At last a critical review of the Madeleine book

Post by pauline on 21.06.11 15:29

Today I picked up a local free paper in a café in Dublin containing a review of Kate’s book headed 'Was Madeleine abducted.'

I hope this paper Town and Village has not already received a letter from Carter Ruck complaining about the headline!

The journalist has clearly checked the UK companies office and raises some interesting points I have not seen before. The solicitors who set up the limited company could not have received instructions to act for the McCanns until May 14th yet had the company set up the next day May 15th. The solicitors had drafted the documents for this unusual company (ie not a standard trading company), had them agreed by their clients the McCanns in Portugal, obtained a ruling from the Charity Commission that charity status could not apply with the company documents drafted as they were - all this done in a minimum of 24 hours. Hard working solicitors!

Kate says the company 'was set up with great care and due diligence by experts in the field.' Yet according to the information she provides in the book, the solicitors had 24 hours at the most to organise everything including incorporation.

The review also draws attention to the discrepancy between Kate's statement that 'everyone agreed that despite the costs involved it (the company) must be run to the highest standards of transparency' - and what was filed in the Companies Office.

The journalist says the first set of accounts filed (to March 2008) contained expenditure detail which is not a statutory requirement but which is good practice, but that the two subsequent years accounts filed only complied with the statutory filing requirements which are anything but onerous - so there was in effect none of the 'transparency' to which Kate referred. I wonder why.

The review ends by listing relevant websites including this one.

The paper has apparently a circulation of about 10,000 and is a free paper distributed in South East. It can be read online - go to www.townandvillage.ie and click download pdf, then click on the June 2011 issue. The book review is on p.17.

Hopefully this is the start of some journalists actually doing their job!

I have noticed the McCanns use transparency when they want to muddy the waters.

big grin

ETA:
back being serious: another important step I think.

The scary part of examining the fund, the photos etc is that if that all is ture there is only one conclusion possible: premeditation. sad

I'll sit back and wait for all the transparent explanantions why I am wrong.......... bomb

not like the Express review.

Apart from calling her "Late" Mccann which makes me smile it is just a simpering piece written to praise her and not remotely interested in the truth or questioning what she has written.

"vivid recall and attention to detail is what gives the book the reality and depth" - What about the broken shutters Kate, and were the doors locked or not?

Only one decent line and that is out of context below.

"............ it is a must-read because someone out there knows something" - That'll be you Kate and you didnt' have to read it.

Well done Enid O'Dowd she has obviously researched her article thoroughly and amazingly even lists "relevant websites" clapping

www.madeleinefoundation.ie
www.jillhavern.ie
www.joana-morais.blogspot.com
(includes Portuguese police files)
www.findmadeleine.com
www.mccannfiles.com
www.truthformadeleine.com

Finally a journo prepared to stick her head up above the parapet. Shame she will be sued shortly.

I think quite a few journalists have done some delving, but are holding back what they have. Can anyone remember the Channel 4 interview where it was said that the were investigating the fund.

Great to have someone who is not scared to say what they think in relation
to the Mccanns and someone who is willing to question the abduction story.

Congratulations to Enid O'Dowd for this article. Let's hope more journalists follow her example.
The fear of libel action is probably at the back of most editors' minds, but even so I feel a change in the air. Let's hope we're going to see some serious and independent investigative journalism on ALL aspects of this case, including who is protecting the McCanns and why.

But lets also hope that the Yorkshire Police aren't as weak as Leics Police and actually carry out a full UNBIASED investigation.

An uncritical review

Post by Guest on 22.06.11 14:29

Yes this makes a change from many of the sycophantic reviews discussed previously - you don't actually need a sick bucket to get through this one!

Review in Irish paper

Post by Marian on 23.06.11 14:32

It sounds as if the writer may have started out being sympathetic to the McCanns but then realised that there were many things that just did not add up. The setting up of the limited company in record time is a problem for me too, along with the website. Did I hear correctly that the latter cost over £30,000.00 to set up? Totally incredible bearing in mind that Madeleine could have been found any day, rendering both the company and the website redundant.
