45 minutes to go shopping as temperature hit 40C

I've tried several times to leave a comment on this article, choosing my words ever so carefully, alas to no avail. To be honest, I'd have been very surprised if they had published any of them - seems anything anti McCann is disallowed from readers on the comments pages of the DM nowadays

Daisy there have been cases where the kids were in much less danger and the mom ended up in jail. It is outrageous that the only "damage" the McCanns suffer is millions of pounds

coming in that is.

The dailymail is such a stupid newspaper. One day they has an article about a subject I am sadly to familiair with: the violence in Mexico.
There were apert mistakes, so I posted a very friendly comment to correct that. To my horror they placed it, but so edited it confirmed everything said in the article and was a far cry of what my post said. Why is still a mystery for me. The only thing I can think of is that they don't want to look stupid. BTW I believe that is the main reason for media and police and politicians still supporting the McCanns.
But it is a scary thought that they want to boost their reliability by warping readers post.
Since then I have barely made any comments again.

Hello lj,
Yes, I hear you. I'm only too aware of the dirty tactics &
censorship of the Daily (hate) Mail. So much for freedom of speech hey?
They tend to steer their core readership ( snobbish middle englanders)
into despising the poor & disadvantaged, whilst excusing the actions
of the middle classes that commit similar crimes.

Hope your familiarity with the violence in Mexico doesn't mean you or yours are in any danger. It's shocking that your comments were distorted in a such a way. Like I said so much for the 'free press'

We have lost several dear friends, 4 weeks ago 2 in one weekend. It is a awful tragedy to see this country go to (and through) hell. It has gone from a country where the smallest event would be reason for the biggest party or get together, but now everyone lock themselves up in the house. Whenever there is an event where an elected official will be, half of the attendants will leave before he/or she arrives, because the chance of a shooting is then 1000% higher.
The kids are home on vacation, so now we spend as much time as possible in the US, but they have too many friends here and want to see them too. Some of them are or have been in the army, those kids go through hell. As one from Amnesty International said: the Mexican drug cartels make Al Quaeda look like kindergarten. The cruelties here are unbelievable.
