A BUSINESSMAN whose firm helped look for Madeleine McCann has failed in a last ditch High Court bid to escape extradition over an alleged £1.3m fraud.

Kevin Halligen is now set to stand trial in the US accused of defrauding a London law firm.

It is claimed he took the money to secure the release of Dutch business executives arrested in the Ivory Coast but instead spent it on a mansion.

The 49-year-old’s company, Oakley International, was employed in 2008 by Allerton-born Kate and Gerry McCann to find their three-year-old daughter, who disappeared in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007.

But after six months, his contract was cancelled by the Find Madeleine Fund after he delivered little to the investigation. (and they didn't bother to sue him) Kevin Halligen extradited. He did NOTHING for the McCann investigation 302873

Halligen, whose firm was based in Washington, was arrested in 2009 after months spent evading police.

He was found staying at the plush Old Bank hotel in Oxfordshire, where he was known under a number of aliases.

Kevin Halligen extradited. He did NOTHING for the McCann investigation Empty Kevin Halligen's appeal against extradition FAILS

Post by Tony Bennett 22.06.11 0:33

Halligen and Kennedy were mates
Bri said: "I'll pay you good rates"
But when Kev was abroad
He committed a fraud
Now he's on his way back to the States.

For those either too busy or lazy to read the entire link below, the gist of it is:

* On 22 December 2010 the Secretary of State ordered Kevin Halligen to be extradited to the United States

* There is a very strict 14-day time limit for appealing to the High Court against such an order

* Halligen's Solicitors filed his appeal on 6 January 2011, two days late

* On 19 April 2011 the Court, in the persons of Mr Justice Stadlen and Lord Justice Laws, met to consider the prelimnary point as to whether they had jurisdiction to hear Halligen's appeal at all - because his Solicitors had failed to meet the 14-day deadline

* Today (21 June) Mr Justice Stadlen and Lord Justice Laws decided they did NOT have jurisdiction to hear Halligen's appeal

* Therefore the Secretary of State's extradition order stands.

+++++++++

On the face of it, that should mean that Halligen is whisked out of Belmarsh High Security Prison in south-east London and leaves on the next 'plane to the U.S.A. It is possible however that there could be an appeal to the Court of Appeal and even to the Supreme Court by Halligen's Solicitors.

A major question we need to ask is why, after Halligen was arrested in October 2009, it took over 14 months for the Secretary of State to order his extradition.

And of course for us here on this forum, an even more important question arises: Why did the McCann Team - the McCanns, Brian Kennedy, Clarence Mitchell and their associates - appoint Halligen in the first place?

Why did they pay him a reputed £300,000 or even £500,000?

And what did he do for them?

Not to the investigation, perhaps,. But what did he contribte to their overall strategy ?
He enabled Mitchell to spout off about how they were having to spend large amounts on private detectives, thus fraudulently persuading the public to continue donating to the "Fund"
He enabled the Team to keep pretending that there was an investigation,
And thus he enabled a long term diversion, ensuring that the Investigative press did not start asking questions.
(Quite apart from discovering whether he was part of a money laundering operation, to an account in the USA, or back to one of their principle private donors, as has been sugggested in other places)
It is telling that Mitchell has never publicly come out against Halligen, so far as I know, nor that the Fund or its trustees have taken any action against him for the reurn of any money.
Inaction can speak louder than words.

When the FBI follow Halligen's paper trail, they would surely need to request evidence of where every deposit into is account has come from. The date, the amounts and which bank accounts. Let's hope it matches up exactly with what the McCann's fund said they did. Kevin Halligen extradited. He did NOTHING for the McCann investigation 742129

Don't forget the 40 Cuddle Cats handed out to the (allegedly) 40 detectives employed by Metodo 3 to come up with false 'sightings' of Madeleine search for Madeleine McCann.

Here's a paragraph from our forthcoming in-depth article on 'Brian Kennedy and Madeleine McCann':

QUOTE

On 28 November the Daily Mail reported that Método 3 “has had between 30 and 35 detectives working on the case in Britain, France, Spain, Portugal and Morocco since September”, while on 25 January 2008 the same paper inflated that number to ‘‘40 investigators working on the case in Spain and Portugal". The fact that investigators were being employed in Portugal was contrary to Portuguese law, which I understand prohibits private investigations running alongside any official investigation. Clarence Mitchell claimed that the new head of the Portuguese Police investigation, Alipio Ribeiro, ‘is turning a blind eye to the activities of Método 3’. The later Mail report made the fascinating claim that each of Método 3’s 40 investigators had been given a replica of the McCanns’ pink soft toy, ‘Cuddle Cat’, which, the Mail said, the investigators ‘were encouraged to squeeze every time they felt demotivated at the size of their task’.
