Kate McCann's contract with Transworld includes an option for making a film of the book
A McCann-sceptic within Transworld has revealed that the contract signed between Transworld and Dr Kate McCann includes binding contractual conditions regarding an option for making a film of the book - who has the rights in any film and how any profits will be split etc.
There is nothing exceptional about this; I am told that it's a standard term of many Transworld books - and other companies have similar contrtactual terms covering who-gets-what from any film.

Point 15 from The Madeleine Foundation's leaflet on Clarence Mitchell (on our website):
15. Claiming it would be ‘hugely entertaining’ to devise a cast list for a proposed film about Madeleine going missing
On 7 January 2008 it was widely reported in the media that the McCanns and their advisers were in talks with media and film moguls IMG, who made the film ‘Touching the Void’, about a possible film about Madeleine’s disappearance. Clarence Mitchell was asked whether Gerry and Kate would play themselves in any film or if their roles would be played by celebrity actors. He said: “It may be hugely entertaining and a bit of fun to speculate on a cast list, but we are a million miles away from that sort of thing”.

“It may be hugely entertaining and a bit of fun to speculate on a cast list, but we are a million miles away from that sort of thing”.
You see now, despite being the McCann-sceptic that I am, I always read and interpreted that sentence as meaning “It may be hugely entertaining and a bit of fun for you lot (meaning the assembled press pack) to speculate on a cast list, but we are a million miles away from that sort of thing”. (In other words such considerations are beneath us and the last thing on our mind).

In defence of Clarence - now there's a first
I do agree with the Shelfstacker that Clarence's "bit of fun" remark could well have been aimed at the press pack. Let's wait and see if the film materialises - subject to Madeleine being found of course - and if the McCanns start to search (that will be a first for them) for actors to appear in it.

If they ever were to make a film, they would have to re-enact the events of 3rd.
Which means they would have to write yet another script. The one in the book, and the various onesin the statements, just don't work.

Film fiction
I have visions of something similar to the made for TV movies about the life and particularly the death of Diana, Princess of Wales. Actors who appear by permission of the Forestry Commission and a toe-curling script which bears little or no resemblance to any known facts; then again, in both the cases of Madeleine and Diana, provable facts are in very short supply. It is likely to be "must see" viewing but for all the wrong reasons.
